Re: Space fairing Nations - The ever changing view

Belarus Space Agency was renamed, May 2015 the agency remained as part of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus but changed its name to National Agency for Space Researches. The two Belarusians who have travelled to space are Pyotr Klimuk and Vladimir Kovalyonok. Since the dissolution of the Soviet Union they have worked in Russia. Pyotr Klimuk went on a mission to the Salyut 4 space station, Vladimir Kovalyonok was on Salyut 6 a Soviet orbital space station.
Although there was an attempt for Russia to form a Union of sorts with Belarus, Ukraine and Kazakhstan are making joint efforts to adapt their systems, no formal agreements on cooperation in the development of common Geographic information system are in place

Russia has totally destroyed some of Ukraine's Commercial Aerospace industry since its aggressive expansionist invasion.
The Russians used to launch unmanned Soyuz rockets from the French launch site in S.America. Due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Soyuz launches from the Guiana Space Centre are suspended.

not sure if Iran plans on putting people in space but perhaps this thread is the best place for the news topic, or maybe the 'Mosques on Mars' thread

Indian Sats launched and future homegrown Indian launches coming . India is a parliamentary democratic secular republic in which the president of India is the head of state & first citizen of India and the prime minister of India is the head of government. Elected officials have sucessfully rode a political wave of Populism, Conservatism and also Nationalism identity or Hindutva or Hinduness is the predominant form of Hindu nationalism in India, there are also minor parties of Sikhs, Marxists and Jihad islamists inside India and the Coalition of National Democratic Alliance (NDA)  an Indian big tent political alliance led by the overall conservative rightwing Nationalist, the Coalition party was founded in 1998 and currently controls the government of India. The Indian Human Spaceflight Programme  was initiated in 2007 by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to develop the technology needed to launch crewed orbital spacecraft into low Earth orbit. https://indianexpress.com/article/expla … n-5308964/ In December 2018, the government approved further 100 billion Indian Rupee or US$1.5 billion for a 7-days crewed flight of 2–3 astronauts.Corona virus had an impact and  Gaganyaan launches had been postponed due to impact of COVID-19 pandemic in India,  due to the COVID-19 pandemic training was put on hold in 2020. It has also been reported the French might be involved or invested and CNES is supplying the flight system, and training flight physicians and technical teams for the Indian Human Spaceflight Programme.

PSLV-C53 is scheduled to launch DS-EO & 2 other co-passenger satellites on June 30, 2022, at 18:00 hrs IST from the 2nd Launch Pad, SDSC-SHAR, Sriharikota. It accompanies PSLV Orbital Experimental Module (POEM) orbiting the earth as a stabilized platform

Mission - Overview updated

https://www.planetary.org/space-missions/kplo

South Korea launched Danuri — also known as the Korean Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter (KPLO) — to the Moon on August 5, 2022. With Danuri, South Korea forays into planetary exploration, begins its ambitious lunar exploration program, and finds a collaborator in NASA. Equipped with four indigenously built instruments and a NASA-provided camera, Danuri will show us new views of the Moon’s surface and help us plan future missions there, including landing humans on its poles.

ShadowCam’s camera is at least 200 times more sensitive than the one on the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. This will allow it to see a shadowed region on the Moon as if it was sunlit! ShadowCam will map the terrain inside permanently shadowed regions with a very high resolution of up to 1.7 meters per pixel, and help locate their water ice deposits and other such volatile resources based on how they reflect light. This will tell us how abundant and accessible these resources are — a crucial step towards safely and affordably planning future missions to the lunar poles and building sustainable habitats.

Sweden back in February 2013, a government audit was released by the Swedish National Audit Office; amongst its conclusions, it observed that "Swedish space investment is distributed among multiple organizations that operate as stovepipes with no real communication between them and no common ambition." While approximately 1 billion Swedish krona (US$158 million) was being spent each year on Swedish space initiatives by this time, the audit report calls for additional oversight by the Swedish government of the European Space Agency (ESA), along with a review of the Swedish Space Corporation's operations and purpose.

if you are rich like Swiss maybe you don't care, Norway, Singapore perhaps you can just shop around and get your own satellite, however for some nations have their own home grown access to space is vital, the independent access can also be an issue of security.

Soyuz is gone from Kourou Guiana, I wonder if Musk was launching from equatorial site in French Guiana South America perhaps he would dominate the market.

South Korea is very interesting because watching the discussion here on newmars it was as if they would be left behind by Chinese and Japanese but suddenly its almost like they came from nowhere and within a year had a launch vehicle and a mission to the Moon, although Korean their Moon mission got help from the biggest Private Sector name 'Space-X'.  There is also news Taiwan will launch a satellite and news Vietnam might develop their space program.

I think Britain either using home grown tech or contracts with the Private Sector will try and secure its access to space, the relationship between Roscosmos of Russia and the West has been in decline due to political fallout from the Ukraine invasion.

Launch startup SpaceRyde fortifies advisory board
https://spacenews.com/launch-startup-sp … ory-board/
Canadian launch startup SpaceRyde said Aug. 8 it has added a second member to its advisory board with the appointment of Mina Mitry, the CEO of small satellite operator Kepler Communications.

Mitry joins Jeff Thornburg, SpaceRyde’s inaugural advisory board member and a former vice president of propulsion engineering at SpaceX.

Kepler, also based in Canada, operates 19 cubesats that provide low-data-rate connectivity to devices out of range of terrestrial networks. The operator also plans a data-relay constellation of larger satellites that it expects to start deploying in 2023.

SpaceRyde said Mitry’s expertise will help the startup scale up operations as it plans to perform its first commercial mission in 2024.

Founded in 2018, SpaceRyde is developing a small, three-stage rocket that would fire engines after a balloon takes it above most of the Earth’s atmosphere.

Re: Space fairing Nations - The ever changing view

The Biden administration is reportedly drafting an executive order to streamline space rules

wants to simplify licensing and approval procedures for more routine space activities, including things like rocket launches and satellite deployments. Among the measures the Biden administration is considering is an order that would task the Department of Commerce with creating an online tool that would guide companies through the licensing requirements from each federal agency. The team drafting the order is also looking for ways to push Congress to give certain federal agencies oversight of space activities that aren’t covered by current laws, including things like asteroid mining and space junk removal. The order could be ready for President Biden to sign by early next year.

The administration’s push to streamline space regulations comes as companies like Blue Origin prepare to spend billions on projects like Orbital Reef, a space station the firm hopes to start assembling in low Earth orbit by the end of the decade.

Right now the process is with the FAA...
