Dinosaurs

The latest film suggested that Dinosaurs might be cold adapted.

So does this article: https://phys.org/news/2022-07-dinosaurs … -mass.html
Quote:

Dinosaurs took over amid ice, not warmth, says a new study of ancient mass extinction

The current thinking is that polar conditions at times provided a challenge of cold.  And so, Dinosaurs would have had to adapt to it.  Probably Mammals followed a similar path.

However I think that they should be looking at alpine conditions as well.  Dinosaur and Mammal adaptations may have had advantages there as well.  I believe that there were supposed to be some huge mountain ranges at times.

I have been watching video's of certain types of birds on the internet.  Cockatoos, and Indian Ringnecks.

Cockatoos, are thought to have an intelligence of a 5 year old, and an emotional intelligence of a 2 year old.

Unless with a very special kind of person I don't think that they should be kept as pets.

I am thinking of them as a sort of less intelligent alien though.  One that is at hand.  Some of them talk if they want to. Sometimes it looks like more than mimic talking.

They have one dominant foot that they more use as a foot and one foot that they can also use as a hand.

So, they have some similarities to humans, up to a point.  But are also different, and so alien.  Close enough to sort of figure out something about how they think, but still quite different.

My understanding is that they do not do well in microgravity, as they have major problems to swallow without gravity.

I think that these animals can be an important calibration point for our understanding.  Whales are too different from us, perhaps Apes too similar.  Some of these birds offer yet another point that we might partially understand, and yet things that are odd to us.  Real aliens could be any of those things.

They can be amusing to watch on video.

I think there are two Cockatoo's on the internet named "Max".  Max does not want to go to the vet.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0Y2Ke7Spvg

Gotcha appears to actually talk.  I am never sure it is not a hoax.

Tantrum: https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=Go … &FORM=VIRE

Barney with captions is entertaining hoax or not.
https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=Ba … 6ghacc%3D0

There are some other ones.

Buttons, and others.

They are extremely demanding, loud, and destructive from what I understand.  They have to have a minimum of 4 hours of attention a day.

And they can bite severely.

Done for now.

Re: Dinosaurs

Sometimes I get interested in things, and don't particularly know why.  But often then I think I find something.

I think that flying birds think very fast.  Their baud rate is fast, I think. smile

And so that could be a communications barrier between humans and them.  To  them we may be "Slo-Mo".

My reason to think that is observations of what might be real bird/human activity in these video's.

I have wondered if a computer could be created to stimulate these birds, and to communicate with them in their real time?  Then perhaps that same computer could interpret to some extent to us in our comfortable time / Baud Rate.

It is unlikely that humans will ever do a face to face with Aliens, it would probably be a foolish or uncomfortable thing.
But, a computer interface might help.  Of course in a Sci-Fi story you might have an evil "HAL" computer.  smile
HAL might lie in it interpretations.

I understand we are not going to be talking what we think is high thinking with birds.  When they took to the air, they gave up large brains.  And for whatever reason, our rats, have never allowed them to have big brains on the ground.

Perhaps that is because they leave vulnerable nests with eggs and babies.  The rats love that.

But should they have ever by some method have escaped the predation of mammals, maybe they might have come along more.

Perhaps the right size land mass absent mammals, for the right period of time.

But I think they have been getting gut punches ever since the asteroid strike.

Granted, I am not sure I would like to be at the mercy of intelligent Dinosaurs.

I guess that is not likely.  Being nesting and flying, the brain can only be so big, but it can be faster, probably for a price.

A curious question is why do they almost universally favor beaks instead of teeth?  It does not seem to apply to mammals.

On another alien word perhaps flying and big brains might make sense, relative to ground crawling, and a big brain.

Not sure how often that could happen.  Maybe thick atmosphere, low gravity, but it seems that might be a tall order.

Chatterbox Parots are fun, I feel:  https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=Ch … &FORM=VIRE

Ravens are of interest as well, and cold adapted also.

Done

Re: Dinosaurs

I ran across this today by accident: https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=Wh … 6ghacc%3D0

From this article, it appears that only 3 or 4 bird types survived the extinction event.  All of the survivors had beaks and not teeth.

Beaks are lighter, and also develop more quickly in the eggs.

I have presumed that bird brains having to be lighter, they might be quicker, or more efficient.  But I don't know that is true.  And so, I think baud rate of bird brains might make it more possible for us to understand them.  Possibly we a slow and boring to them.  Perhaps they have trouble keeping there attention span compatible with that of humans.

Some birds though do talk to some degree, or can, and some do use tools to some degree.

Done.

Re: Dinosaurs

I am not very ambitious just now, but I did run into these:

Max throws a tantrum over an apple, Max the Moluccan, Utube

Usually, I am not sure that I believe that this is real, but it looks real to me.

https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=Ma … ORM=WRVORC

This is a different but amusing bird:  (He sometimes sounds like he is summoning demons smile)

https://www.bing.com/search?q=Max+throw … 3e&pc=U531

These birds are loud and want lots of attention and will provoke a human to get it in any way they can.  That can include biting, so if they do bite the owner has to try not to give a strong reaction.

They supposedly have the intelligence of a 5-year-old human and the emotional intelligence of a 2-year-old.  So, they cannot be expected to not act out.

I believe that sometimes these birds will talk and sometimes not so much.  You cannot make them talk.

Other birds are "Barney", who seems to tell very weird tails at times.
https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=Ba … &FORM=VDRE

Barney the cockatoo telling a story, with captions: https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=Ba … &FORM=VDRE

And there are many others.

They need a very large amount of care and I think some can live in captivity for 80 years.

They are less full of bacteria than humans.

You should not touch them anywhere except their head, and I suppose their feet.  If you do pet them that way, they can get hormonal and go into a mating mode and start nesting and being territorial.  This can be dangerous for the females as egg laying can be a danger/stress.

I like them, on the internet as they are quite alien to the human body type but do have some ability to speak and can use their dominant foot as a "Hand".  The other intelligent creatures such as mammals have male and female secondary sexual features.  They do not have hands, only a mouth to grasp things.  Octopus are too alien and do not live very long.  Canabals as well, I think.

The birds have a Cloaca, unlike Mammals.  Although it may be that some birds like Ducks are different????

Anyway, these birds are very alien to humans in many ways but have some critical similarities.  This might point to how intelligent aliens may also be very different but have some critical similarities. (Maybe).

I think I have mentioned Gotcha before and there is Vinny: https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=go … &FORM=VDRE

Vinney: https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=go … ORM%3DVDRE

I think that boxes are fun for them as they chew them up, but they may try to nest and then they might get hormonal that way, and so become territorial.

This one had a former owner with a teen girl that taught it to say swear words, but not in this video: https://www.bing.com/videos/search?&q=o … ajaxhist=0

Onni Ceccato is also interesting: https://www.bing.com/videos/search?&q=o … ajaxhist=0

I have seen some hints that these birds can have a sense of modesty.  I guess I saw a video with something like that a long time ago.
It did not like being filmed while doing its business at an airport into a garbage.

Ringnecks are also interesting: https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=ri … M%3DHDRSC3

But I don't think that they are as intelligent.

https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=ri … ORM=HDRSC3

Hopefully I will not offend.  It appears that for these birds the males talk more than the females, (So far), but that is quite the opposite of humans.

I think that this is a Mustache Parakeet, and is very excited about babies: https://www.bing.com/videos/search?&q=r … ajaxhist=0

This one shows a foot that can be a bit like a hand: https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=ri … ORM=VDMCNR

Done.

Re: Dinosaurs

walking her dog

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech … saurs.html

A high school teacher taking her dog for a walk along the shore of Prince Edward Island, Canada discovered fossilized remains of an unknown animal that walked the Earth 300 million years ago - about 50 million years earlier than the dinosaurs.

Lisa St. Coeur Cormier, 36, spotted something poking out from the reddish-colored dirt and at a closer glance, she realized it was a rib cage - and then she saw the attached and skull.

The fossil has not yet been identified, but John Calder, a geologist and paleontologist working on the case, suspects it is some type of lizard or a close relative.

Before an official  'Age of the Dinosaurs'

Scientists Have Been Underestimating the Asteroid That Created the Biggest Known Crater on Earth
https://www.universetoday.com/157921/sc … -on-earth/
The Vredefort impactor struck Earth about 2 billion years ago during the Paleoproterozoic Era and is now located in South Africa. Previous research put the Vredefort impactor at between 10 to 15 km in diameter, and the crater — or impact structure as scientists call them — was about 160–300 km (100–200 mi) across when it was formed. Erosion has reduced its size in the two billion intervening years, though, making the nature of the impactor, the size of the crater, and the impact’s effects difficult to gauge accurately.
The Vredefort crater is a two-billion-year-old impact structure located in South Africa. Image Credit: Google Earth.
