SpaceNut-
This isn't the only space forum beset with a plague of spammers and troll artists. SpaceNews and Spaceflightinsider have had a particular individual banned time after time--only to be resurrected under a new id until a member complains. Other forums are a bit more lenient and allow a 90 day ban as a warning--after which an offender may return, but a second banning becomes permanent.
Online
I have also seen the demise of forums never to recover from the targeted onsloat of spammers that eventually cripple or infect them such that they fail.
MarsDrive with just a facebook presence
RedColony domain up for sale
marsnews which now redirects to newmars
space.com gone is the blog or forum
Universtoday joined bad astronomy which now is Cosmoquest for the forums

For SpaceNut re topic in general, but #102 specifically
There is an old (probably ancient) management dictum: If you want more of something, praise it. If you want less of something, criticize it.
I woke up this morning fired up with ideas to offer to the NewMars forum. My contribution will probably be negligible in the grand scheme of things, but your leadership (standing as you do on the shoulders of Giants who preceded you) is what gives me hope that the forum will be well managed, and that the overall tone will curve gently up and forward.
You have provided (and continue to provide) a respectful stage upon which someone as creative as Void can develop ideas and expand upon them to the limit of their ability.
Your stern attention to spammers is a signal that you run a tight ship, while at the same time allowing a significant degree of emotion to flow as seems to be a need of many humans.
Best wishes for slowly but surely adding high quality new members like Calliban shows signs of becoming.
Best wishes for retaining the cadre of substantial members who are already present.

For SpaceNut re FJMCooper3
The person behind this post does not appear to be interested in the forum, but instead testing the ability to post a message.
If this test post is allowed to remain for any length of time, I expect the test will be followed with real spam.
This forum benefits when individuals who are interested in the overall theme, or specific topics, are inspired to make a contribution that blends into the flow.
For this reason, in disappointment at a lost opportunity, I recommend retiring the ID "FJMCooper3".
This forum has been visited by a number of "visitors" like this one. The more I think about it, it is most likely to be a posting by a "really simple" robot program.
If someone wants to go to all the trouble of writing a robot to register with a forum and send a test message, why not take the logical next step and write a robot program that can make a useful contribution to whatever the topic is? Use your interest in software to accomplish something useful!

SpaceNut,
I deleted an online games advertisement post from the user named "GamesBXdaily", that user's first and only post here on New Mars, on the presumption that we haven't recently started advertising online games. If another advertisement post / topic is created by that user, then it's a pretty safe bet that the account is some sort of advertisement bot and can be deleted.

Has anyone heard from Kbd512? He lives in Houston, TX, and they have been hard hit by the tropical storm Imelda rains. It's worse east of Houston, but still quite bad in Houston. He had a really bad time from Hurricane Harvey just a couple of years ago. I'm worried about him and his family.

As of yet no contact, have been watching and looking for any news of the area to indicate conditions. I have seen the high flood waters in some images but do not know much else. I hope is all ok and that he has made it through it safely.

A friend lives in Houston ... here is a note from him
No flooding here. We opened clubhouse to public as a precaution. Area has drained well since. Thanks for checking in

Kbd512 is on the low side of Houston and recieved alot of water last time so we are hoping that he did not see the 40 plus inches of rain that hit that area....but that still good to here. Flood area will be without power until the water recedes so it could be a bit....

GW,
We made it through the latest flooding unscathed. I've been a little busy at work, which is why I haven't responded back sooner.
Thanks for the check in and that you are ok....

The new ID:

shows signs of being a robot. I've heard/read about AI simulations which approach human capability. This does not appear to be an example.

I would agree and the tell tale signs of country, email as well as the language are also indicators so the clients membership has been banned...

The post by
UANLakesha
seems poorly matched to the culture of this forum.
On the other hand, this member has offered what appears to be a real name, and an email address.
While it seems unlikely, perhaps this person could be persuaded to study the forum archive, to see if there might be something there to which he could make a meaningful contribution.

A new post by
GamesBX2608
might work for a forum devoted to children's education, or to promotion of digital games.
I don't see a direct application to this forum.
It's a shame, because this person shows capability of making a useful contribution.
The subject of education of children on Mars has come up tangentially in topics here, and (I suspect) digital technology will play a very significant role in education of both children and adults on Mars. This person might have been able to contribute useful insight into design of digital education systems for locations away from Earth, where adult teachers must devote most of their time to responsibilities other than teaching.
