I have recovered the old e=mail address, but intend to convert to one that I view daily, and then change the password.
Quote:
I also note that you did not contact us at our access email. We publish that address every day, and we have done so for years.
I do not know what the access e-mail is, and of course with the web site being down, it was not apparent to me.
Color me stupid in that matter at least. But even a fool can learn sometimes. If I get it now, then I can store it for future reference.
Help?
Before I change my P.W and e-mail, I want that.

Hi Void!
Thanks for your interest in email and recovery.
When you look at the first page of the web site, even before you log in, the recovery email address is right there, under "You are not logged in"
After you log in, the Announcement is right under "Logged in as "
I know... it's always there so no one looks at it.
Well, now you get a chance to write it down or record it in some way.
Hopefully we will never go down again, but we've had three outages in the past two years.
The one in 2024 was an outage of the entire Mars Society family of sites, including us.
The more recent one was just us.
The email site is checked every day.
Once you set up a new email, you are welcome to send a test message to the recovery email.
One of the Admins will get back to you (hopefully the same day).

Thanks for checking your email!
I just sent a message using our email server, kindly provided by Mars Society!
(Thank you Mr. Burk!)
Please let us know if the email arrives.
No need to reply via email.
We just need to confirm the test email arrived.

I received the message sent from Newmars into my email account that was not functioning (Which is working now).
But perhaps it will change E-mails and passwords so that I can get a daily update is there should be one. I presume that the site does not send out endless spam.
I also am expecting that if I change passwords and E-mail at the same time the new E-mail will then be registered to the newmars site.
True?
Thanks.

For Void! Thanks for confirming the test email arrived. There is NO email from newmars.com/forums unless there is an emergency, which is ** very ** rare. On the other hand, if ** you ** have a problem reaching the site, the email is there for contact.
The new email you might choose is stored in your Profile record. It is not visible to others unless you choose to make it visible.
Passwords and email are two different things. They do not interact in any way.
You can change one or the other or both.

Thanks for introducing the radio frequency cutting technology as a possibility for use on the Moon.
https://newmars.com/forums/viewtopic.ph … 42#p238742
It is possible the folks at Quaise haven't thought of that.
They might be willing to reply to an email inquiry if you were to reach out to them.
They may have a contact form on their web site.
I'll bet a question about the Moon does not come into their offices every day.
It seems to my your idea of "carving" with this tool has a lot of potential.
Perhaps experiments along these lines have already occurred?

Because you and Calliban are using the same secure email service, is there a chance you could send him an email?
Calliban may not know we are back online, and his email service refused to forward our message because (I am sure) he did not have our address in his "approved" list.
Since you are using the same service, you may be able to reach him.
Would you be willing to try?
You should be able to see the email address he is using by opening the profile for Calliban.
If my theory is correct, you might be able to send an email to Calliban from your home email.
If not, then we will learn more about the secure email service.

I have the address, and will make two attempts today some time, I expect, from two different E-Mail Addresses.
I will let you know the results today or tomorrow, I hope, if it fails.
I suspect that if it works, he will show up.

I am sorry but the message did not go through. I will try from a different e-mail address at a later date.

For Void re #234
Thanks for your report that the message did not go through.
We did not send a message because you are using a secure email provider. Do you have control of the approved correspondents? Am I correct in thinking you pay a subscription to belong to this service? Your experience is valuable to us because Calliban is using the same service. Did you try sending a message to Calliban? If it was rejected, it means that someone using the same service cannot send an email to another member of the same service.
Thanks again for assisting with this.
Perhaps it might make sense for members of the forum to use email that might actually work. My experience with the service to which you subscribe is limited to being blocked, but I've seen no evidence that it actually sends or receives anything.
That said, it is clear that the service is ** very ** popular because it still exists. That means subscribers are paying for the immense costs associated with this level of security.

I had that e-mail for a very long time, and it got filled up. I stopped using it as I had for some reason a cleaner one. I suspect that the provider thought the e-mail was abandoned and so disabled it.
On pressure from you I revived the e-Mail. it seems to be working well, but the previous history is gone.
I will think about it as I have said, I have another E-mail address, and I may try that at some point.
My more paranoid parts, suggest to me that the UK has told citizens not to play in this place. Good chances I am wrong, but I did notice the absence of some members before the web site went down. It is said that the UK and Europe are behaving strangely as per free speech.
Unlikely but not impossible, I think.

This message is about the interesting idea you have included in this post about the Moon...
https://newmars.com/forums/viewtopic.ph … 70#p238770
This is an idea you've described in other topics.
It occurs to me that this technology might deserve a topic of it's own.
Unmanned Probes is a possibility as a Category for a topic just about this idea.
The idea itself may very well be practical, but the details you have revealed so far leave much to the imagination of your readers.
It is clear that the inventor of the idea understands that both ends of the tether must release mass simultaneously.
However, the moment of release is only significant for one of the masses. The other mass will necessarily go in the exact opposite direction and the exact same velocity, but it will have no relationship to anything else. The first mass will (presumably) go to it's destination. The second mass will be traveling at a high velocity in the exact opposite direction, and that mass needs to contain a radio transponder because it is a danger to everyone it is's path. Not only that... the mass will curve around the Sun (unless it has Solar System escape velocity) and that means it will remain a risk to anyone or any thing in it's path.
I hope you might be interested in study of this idea a bit further.
From a practical point of view, it should be possible to sue a launch operator who puts a heavy mass on a path that leads to destruction of property or danger or injury to humans.
Insurance companies will be interested in the risks of the operation you've described.
For all these reasons, a topic about this particular technology may have potential for growth.
Void, I am particularly interested in this technology because it appears capable of sending a probe to a visitor to our Solar System that is just passing through at high velocity. We've had two instances of this in the recent past. The velocity needed to match flight path with either of these objects was beyond present human capability. The system you've described appears capable of giving a sensor package the velocity and vector it needs to match flight path with those extra-solar visitors. I think it is definitely worth pursuing, with the caveat about that reverse traveling mass.
