Sort of what I had in mine but instead of a commonwealth it would be a fasict state. Any ways the colony would be located on the moons surfaces. For example Satern moon Mimas is small and has low gravity, stripmines would gather ices. A process plant would prepare the micro comets, when ready rail lanchs that run the lenght of the moon 200 miles would speedy up the object for escape velocity from Satern. It like magtrain tracts but the end part lanchs the comets straight off the moon. In my plan since the micro comets are so small they just hit mars straight on and burn up causing no damage. This also avoides airobraking comets into orbit because once their in orbit around mars they turn into comets with their much needed vapor evaporing away into space.
Also my colonys are on the outer planets moons not the asteroid belt because most of them are rocky or metalic the ice one are out by the gas gaints. The colonys could be on the surface of the larger ones smaller moons would need orbiting ring colony so that the people have enough gravity.
     Also terraforming of jupitor two large outer moons is possible. N2 could be obtained locally and there is plenty of oxygen in the water ices.
When you want to make a colony the best source of gases and ices is the outer solar system, the best source of metals is the asteroid belt. Colonys in the main belt mine metal and eport to the outer solar system and import ices and gasa form the outer planets. I think that would be a good model for a economy in outerspace.

Neat idea of using coal dust to darken mars but the heavy left cost form earth make it costly. Unless a space elevtor is made on earth the only known source of coal. Carbon metors would be a bettor source of carbon dust. I think that small impactors aimed at the poles would be better. The impact would stir up dust that would cover the white poles making them darker and warm up. This process could be repated every winter to cover up the new frost that forms.
My idea for adding N2 to mars is to use small ice impactors that we make are selves instead of diverting large comets to hit mars. In a sense create micro comets out of ices form outer solar system moons planets and minor bodys. For example Satern has many small ice moon low in gravity like Dione. I am sure that the ice surface have a mixture of amonia and water and many other substances. The NH3 could be mined by heating the ice up collecting the vapors and condesing them in a separtor the molecules of varies weight seperate out in cynder tank and can be collected. They use this process in oil refiners, and gas mine that seperate out O2 and N2 and traces gases here on earth.
The NH3 than can be truned into a large ball of ice by freezing it again, then covered with a protective layer of water ice. The object be square 1000 ft by 1000 ft sq about the size of a house. Thin a rail guns bult on the moon surface could easly lanch the micro comets of the moon low gravity towards Mars. Thrustors could be placed on the comet for crouse changes, all the speed of esacape velocity comes form the mass driver rail guns from the moon powered by reactors so the mass of the object is not wasted as rocket fuel. Given the low mass the micro comet will easy burn up in mars atmosphere, second the small moons have low gravity so lanching objet off them is easy. Thrid Satern has many small ice moon all which have NH3 mixed in, so many comets producing factorys could be set up on dozens of moons all throwning thousands of microcomets a day at mars. Satern, Neptune, and Uranus all have small ice moons pert for mining and lanching of NH3 microcomets. A hunderd moons being mined for NH3 could have hundered of micro comets hiting mars daily once set up. In a few years a mass equal to a large comet could easly reach mars. Also Pluto is a ggod place too for ices. Also Many of the Gas gaint and sub gaint have coulds of CH3, NH3, and other stuff that could be collected and sent to mars. N2 not realy a problem given the huge sources right door in the outer planets. My way also does not have huge comets hitting mars so the people if there will be safe, setting up these fatories in the out planets moons will encourage colonys to develop  in the outer solar system. A colony on Triton or Dione could become very rich exporting ices, and could import metal from mars and the astorde belt. I think that could be a very good economy for outer planets.

Many years ago 1998 or so people in phoenix and many places in the southwest saw strange lights in the sky from what looked like a big UFO. I have all wise thought that the airforce has gaint stealth blimps that it uses for spying. What better way to test it then to fly it over large cities. I have hread that blimps are coming back into their own now. Gaint stealth blimps are the perfect spy plate froms, the are cheaper than planes and stallites, and more stable. One could hover for days above a city and spy on the people and release contrials to gas the people.

Yo Bobl I agree with you nukes kick ass! I alwise disliked the keep mars red people because they are scared that some bacteria deep inside mars will get hurt. Boo Hoo! Nothing wrong with a little dose of rads. Fyi that gas that melts or sublimes from the heat of a nuke it self would not be radioactive rather the small particals released from the nuke would ba carried as dust. Most of would settle out over a wide area. Only ground zero would stay a little radioactive for a short while. The co2 gas and water vapour would be just fine since it self would not carry radioactive dust with it.

Weather in my home state of Arizona has been greet this winter. Many records for rain fall, average low temps, and above average snow fall in many areas. In Phoenix at sky harbor airport they recorded 5 in. since January 1st, and over 8 in. since Oct 1 st for are rainy season so far. At my home my rain gages filled up to over 6.5 in since Jan. 1 st plus the four from  Oct-Dec gives me 10.5 in. Yearly average is 7-8 in, but I count season totals. Average winter oct-apirl 3.5-4 in summer rains 3-4 in total 7-8 in a year. Over parts of the valley that were up slope just a thousand feet in elevation got almost twice as much rain then the low spot of the valley sky habor. Cave Creek got 11.5 in since Jan 1st, Crown King 25 inches, and the san fransico mountains over 90 inches in water from snow fall this winter of about 1000 inches depth. Some that melted so the snow not pile too high.
All this rain and snow has caused many rivers to flood, the Agua fria river in central AZ flooded at crest level of 35,000 cfs and was bank to bank normal flow is 10 cfs. Trees not protected from the current were striped of their bark, snaped in half or up rooted. Lake pleasent completly filled up, and the water was diverted down the CAP to tuscon were it is used as groundwater recharge project. Over rivers like the Verde crested at a 100,000 cfs and flood the towns of Cottenwood, Camp verde. The Hassamapa river also flooded parts of Wickenburg, even Tonto creek flooded killing 3 people and filling Rosevelt lake up. The lake was nearly dry last summer. Horseshoe lake also completly filled up from being dry, its on the verde river. The lake had been dry for so long that a large cienega developed from a little water that was still backed up behined the dam. A rare brid the southwestern fly cacther made its home their. The crazy sierra club wanted to the filling of the lake because it flood its new home. But Horseshoe lake would of filled up anyways since part of its job is flood protectsion from large floods, besides the people of the valley will need that captured flood water in the summer. Wasting such a good gift of water is quiet stupid, beside the lake will be dairned in the summer for the water needs of the valley. The tree will still be there, so the brids can move right back in. In the desert wasting water by draining lakes is not smart, so it is no surprise to me that the wakcos at the sierra club would think of it. I think they would like to see the people of the valley die of thrist not to protect a little brid.

You guys realy should study up on the N cycle before you go on and on about it. Their are all ready bacteria that convert N2 to nitrate to other N compounds that plant can use, which we eat and use to make are DNA, Protiens, and many other compounds. It takes large amounts of energy to convert N2 into nitrates because the triple bound has to be broken. But break down of nitrates gives back energy that was used and other bacteria eat nitrates and convert it into N2. It is a complete nateral cycle on the earth. Until we started converting it are selfs. But bacteria could easly break down any from of nirtates into N2 with out any enginering, since they eat the stuff. All that is need is liqued water, warmth and food nitrates. That could take awhile for condition to get that way on Mars.

Any one that lives in the USA has ate large amounts of GM food stuffs with no ill effect. Their is no such thing as Frankenfood, it only exist in simple minded folk that ride the short bus.
I due agree that it is wrong to paten seeds, because those seeds grow up and spreed pollen with those genes to plants of the same kind. Their may owen the genes but sue the bees or wind for spreeding the genes to people who dint pay you, you cant sue nature so let the poor farmers be. The way to add mass is with a very condensed formed found in nuetron stars, it would take up a small volume yet add the mass of earth to mars. I think the average size of a nuetron star is 20 by 20 mile a perfect sphere. Yet has the mass of many suns and lots of gravity. Nuetron stars would be a good source a matter for the construction of wormwholes, because you need the mass of Sol to get one started. We could make our own nuetron matter with partical smashers, by breaking up He and storing the resulting nuetrons.
By adding nuetron matter to any smaller body than the Earth you could easly increase its mass and gravity. Until artifisal gravity develop this would be the best way to increase mass of object while taking by a small volume. For object to small to hold onto atmospheres, increasing their mass could be the first step in terrafroming. Or more simple make a world house around the object "Tent" paraform. This would work well for the moon of Sol 3a.

Orion ship makes sense too me, why should America worry about what other countrys think of us. We certianly din't in Irag. One way to get support would be to due a joint mission to mars or the moon to start bases with Russia. The US and Russia have thousand of nukes laying around. I think Russia would go for it like if they provide half the nukes. Since it was Russia and and the US that singed the test band treaty I think they would let Orion happen if they were in on it.
If France protest who cares? A joint project with Russia would get rid of a big international road block. I think the big reason why Nasa din't go with orion was that Sovets would copie are idea and saved their space program. The mer space sation could have been ten times bigger. It would have changed the cold war and and made it hotter with increased in the new space race. Now I think Russia and America could both benfit so that opens the gate. Only problem china and other countrys have nukes too and would copy us. India could send a man to the moon, with orion.

Scfi channel has red mars under develpment which they are trying to change the book into a script a hard task because the the book just jumps to person to person with out much explian why they change. Also all the techa speak about terraforming will titolate us mars fans but will bore other people. Another flim or mini serse under development at scfi channel is ring world, from that Niven ring idea.
