Orginally the thread was created to track what nations were had started rocket developement and projects that would allow for a manned mission from there efforts.

So is this the near term future for the US while we wait for the orion?

Re: Space fairing Nations - The ever changing view

Why can't NASA just construct a small three person rocket that could be launched on boosters we already have for the 5 year gap?  One that just has one room with seating for three people and the control panel. Just for ferrying crew up and down from the ISS.

Surely it doesn't take that long to dock with the ISS from launch?

Re: Space fairing Nations - The ever changing view

Nasa has no off the shelf capsule for a crew taxi and then there is the safety man rating issue which is why Nasa has gone with the Ares I.
Nasa does have some contracts for the taxi service on IIRC 15 flights to the ISS but it can only be one at a time. I think there were also some progress cargo vehicles in that mix as well.

NASA doesn't have the money to develop yet another crew launch system - no matter how simple - it would delay exploration even more.

Re: Space fairing Nations - The ever changing view

These other countries that say, sure we're going to the moon in 10 yearsand probably start a base there even though we haven't put a man into orbit yet are ridiculious.

Just like the American who said 'we're going to be at the Moon before this decade is out' was ridiculous.

Re: Space fairing Nations - The ever changing view

I was surprised to see the thread had made it back after the crash.

Earthly politicians seek roadmap for space exploration

Seeking to boldly go where few politicians have gone before, more than 30 space-faring nations gathered Thursday to map out ways to pool mankind's efforts to explore the stars.

"The question facing us today is whether we can muster the courage and political will to advance space exploration and ensure that cooperation continues to trump competition."

Countries such as Brazil, China, Japan, India and Russia have all sent delegations to the first ever such ministerial-level meeting focusing on space exploration -- with participants listening to simultaneous translations through headsets (though no Klingon language was offered).

Re: Space fairing Nations - The ever changing view

Many say the DPRK or North Korea space program is also linked for military purpose, the Kwang-myong-song-II, a satellite was already launched by North Korea on April 5, 2009. Prior to the launch, concern was raised by other nations, particularly the United States, South Korea and Japan, that the launch would test technology that could be used in the future to launch an intercontinental ballistic missile. The name of the satellite was richly symbolic for North Korean nationalism and the Kim family cult. The Kwang-myong-song III or Gwangmyeongseong-3 and Kwangmyongsong-4 were launched in 2012 and 2016, also timed to celebrate the 74th birthday of the late leader Kim Jong-il.

The old North Korea Committee of Space Technology was the agency for the country's space program. This North Korea agency was terminated and succeeded by the National Aerospace Development Administration. Most of what is public on North Korea's military seems to be publications from other military media or speculation, it seems to be a combination of guess work from Japan, France, Russia media, Chinese, British, US media as very little information on North Kroea is publicly available. Everything is highly controlled by the Communist State and the leader is sometimes seen as a God-Person or type of Emperor diety, in November 2020, no mobile phones could dial into or out of the country, and there was no outside Internet connection. The  'Bright Star-4 or Lodestar-4' satellite launch happened after North Korea conducted a nuclear test on 6 January and as the United Nations Security Council was deciding on sanctions to be placed on the country following the nuclear test. ""China to openly select sci-tech projects for space station cargo craft"
http://www.news.cn/english/2021-11/26/c_1310334573.htm
China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) recently released an announcement to openly select projects of sci-tech experiments and applications to board the country's Tianzhou cargo spacecraft from society.
The project application is open for government organizations, research institutions, educational institutions, enterprises and industry groups, said the CMSA.

"China’s space programme will go nuclear to power future missions to the Moon and Mars"
https://www.scmp.com/news/china/science … e-missions
China is developing a powerful nuclear reactor for its moon and Mars missions, according to researchers involved in the project.
The reactor can generate one megawatt of electric power, 100 times more powerful than a similar device Nasa plans to put on the surface of the moon by 2030.
The project was launched with funding from the central government in 2019. Although technical details and the launch date were not revealed, the engineering design of a prototype machine was completed recently and some critical components have been built, two scientists who took part in the project confirmed to the South China Morning Post this week

N° 6–2022: ESA statement regarding cooperation with Russia following a meeting with Member States on 28 February 2022

https://www.esa.int/Newsroom/Press_Rele … ruary_2022

28 February 2022

We deplore the human casualties and tragic consequences of the war in Ukraine. We are giving absolute priority to taking proper decisions, not only for the sake of our workforce involved in the programmes, but in full respect of our European values, which have always fundamentally shaped our approach to international cooperation.

ESA is an intergovernmental organisation governed by its 22 Member States and we have built up a strong network of international cooperation over the past decades, which serves the European and global space community through its very successful programmes.

We are fully implementing sanctions imposed on Russia by our Member States. We are assessing the consequences on each of our ongoing programmes conducted in cooperation with the Russian state space agency Roscosmos and align our decisions to the decisions of our Member States in close coordination with industrial and international partners (in particular with NASA on the International Space Station).

Regarding the Soyuz launch campaign from Europe’s Spaceport in Kourou, we take note of the Roscosmos decision to withdraw its workforce from Kourou. We will consequently assess for each European institutional payload under our responsibility the appropriate launch service based notably on launch systems currently in operation and the upcoming Vega-C and Ariane 6 launchers.

Regarding the ExoMars programme continuation, the sanctions and the wider context make a launch in 2022 very unlikely. ESA’s Director General will analyse all the options and prepare a formal decision on the way forward by ESA Member States.

ESA continues to monitor the situation in close contact with its Members States.

Race is on for China's first domestic satellite listed firm

https://www.spacedaily.com/reports/Race … m_999.html

Behind the IPO wave of Chinese aerospace-related startups is the huge transformation of the country's commercial aerospace industry, which quickly turned from scratch to mastering manufacturing and innovative capabilities over the past five years, industry experts said.

China's commercial aerospace industry, which mainly focuses on businesses related to satellite broadband internet and low-cost carrier rockets, is becoming the latest gold mine for private companies and a fresh engine driving global economic growth.

Morgan Stanley estimates that the global space industry could generate revenue of $1.1 trillion or more by 2040, up from $350 billion in 2021. The consultancy also said that the most significant short and medium-term opportunities will come from the satellite broadband internet industry.
