Re: Rocket Lab Video

It's time for an update to Louis' topic here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZGI_lHGltA

This video shows the successful launch this evening, including the early part of an attempt to recover the first stage.

If someone spots an update about the attempt to return the first stage, please add it to this topic.

The plan (as I understand it) was to deploy parachutes to splash the stage in the ocean as the first phase of development and testing.

Ultimately, (again as I understand it) the plan is to catch the stage with a helicopter.

A detail: The second stage is designed to fire its last bit of fuel to drop out of orbit after deploying its 31 payload satellites.

Re: Rocket Lab Video

For SpaceNut re topic ... the way Rocket Lab is going (recovery from failure and resuming stage capture attempt) we should build up a useful set of posts as they go along.  The parachute capture idea is similar to what I understand

Here is a video about the helicopter capture idea looked like a few months ago.  Interview is by Everyday Astronaut.

Update on Friday ... The first stage splashed down as planned, and a recovery team is on its way to the site, or has arrived there.  Pictures are promised.

Re: Rocket Lab Video

This is the same capture which was for Genisis and Stardust canister return. One failed to open its parachutes while the other worked like a charm.
