Re: Chat

I have a floor of the hotel all to myself. In Bearskin Lake, Ontario, they're paranoid of COVID-19. I have a room with 2 twin beds, the other 4 rooms empty. Common area has sofa, chair, coffee table, an office chair, small TV with satellite, stove, microwave, fridge, coffee maker, and toaster. Men's washroom with one toilet & sink, women's washroom is blocked off. Separate shower with one shower stall and another sink. I'm told I'm not allowed upstairs where the restaurant is. But it's Ok. I've been to places that don't have a restaurant. Wish I had.my camping stuff with me, but that's in the backpack I use as a toolbag. I packed a microwave & dishwasher safe Tupperware container as a bowl, interlocking knife/fork/spoon, small plastic cup, and a military can opener. My toiletries are in there too. I can make do.

Re: Chat

Yea! Got my bag. They let me carry it on the flight to Sioux Lookout. Now layover 2 1/4 hours until the next flight. Change of airline so have to check my bag. No one at check-in counter. But plenty of time.

Re: Chat

My girlfriend texted me that a worker at the doughnut/coffee shop by her place has been diagnosed with COVID. yikes I guess I won't see her for a while. There's a test centre within walking distance from her place.

Re: Chat

Not all that surprising that its still trickling into the area as we are becoming lacks again with the preventative measures.
A van pool that carries in workers had 6 identify where I work last Friday over the weekend they became ill with covid...
The bad part is the delay to symptoms is days to weeks before it might show you are infected.
I am sure She will understand the risk is to high...
Good luck with the near steady work....

53% of people infected show no symptoms at all. But they spread the disease.

For RobertDyck re #159 ... best wishes for a successful trip!

Thanks for the hint about Conquest 441 ... Google came up with an article I read all the way through ... rough start for the design, but it has proven itself!

https://www.aopa.org/news-and-media/all … a-conquest

interesting about the potty included due to continental range.

Re: Chat

On the road again
Just can't wait to get on the road again
The life I love is... (line that doesn't apply)

And I can't wait to get on the road again
On the road again

Goin' places that I've never been
Seein' things that I may never see again

And I can't wait to get on the road again
On the road again

Re: Chat

Yes, I have only flown once for the company transfer of equipment and manufacturing of a 2k watt battery backup unit back in the mid 80's to the research triangle park in Apex. It was a 727 flight near Christmas leaving my wife and year old son home for 10 days while I setup the testing equipment, taught theory of operation and trouble shooting as well as safety for the device. I was the technician on the test and manufacturing floor at the time which they sent not the engineers but at the time I had learned all that I could about its design and use and was a key member for the company to send.
Well wishes for the trip...

Re: Chat

Flight back to Berens River this morning. Flight delayed. Past flights by this airline have usually been a Cessna Grand Caravan, but plane hasn't arrived yet.

Flight cancelled. Rescheduled for 2:30pm.

Edit again: Afternoon flight cancelled. Weather. Will have to be rescheduled for another day. Will have to be Thursday of next week. Tomorrow afternoon flight available, but cannot return Wednesday because that airline doesn't operate on Remembrance Day. (?) I'm booked for another job Thursday of this week through Wednesday of next. Sat on my ass for most of the last 3 weeks, no work at all for 2 weeks before that, now everything happening at once. Why does it always seem to happen like this? Well, work good! I'll take what I can get.

Re: Chat

I know the feeling since I usually have that rolling stone steam roll me as well in that if I did not have bad luck I would have no luck at all...So I take my wins when I can and save for that rainy day when it pours....
Good luck my friend and safe journey to the next destination....

Re: Chat

Got work packing a customer who is moving. Packing I.T. stuff, dismantled and packed the server rack. Ran out of stuff to do, had to make work to fill the day. Reassembled the fancy manager monitor swing arm that I dismantled a couple weeks ago. Finished so won't get work tomorrow. They had a pile of monitors they won't take to the new site, another pile of boxes of new monitors. The old monitors were pretty good, but they'll have an electronic recycler pick them up. Office manager said I could take any monitor I wanted from their discard pile. I now have a 23" wide screen @ 1920 x 1080 (equal to TV resolution 1080p). Much bigger than my old one! I picked two monitors, and submitted a bid for the dual monitor swing arm. The other monitor has built-in webcam and microphone. Woo hoo! Free stuff!

Re: Chat

For SpaceNut ....

Your recent mention of using electric blankets in housekeeping reminded me of the post below, which is from two years ago.

SpaceNut wrote:

I know all to well the conditions of staying warm in a cold climate when you have no heating system.

Hopefully it will stay somewhat warmer for you RobertDyck.

Its not enjoyable but one can manage if you have funds to do work arounds.

I still have that situation but hopefully when I have funds I will get to change that situation as we did try wood for a bit but the cost to blow the air up stairs was to much when the cost of just 300 kwhrs of use cost the same as the first 800 kwhrs...

The wood was its own issue when unprepared to burn it for heat at this time of year not much of it is dry wood and is green to purchase in enough quantity.

I have had propane and got rid of it when the cost went to 600 in a month and the use of oil for the furnace that needs replacing costs in cold months 300 or so for each month.

Best wishes for finding an affordable solution to this challenge!

This amused me today, confused me first.

Hypernominalization confused me, then I looked up nominalization.  Still confusing, but I am developing a dim awareness.  It is not my type of thing, the English language, or other verbal languages.  Still some amusement!

I have to work on this.

Re: Chat

Flight to Garden Hill MB yesterday. First trip north of 53° in 13 months. COVID restrictions. Finally got the PINpad for the Post Office to accept debit/credit cards. First time since they moved to the new building 3 years ago. Frankly, they really didn't need me, didn't need to replace the PINpad. They forgot I installed one over a year ago. All they really needed was to straighten out their merchant account. I told them what to do last time, and they did create a merchant account, but...SNAFU. This time I escalated until it was all done. I get paid for 2 full days.

Flight yesterday on Metroliner. Return was supposed to be this morning, but cancelled due to mechanical something on the plane. Aircraft for flight back just arrived. It's one of their big ones: Dash-8. Left hotel for airport @ 8:20am, flight was supposed to be 9:30. It's now 2:30pm, other passengers told to be here for 4:15pm. Waiting in a small airport all day. At least they have cell phone service here.

Re: Chat

Turned out that plane was a nurse charter. It's 4:15 and another Dash-8 arrived. Left hotel for airport at 8:20am. Wearing mask the whole time. Hope we board soon.
