4 deputies.
FOUR didn't go in. They hid behind their cars.
Which is why we might need to start arming teachers (voluntary and with training and certification).

Don't get me wrong, I think the suggestion of arming teachers to use as school guards is quite insane, and for a variety of very good reasons...

I think - at this point - it is a better option than waiting for emergency personnel to arrive (5 to 8 minutes on average). Especially if "we" are now faced with cowardly cops/deputies hiding behind their cars during.

I recently saw, on "Tucker Carlson Tonight", report of a "UFO" at Chicago's O'Hare Airport (within the year?). People saw this object shoot upwards (after it'd appeared - hovering - close to the ground/landing field) at a high rate of speed, and punch a hole through the clouds above.
But in this age of "everyone's got a smartphone" I'm wondering at the lack of images. Not saying it didn't happen, btw. It peaked my interest. :^)

Short answer: microbes are single-cell organisms. Bacteria are a specific type. Archaea are not bacteria, they're older and more primitive. Eukaryota (Eukaryotic cells) are different again; all multi-cellular organisms on Earth are made of eukaryotic cells, but some eukaryotic organisms are still single cell. For example, yeast is a eukaryote, but because they are single-cell organisms they are microbes.

From a childless person.
This is only the 2nd time in my adult life that I've dared to give advice to parents (obviously I'm not qualified). I do care about your children.
The recent school shooting in Florida, all the tragic facts around it (shooter's well-documented long history of violence and trouble), and now there's news that 4 Broward County deputies were HIDING behind their cars while the shooter was inside and actively killing ( https://nypost.com/2018/02/23/four-sher … -shooting/ )
Get your kids in private schools or do home schooling if you're able.
I would. I'd be working extra hours and cutting corners like mad to keep my kids out of today's public schools.

The point being in my opinion that it is rather normal for humans to sink to that level. The consequence ultimately is for humans to loose mental abilities, since they use the hive mind and verbal skills to enslave and destroy people with greater minds. The motive is to loot. Pure and simple.

Yes, I could Google, but all the scientific jargon (I'm a layperson)...
I should know, but frankly it seems I might not. In writing up a pro-Mars piece (mini-blogger), I realized I'd used the word "bacterial" instead of "microbial" ... and later questioned it.
So I'm asking while admitting possible unforgivable ignorance. :-p But it does seem they're used interchangeably.

Times are difficult all around. Long-time online friends have become withdrawn. Lots of people are depressed or afraid (I'm sometimes both!).
I hope you'll stay and contribute.
I currently have a really hectic work schedule, but I'll try and contribute more often. Now back to (what else?) work... :-)

I had "Hollywood" in mind when seeing the "fiery asteroid crash" (more like a hard bumping into each other) on that show but thought I'd ask (US is so saturated with/by Hollywood...gets exasperating).
[asteroid that killed the dinosaurs] Geologists say there are streaks of debris all along North America.
I haven't actually checked (Google) but the many "kettle lakes" in Minnesota come to mind. Will do that now.

Will keep searching (btw - Quebec seems a favored asteroid target). :-]

How The Universe Works often has depictions of planets colliding with fiery impacts.
Now I'm seeing simulations of asteroids colliding, with flashes of fire.
Would colliding asteroids produce a flash of fire? If yes, why? Friction?

Politics has devolved into personal attacks because one side has run out of actual arguments. If they had any arguments, then they would make their arguments and begin piling on evidence. Since they never had any arguments to make, other than their party of choice lost and they're upset about that, they've started in with personal attacks.
The liberal news media has nothing of value to share with the American people. They will say or do anything to get attention now because they want other people to join them in their temper tantrum. They've no objectivity left nor valuable service to provide. It's just cheerleading and fit pitching. I miss the days when our mainstream news media (liberal or conservative) could actually critique the activities of a politician and ask questions that mattered. I haven't seen that since I was a kid.

The MSM carries on and on as if Trump staged a coup with vast military might and forced himself into the White House.
He won the Electoral College fair and square.
I've been (past tense) shocked at how vitriolic the DNC is because they nominated Hillary instead of Bernie. They'd have this nation thrown into an actual blood-letting civil war over it.

There's quite a bit of imperfection in the human condition, but that's part of what makes life interesting. Life would be boring as hell without the diversity and constant changes.
That brings me to my final point, which is that people need to learn to get over themselves for their own good. If you believe you know anything at all simply because you saw or heard something on TV, you're going to have MAJOR issues in life.

Thanks for sharing about your family life. I'll soon be reading Vietnamese poetry (translated of course). To the Chinese of old, northern Vietnam was "Nam Viet" - Realm of the Red Crow / Vermilion Bird / Fire God ( "The Vermilion Bird" by Edward H. Schaefer - fascinating book).
I've recently seen one of the worst (flabberghasting) examples of TDS: Joe Scarborough (?) asked Trump if he can read.
Meanwhile MSM complains and complains about him Tweeting.
Obviously if he can compose Tweets he can read.
Grown, highly educated adults...asking brazenly stupid questions like that.

I've never seen such a bizarre obsession over one man. People who have never met him, spoken to him, or know the first thing about him, apart from their blatantly obvious burning hatred for him, seem to have lost their ability to separate what goes on in their minds from reality. It's like he has his own stalker fan club full of people who hate him.

Read about this lady only last evening.
I've been reading Romantic poets; currently Percy Bysshe Shelley. He and wife Mary (author of "Frankenstein") spent the summer of 1816 with Lord Byron in Geneva (where Mary wrote "Frankenstein"). That led me to reading (peripherally, at this point) some biographical information about Lord Byron (will delve into his poetry soon), which naturally led onto family history and his genius daughter:

If I may ask an unrelated to current discussion question (not wishing to start a new thread):
There are reports of people sickened/dying of "ghost disease" (radiation poisoning) in North Korea, due to Kim's nuclear ambitions/tests.
What are the (hopefully GOOD) chances Mr. Kim might also die of radiation poisoning? He might be away from the actual test sites but it's a small country.
It'd be wonderful if he kills himself in the process. But such a terrible pity about everyone else he's victimized.
