#29976 Re: Human missions » Moon to Mars Mission - The posible Man and Unmaned Mission » 2004-09-10 08:26:40

The first area is preliminary concepts for human lunar exploration. The second category consists of preliminary concepts for the crew exploration vehicle and human lunar exploration.

So Nasa has judge some proposals as only lunar capable ands some compamies capable of both.

Here is how Nasa is paying for the seed money for the starting of the CEV project. Robbing peter to pay paul. But what will we get for it in return just more delay or at least 6 months with another possible.

Fusion or Fision which is the type of explosion we are seeing from this star and its companion. Or is this something new?

Scientists Glimpse Exotic Matter In A Neutron Star
http://www.spacedaily.com/news/stellar- … y-04k.html

Snipet:
Scientists have obtained their best measurement yet of the size and contents of a neutron star, an ultra-dense object containing the strangest and rarest matter in the universe. The measurement may lead to a better understanding of nature's building blocks - protons, neutrons and their constituent quarks - as they are compressed inside the neutron star to a density trillions of times greater than on Earth.

Gas from its companion star crashes onto the surface of the neutron star close to the speed of light, creating thermonuclear bursts of X-rays that last from one to two minutes and can occur several times an hour.

I hope they win and are sucessful (snicker. snicker) for Nasa needs a good old fashion kick in the pants to get them moving. Also the big rocket makers in Boeing and Lockheed better pay attention this month for the succesful runs from the SpaceShipOne for they may be out of a job sooner than they think for building Nasa's Next CEV.

One can have wishful thinking too...

#29985 Re: Human missions » Space Initive Launch Vehicle » 2004-09-10 06:34:31

Either or a half dozen of gubbered combinations and along with many clean slate designs for either, neither or both craft combinations but we still have none.

Why is that?

when the ones that most likely will be selected are the same ones in use today in Lockheed and Boeing. It is not in there best interest to have already done the actual work for they have no garanteed money though contracts so they will not do it.
Yes we recently gave them and others a little seed money to scratch a pen or pencil to paper or even to use the most advanced cad system to come up with the all purpose dream vehicle for the CEV or constellation project.
we have already been though numerous studies and concept cycles in the past and some are still on going. Not to mention 6 months followed by a possible 6 more. When will the cycle end?.....

Halobacterium appears to be a master of the complex art of DNA repair. "We have completely fragmented their DNA. I mean we have completely destroyed it by bombarding it with [radiation]. And they can reassemble their entire chromosome and put it back into working order within several hours," says Adrienne Kish, member of the research group studying Halobacterium at the University of Maryland.

#29987 Re: Terraformation » High pressure 'terraforming' of Venus - trimix atmosphere and cooling » 2004-09-10 05:47:28

The system does not need to be complex or of large size but needs to run continuous. Remember we only need to start the change to happen after that it will begin to snow ball and self regulate downward in temperature as the atmospheric C02 is removed targeting what will make a change for gas collection and returning what will accelerate further change to occur.

In addition if steady cooling and gasses liquification system is implemented you will have all the oxygen and hydrogen as a bonus for when we do arrive to study and to explore our nearest neighbor.

#29988 Re: Science, Technology, and Astronomy » ISS cutbacks » 2004-09-09 21:16:08

Is this the effect of 2 cash strapped programs lead nations or something else. Oxygen Supplies Tight on ISS again this makes the second time this year that the crew is on the edge of needing to leave the station if anything should happen to the resupply ship if the unit is not fixable.

"Update on Elektron:  The Russian oxygen (O2) generator is still off.   [The crew performed limited troubleshooting this morning for the ground to acquire diagnostic telemetry.  The problem this time is apparently not with bubbles in the BZh Fluid Unit but with the unit's oxygen & hydrogen gas analyzer, which is a failure mode not seen before.  With Elektron off, ISS will reach the lower O2 limit in the cabin air in 7 days.  Beyond that, there is 62 lbs (28 kg) of O2 in Progress 15P, enough for 16 days.  There are also 84 SFOG (solid-fuel oxygen generator) "candles" on board, which would supply another 42 days' worth of O2.  In short, total O2 margin is well above and beyond what is needed to make it to the next resupply date (Progress 16, on 11/26) and maintain redlines.]"

here is a link into news from their most recent attempts.
