Thank you for the links in #55, and specifically for the Stack Exchange debate ... The long series of replies concluded with a thoughtful reply from someone who might be associated with the Mars Society. I thought the entire series was worth reading, with various degrees of understanding reflected in the text.

I am persuaded by the concluding argument, that the extreme conditions of the antarctic are not needed, and the existing desert facilities (around the world) can be enhanced to approach closer and closer to self-sufficiency.

One poster listed off the existing remote outposts which are (presumably) contributing to knowledge suitable for the Mars effort.

The ship will carry a team of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration scientists on board who will survey McMurdo's Winter Quarters Bay and also test a hydroponic garden system to see whether crew members can grow fruits and vegetables aboard the ship, according to Woityra.
With the McMurdo mission canceled last year, the Polar Star crew of 134 deployed instead to the Arctic for a show of American presence in the region, as well as to test communications equipment and conduct training exercises.
The mission was the first time a Coast Guard cutter had traveled north of the Arctic Circle during the winter in nearly 40 years.
To prepare for this year's Antarctica mission, the 46-year old vessel has been in drydock, part of a service-life extension project designed to make it last another decade as the Coast Guard builds the first of three new heavy icebreakers under the Polar Security Cutter program.
Some of the ship's systems are new, and some are refurbished and repurposed from Polar Star's sister vessel, Polar Sea, kept in drydock for donor parts.
This year, when Polar Star suffered a "major casualty" of its emergency generator -- "it spun out of control and basically ate itself," Woityra said -- Polar Sea supplied the replacement, a system that otherwise would have taken 18 months to fabricate.
"We sent it out to be cleaned and refurbished, and now it's good to go," Woityra said.
VT Halter Marine in Pascagoula, Mississippi, was selected to build the first Polar Security Cutter, with construction expected to begin this year. The first of the $745 million, 460-foot vessels is expected to be delivered in 2024.
Meanwhile, Woityra's crew will work to ensure that Polar Star can carry on the McMurdo resupply mission for at least the next three years. It's not an easy task, the commanding officer said, considering the age of the vessel and its parts.
In 2019, Polar Star had a fire onboard during Operation Deep Freeze -- a blaze in the garbage incinerator that took the crew two hours to put out. The incinerator was destroyed, but the crew managed to keep the fire from spreading.
But with many of the systems, including the incinerator, having been upgraded, Woityra said the ship is in better shape "than it's been in a decade."
The crew getting underway is 100% vaccinated against COVID-19 and has been since May. More than half are new to the ship, and fewer than one-third have ever made the trip to Antarctica.
Many of the 42 "non-rates" -- Coast Guard members who have not yet gone to a school for a professional specialty -- postponed applying to school so they could make the trip.
This will be Woityra's fifth journey to Antarctica and, likely, his last.

A five-month-long slumber party. A college dorm. An introvert’s hell.

Those are just some of the words residents of Antarctica use to describe life in the world’s coldest, most mysterious continent.

In 1959, 12 countries - including Chile, Japan, Australia and the United States – signed the Antarctic Treaty, pledging that the seventh continent would only be used “for peaceful purposes only.” As a result, there are no military bases there, although military planes and ships can bring people and supplies.
That means that only a few thousand humans can say that they have lived in Antarctica.
And yet, despite bunking with strangers, taking 90-second showers and having zero privacy, there are intrepid travelers who believe all the challenges are worth it.
Keri Nelson is one of them.
The Minnesota native first went to the White Continent in 2007 to work as a janitor at McMurdo Base, one of the three US outposts there. Now a veteran of 16 Antarctica seasons, she has done stints at all three stations – in addition to McMurdo, the largest and most active, there are Amundsen-Scott Station at the geographic south pole, and Palmer Station, north of the Antarctic peninsula.
“If I was going to describe it in musical form,” Nelson says, “I would say McMurdo was like gritty, dirty bluegrass and South Pole was like symphony music and Palmer is like really corny, fun pop music.”
Summer camp for grownups
In the summer months from October to March there can be as many as 1,000 people at McMurdo Base, from scientists to carpenters to dishwashers. Many support staffers have multiple jobs.
For example, Evan Townsend, creator of the Antarctica Flag, worked in the kitchen, tended bar and managed the craft room during his stint there.
“It is an entire town,” Keri Nelson says of McMurdo. “You could go whole seasons and never meet a lot of people there, and it’s just very busy at those stations. It’s just bustle, bustle, bustle all the time.” That’s due to McMurdo’s size as the biggest base, but also due to the rotation of staff, since people will move between other stations or go out on expeditions and research trips throughout the season.
While there are some modern amenities – a room for watching DVDs, a craft room, a gym – the clubhouse feel of the base offers lots of opportunities for socializing. Nelson has organized fashion shows complete with a runway and played music in the “ice bands” that often form during a season.

Just three kilometers (two miles) from McMurdo is New Zealand’s Scott Base, and sometimes staffers will make the trip across Ross Island to visit their US counterparts – joining in on their jam sessions, book club meetings and movie marathons. Some staffers even volunteer to teach classes in yoga, languages or other interests.

A South African man, arrested for allegedly stabbing people aboard a cruise ship in Alaska earlier this month, remains in custody in a United States correctional facility.

"Defendant is a South African citizen with no ties to the US. Alleged to have committed an unusually violent and unprovoked attack. Detained without prejudice," the documents stated.

The US Attorney's Office said upon arrival, Sogoni allegedly physically attacked a security guard and a male nurse inside an examination room and proceeded to enter another examination room where a US woman was being examined.
He grabbed a pair of scissors and stabbed the woman multiple times in the arm, hand and face.

'Palestine' has a high number of 'Police' but its a disaster, historically they are in conflict with Jewish Israeli Police or there are Sharia Law islamic Militia who link to Terrorists.

Mars and the offworlds might have people who are scientifically busy and little crime as the South Pole has little crime, there might be doctors human or an AI Robot that learns to read signs of problems on the rise before they become serious problems.
