Less scholarly, http://www.oldielyrics.com/lyrics/jimmy … html]Bring back the Magic:

Nothing can tear you apart
If you keep living straight from the heart
Though you know that you're gonna hurt some
The magic will come

If you keep living straight from the heart
you will know when to stop and to start
Once you see that no one really wins
Then the magic begins

Bring back the magic
Don't make life so tragic
Bring back the magic
Don't make life so tragic

And of course, this one:

http://vote2004.eriposte.com/]Lawyers assured of a good old day...

Wow... Can't help myself, but 99% of those things they describe are so...childish!

Only read it diagonally, probably a pro-Dem site(?) if so, I bet there are sites recording the same stuff, from the other perspective..

Sending leaflets: "Reps have to vote on 11/2, Dems on 11/3" Unbelievable. (Funny or sad?)

Re: Presidential Elections - ...and other political discussion.

Well I hope the harrassers are being escorted out.

From everything I'm hearing, the more docile ones have to be escorted out by poll workers every couple hours. As for the more aggressive individuals, there have reportedly been a few arrests. I'm just getting bits and pieces from radio and the occasional phone call, so I don't have a complete picture as of yet but the problems are clearly stemming overwhelmingly from one end of the spectrum. Rather pontless, the state is almost certainly going to go Democrat anyway. Not exactly the place to pull this stuff. But reason has since taken a back seat it seems.

I'm surrounded by angry jackasses!

*They're having problems with MoveOn.org in Iowa as well, according to a news report I just heard (coincidentally).  The org is giving an official statement that its volunteers have been advised of the rules before entering polling places...apparently some of the volunteers "forgot" and MO is checking into the complaints.

"Why does Rice play Texas?"

From: N. Wayne Hale, Jr., Deputy Manager, Space Shuttle Program...

A manager. "Yeach," I hear most people say.
And yet... What a beautiful article.

We all bash NASA for being old slow, lacking vision etc...
But the people there have dreams, all of them.

Thanks Clark

Today we have a new space exploration initiative, but the challenge is the same. Exploring the space frontier is extremely difficult, highly unforgiving, surrounded with risk and therefore immensely challenging. Our part is to fly the Space Shuttle safely and soon. It is a formidable challenge. Everyone from the President on down agrees that demonstrating we can succeed at this challenge is the necessary cornerstone to all that may come afterward. Flying the shuttle safely and completing the International Space Station will demonstrate that we - our agency - our nation - has the competence to continue on to roll back the frontiers. Meeting this challenge will change us forever. IT IS ONE WE INTEND TO WIN

Meeting this challenge will change us forever.

As I think I have said many times, its not about what we will FIND out there. Frankly, I am not sure there is anything out there worth finding in the context of the expense and risk we face.

But we must go out there to find what it is we can become.

Re: Presidential Elections - ...and other political discussion.

Weird how the mind filters stuff... You read something, and retain the things you want to 'hear'
I kind of read over the 'business-talk' about shuttle, ISS... read it more like: we have problems, gota fix em, to go on...

I wonder if the guy wrote it hiself: it's too good, all the necc. business-talk is in there, but also the 'feeling' that you would not expect from a manager.

I know: there are a lot of high-ranking managers with the right dreams, passions, but you tend to imagine them as penny-pinchers...

Yes, it's very close almost too close tom make a real remark, I've the read the news reports and say its still counting up the votes. So not matter who you vote for Democrat or Republican make sure your vote was gotten,  1-866-OUR-VOTE .
Looks Bush has a slight lead, but Kerry is near and both of them need Ohio.

Citing MoveOn.org to illustrate Fox bias, funny stuff.

I hear Kerry is planning to Concede at 1:00pm. The cynic in me says he knows the totals just aren't close enough to fight, but I'll be gracious and commend him for not dragging the nation into a repeat of 2000.

Bravo John Kerry, I salute you. You may have just saved the Republic.

*He's already officially conceeded to President Bush via telephone.  News on that broke about an hour ago.

At that time, a speech by Kerry was impending in 2-1/2 hours.  Bush is slated to give a speech in the early afternoon, based on what I heard an hour ago (CNN).

It's not "official" until the American people see it on the telescreen.  big_smile

Still, I hold John Kerry in higher esteem today than I have through the entire campaign. In defeat he may have done far more good for this nation than he ever could have done as President. Time will tell.

So we now have a lame-duck President with a Congressional majority and a mandate. His Party is poised to split between Conservatives and over-spending Bush "neo-cons" while the opposition is only going to flip out more in a fit of despair and rage, driving a wedge between reasonable liberals and Leftist kooks. It's going to be interesting.

Nah. . .

They won. Nothing to argue about until 2006 & 2008.

But it is a http://galiel.dailykos.com/story/2004/1 … 44]culture war and the drip, drip, drip, drip of US casualties in Iraq combined with a radical Christian social agenda will either change America's attitudes, or it won't.

As a fringe benefit, I predict no al Qaeda attacks on US soil.

Why? bin Laden is too smart to trump the media stories about the drip, drip, drip, drip of US casualties that will continue to accrue.

= = =

If I were Cobra, I would think about the ending to that Robert Redford movie, The Candidate.

"Now what?"

The flip side of mandate is responsibility to make things work.

On this, I will strongly encourage the "kooky" left to avoid histrionics and give Bush a chance.

After all, as Cobra argues, Bush is a brilliant stategist who will soon end the War on Terror and bring peace and stability to Iraq.

I have high expectations of an Administration given such a strong mandate and control over the levers of government. High expectations.

Now we will see if he can deliver, without blaming Bill Clinton.
