NASA is wondering about it's future, the HST repair made some unhappy
the Hubble trouble left many into the space-telescope fanclub and Space-robotic community unsure about how this manned vision to Mars would affect their favourite areas of science.
Hubble may be understandable and explained by what will be got in return
But more recently we saw they canceled the Mars telecom orbiter mission, MTO getting axed is sad news.
People are asking do they have the budget for manned Mars projects, NASA needs some news direction or a good re-view of this vision.

Maybe if the US has less dollars for robotic missions other countries or private organizations can step up and fill the void of any loss of science due to robotics. I here Europe’s Mars Express was quite successful. Maybe we will see more robotic missions from other countries to follow. I hear India and Japan have some planed. The planetary society launched a solar sail. Did the mars society launch there own mission yet (mars genesis?). Maybe someday Canada will launch it’s own mars mission [fingers crossed].

2006 in Washington DC
Everyone who reads this message board should attempt to go. As with the 2004 Chicago convention, any NewMars member who greets me in person and asks will be treated to ONE beverage of their choice (draft beer or equivalent).
The cost? Ya' gotta listen to me blather for 5 or 10 minutes.
Give someone a sufficient why and they can endure just about any how

I'm planning to go if at all possible. It would be my second mars society convention. My first one was the toronto one. That was probably the last time I paid my membership dues.
