You sure? I only saw him link in the last post, and it was kind of ontopic but questionable... I hesitated to remove the link myself
Did he post links in the other two posts too?
If not, maybe it was just a case of bad judgement...
OTOH, If he did post spam on the other posts , burn banhammer baby burn
a records breaking duststorm might mean the end of the rovers soon...
Very sad to see NIAC go...
Indeed, unique.
I think ESA has something similar, IIRC, but not of this scope at all.
If you're on a Mac, definitely Graphicconvertor
otherwise try XnView for a plethora of other platforms
both might be a bit overkill if all you want to do is slideshows but the programs are worth checking out in themselves, very handy stuff
 I cried victory a tad too early...
Yesterday I received news from my mentor that -much to his chagrin- an external jury considered my thesis too ecyclopedic, so I've got to rework it and present it again in September.
combining a full time job and moving houses in that timeframe with rewriting a thesis, Aaaargh!
Oh well....
Sure does
Yay, I'm 37 and finally finished my studies!
Yesterday I (successfully) defended my work for a jury and now I'm free!
(Oh, wait one I already have a job... So no holiday)
What an exciting day, I can finally call myself Master restorator/conservator of visual media, they threw a little party at my job at the university library of Ghent and I just had a whole day scanning in a most amazing book, back from the year 1121(!), the first ever illustrated encyclopedia in the world, (Liber Floridus) complete with dragons and a 'world map' that only shows Europe. I got a bit nervous when I heard it was estimated to be worth well over 5 million Euros though...
Coincidentally lots of other phpbbs es seem to be having bumper numbers of people online too these days, maybe it's lots of spambots visiting? :?
Another note, I realize the "New Mars Wiki" link is not there anymore. I'm working on that.
You're still working on that or has it become impossible to add the link there?
it is true, the project is in big trouble. only one sat launched, and deadlines slipping etc.
for example this BBC writeup:
Hi Fledi, long time no see
Heehee!
(Imagines the exo-biologist getting huuge fits over this.)
Hmmm edibility... How big are the chances they have the same aminoacid structure compared to human life, to begin with?
not again...
sigh... the "movement" is simply before and after the placement of the gammaray test device that did its thing.
oh no!
What 'fun' did I miss?
Dear Sir,
I find your ideas intriguing and want to subscribe to your newsletter
you sure are a piece of work, Tom.
one single misadressed comment was responsible for a cascade of bad things happening....

According to a preliminary report from the Mars Global Surveyor operations review board, the problems with the spacecraft began in June, when a command that oriented the spacecraft's main communications antenna was sent to the wrong address. The mistake caused a problem with the positioning of the solar power panels.
The problems came to a head Nov. 2, when the spacecraft detected the positioning error and tried to go into a safe, or contingency, mode.
That exposed one of the batteries to direct sunlight, causing it to overheat.
Software on the spacecraft interpreted the overheating as an overcharged battery and shut down the charging system. As a result, the batteries drained within 12 hours, resulting in a loss of communications with Earth.
The review panel found that the management team followed procedures in dealing with the problem but that the procedures "were inadequate to catch the errors that occurred."
The review also said the spacecraft's onboard fault protection system failed to respond to the errors. Instead of protecting the spacecraft, the programmed response made it worse.
Don't feel bad about it. Real Life is a bitch
No, it is the MER missions, combination of real footage and Dan Maas CGI stuff, with the actual ground control 'soundtrack' etc.
We should be able to build an atmosphere without much problem. Then, we could send half our population there," said Physical Research Laboratory council chairman and former Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) chief Prof U R Rao on Monday.
yeah sure.
I want some of the stuff he's smoking
Bahai does feature in it, but a lot of other religions too. It really doesn't bother me, the novel is good enough on other sides (lots of *very* clever hardware ideas, for instance)
I'm secular, and it doesn't bother me at all.
OTOH, before this novel I'd never even heard of Bahai, so I thought it was even intersting to read some stuff about it.
so
Is this novel a method of encouraging the public awareness of the bahai faith?
yes, in fact, I guess. But not overly.
You can find the original paper from where the graps originate (short version) here: http://www.anenglishmanscastle.com/archives/003818.html (it's a .pdf)
interesting.
No need to become confrontational, I was just asking a question. Thanks for the answer.
We have records of Co2 going back to the 1860 or 1850 time period and they show increased and decreases of the Co2 over that time period. Matter of fact, there a period in 1880 where the Co2 was a lot higher than it is right now. Even back in the 1930 or so there were higher level of Co2 than it is right now.,
care to back that up with a reputable source? All graphs I've seen show quite a different picture.
