Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut re landing legs for Starship for Lunar landing.

Thanks for taking a look at the image Gemini created.

Your post in Landing Legs referred to Wikipedia but did not show a reference.

To save our readers time, please edit your post to show a direct link to the material you are citing.

I am confident you will NOT find that the legs are added AFTER reaching LEO.

I am confident the legs are part of the launch vehicle.

My post was about letting go of that old idea, and instead, configuring the Starship for service as a true "space" vehicle.

If you add the legs in orbitl then they can be as big as GW Johnson recommends.

Please note the large feet!  GW has a recommended against typical little flat feet because they can dig in if the vehicle is moving sideways.

PS ... thanks for the links you found to Louis and other member conversations about electric vehicles and electric roads.

Louis was talking about charging vehicles from road supplied power, and not the road sucking power out of vehicles.

I think the induction idea has great merit, because it keeps the power supply infrastructure under ground and out of danger from wind, lightning, accidents due to collisions or other damage that objects above the surface experience.

One other possible advantage might be improved roadway clearing during snow events, but i'm not sure about that.  I just assumed there must be some warming of the roadway in the vicinity of the induction coils, but the amount of that waste would be small, because of the expense of electricity at the supply end.

I bring this up because  Calliban has proposed an overhead electric supply such as trolleys use.  That is certainly a well proven technology, and installation costs would surely be less than an induction coil system under a roadway surface.

Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut re new Engineering Category ...

GW Johnson brought to my attention that he is unable to contribute to the new Tools Forum.

It appears that I am able to contribute as a moderator.

Please take a look to see if you can adjust permissions to allow GW to add new tools.

Thanks!

Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut re Potholes run to 242000.

The run completed overnight without hiccups.  I'll post the results later.

Surprise! We had a perfect run!  The next scan will be run at 243000.

Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut ... just FYI ...

I got this today, while trying to edit an existing post.

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator at webmaster@newmars.com to inform them of the time this error occurred, and the actions you performed just before this error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

We haven't seen that error since we upgraded our system in 2024.

I'm sorry to see it again.

The problem seems to be related to using a code block.  It may not apply to other post content.

Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut ....

Dr. Muller arrived here thanks to the work we (forum) have done over many years to try to build up searchability on the Internet.

Dr. Muller entered a search (paraphrasing) for a web site where Mars Development is under serious discussion, and we showed up in the results.

Congratulations for ** your ** efforts over many years to encourage participation in the forum.

Re: Housekeeping

Its most likely the apache server is getting fragmented again. which is the issue we previous found on the host....

Dr. Muller seems quite interesting.

Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut ...

Just FYI ... the Azure Lifeboat has been stable for an extended period...

Today it did not respond.  Cloudflare handled the request but reported that the site itself was not responding

I checked status and it was showing as "running" but the "virtual Agent" was not responding.

I issued the Stop command and the system stopped a short time later.

When I issued the Start command the display changed to "Updating" which I have not seen before.

A short time after that the system reported as "running" and the Virtual Agent warning was gone.

The site is back working again.

I noticed in the log that updates were applied two days ago.  I wonder if those updates might have required a restart.

***
The ** big ** news for today is we have our first ** Bracket Day ** showing in the daily calendar.

With this success, I am ready to move on to generating the full month.

The plan is to have an image of the sky in the top fold, and the 28 day months in the bottom fold.

We already have the sky image ... It shows Orion above Aries Crater at midnight between Year 38 and Year 39.

Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut ...

The 2026 Mars Society Convention is over, and Mr. Burk may have a spare minute to help you set up the new Daily Recap PHP file.

Please put on your Senior Administrator hat and ask for that service.

As a bonus, it would be helpful if Mr. Burk would put our Image Server back online by changing the password to allow access to the MySQL database.

Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut ...

HG Muller expressed interest in using the Image Server.

https://newmars.com/forums/viewtopic.ph … 07#p242507

Please include that in your request to Mr. Burk.

The password to our database needs to be updated in the phpBB3 package.

Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut ...

First, thanks for this post on the completion of the 378 day simulated Mars mission!
https://newmars.com/forums/viewtopic.ph … 57#p242557

Second, now that the 2026 Convention is over, we might have an opportunity to win a bit of Mr. Burk's time.

You are the only person who could make that request.

We have two outstanding items that I am aware of:

1) Your Daily Recap would be helpful

2) Providing the Image Server with a password would be helpful.
