I know you guys probably don't care but i found a link to an interview with Joseph E. Palaia,. Co founder of 4frontier and nad a Vice in Opertations and R&D.
http://www.spacealumni.com/index.php?op … 5&Itemid=9
(17:09 GMT) What do you anticipate will be 4Frontier's primary sources of funding? How about for other future extraterrestrial settlement efforts?
4Frontiers will obtain its initial funding from a mixture of venture capital and private investment. We are making great strides in this area. For now all I can say is that we have raised approximately $1M in investment and… stay tuned!
Of course, even at the end of our 5 year plan, we will still be perhaps a $50M to $100M company. One might ask, how does a company like that settle Mars? My answer is that it is a good question, and one which we are going to continue working hard to solve. We have some ideas, which I won't go into now, but what we do know is that we need to take the initial steps we have outlined in our 5-year business plan. This includes:
* • Expanding our team and having them work full-time on engineering the systems we need.
* • Supporting that team and the management team – via near term activities and revenue streams.
* • Adding capability and building credibility while continuing corporate expansion.
* • Sharing the vision with the public (outreach center and other outreach activities).
* • Seeking strategic partners (academia, corporations, government agencies, and like minded individuals). We hope to have an IPO near the end of our 5 year plan, with the idea being that this will help us generate capital for our next large project.

You missed that and next time write normaly. I hate big coloured letters.
Well the hard and fast limit for anti-matter production is twice the amount of energy it contains, for every particle of anti-matter you create and equal of matter must also be created. I am also dubious about utilising anti-matter to be found in the so called "quantum foam" they don't call these things virtual particles for nothing.
If you want to look for a sci-fi energy solution I think anti-matter is a dead end. What you realy want is some method to directly and toataly convert matter into energy. Figure out how to do this, and you are set.
As for FTL travel I'm afraid it may forever be a pipe dream. No one has every detected a tachyon or any other sort of FTL particle, which is good because of all the nasty causality problems such a particle could generate.
Not necessary. Using Antimatter in a warp engine is a dead end but not antimatter. Matter/Antimatter is the best form of propulsion. Only problem with them is the danger involved and the fact that making them in large quantity is next to impossible.
What happens when there isn't enough sun light? Has far has i know sunlight near pluto is faint.
An object approaching the speed of light needs infinite energy to continue to increase speed. .
Actually the object doesn't move. The It moves the surronding space.
There was only one joke in this thread that made sense and was actually funny. It was the one John made. The rest were painfully bad.
I have the worst luck. In 2003 my Telescope broke so i couldn't even see Mars in detail. Now my Bionocular sucks. I thought 4.5 x 40mm was really good but ended up with one that has a small vewing lens. If that wasn't bad enough. The British weather conspired against me again and became cloudy. You guys in America are lucky. I guess i have to go on a holiday next time Mars comes up.
I also forgot to mention the heatsink of my CPU has snapped of so the manufacturer have taken the Tower to get a new Motherboard. So no PC for few weeks meaning i can't look at the directions for Mars.
I thought the X-Prize Cup was in Oct 2007. Why is it a year early?
Oh sweet jesus you people confuse me. You complain about NASAs slow directionless approach. When alt space companies come along you guys dismiss them (Expect for Elon Musk). Why not give 4Frontier a bit of leniency it's not like we have other options.
It was the Soviet satellite Sputnik that triggered to US to go to the Moon in the first place, and I do not believe that neither Europe nor the US will sit still if China suddenly reach Mars or the Moon. A new space race is what we need, and I wouldn't mind China triggering it.
The Space Race was triggered because the american public felt they should be the first the lowly reds. Now days 99% don't give a shit. And i doubt the Congress will give more money to NASA what with disasters called Iraq and New Orleans sucking up alot of money. Iraq costed $200 billion so far and rebuilding New Orleans may cost more.
I go away and this happens. Maybe i should go more often.
I think we should take the heat of Uranus by calling it Urectum.
Mercury Is to damn hot It is to close to the sun. Going there is sucide. Drop the subject.
This is the best news i have heard in years. This makes getting to Mars more realistic. It also turns out that this companie has ties to The Mars Homestead Project.

I can't write more since my keyboard is messed up.
Build a scramjet bomber, put a terawatt laser in orbit, build the friggin' Death Star if you can, it all adds up to increased space presence and technological capability for our species.
I am generally in favor of improving technology, including military technology, but I draw the line at Death Stars. Anything that can annihilate the human species with a single attack is simply too dangerous to build unless there is no other choice.
I find weapons(e.g. nukes) that kill people without the killer seeing the horror he just did disturbing.
The good thing about thisis it will help with Public support for Mars.
I don't know if this has been posted before.

What would the webcam record? Me reading New Mars? Alright i'll do it since my public want me.
This may sound stupid but why not flood the ozone hole with O3? Just enough to give southern Chile protection from the radiation.
I am not sure but i think a human body would need 10^28 bytes. If each cell was a single byte. I remembered this from "Physics of Star Trek".
Half of Iraqs Oil sits between the Kurdish Capital of Kirkuk and the Northern city of Mosul (the nice one on the Euphrates with the airbases) and this region is majority Kurdish. All they would require is for the nation of Iraq to fail. Turkey would immediatly engage without American approval (putting the USA and Europe in a difficult Position). Russia Comes to the aid of a persecuted people, nukes Istanbul, and secures a corridor of land (eastern Turkey-occupied Kurdistan-but who cares) all the way to the black sea oil ports and gets access to badly needed oil for the russian economy. It provides a situation by which Kurdistan could become a client state of Russia - the way South Korea is a client state of the USA.
If America went to the aid of an 'evil regime' like Turkey, against these Kurdish people, they would have no moral high ground from which to further justify a war on terrorism.
That little expedition would be over. "USA Participates in Kurdish Genocide!" would be on the front page of every Newspaper on the planet.
What makes you think Russia will be involved in this? There army sucks. They are under funded and their tanks are rusting. They wouldn't dare to nuke Turkey for all of thats worth. That will either trigger a nuclear war or a International war against Russia. Since China and Russia are friends they might join making the situation more sticker.
The one country that can not get involved in all of this is Syria. Unfortuntaly part of the so called "Kurdistan" (which is just a dream) lies in there. If the kurds get it in their minds that there so called country can exist they might try to annex parts of Syria which will them fight the kurds. If Israeli keep their nose out then Northen Iraq will be devastated and america can't do anything because it is legal. The kurdish refugee will go to Turkey and south iraq.
The funny thing is that this is Osama Bin Laden's worst nightmares. Muslims fighting each other.
So for the Sunni it is not such a good situation unless they can keep what is currently Iraq together (frankly a made up state).
Half the countries in this world have been made up. Hell no country in Africa existed in their current form before the British came. Syria,Israeli,Saudi Arabia,Pakistan and countless others came to existant because of colonising countries splitting land between each other.
Screw poor people. Most of them mainly in Africa get the largest amount of Aid in the world yet they are still hungry? Why? Because of there stupid greedy government. When they can elect government that doesn't care about "tribes" but the people has a whole then things might change. the only thing rich countries have to do is change the trade laws to make it more fairer for poor countries to trade.
I like to ask you guys two question.
1:Do we actually need to go to the moon? The Mars Society faq doesn't think so.
2: Wouldn't we be better of in the long term if NASA puts all of it's budget into research?
Shaun, let me ask you one thing, where is the precedent for banning someone here? There has been a total of one actual user who has ever been banned from this site, and he was a somewhat paranoid schitzoid spammer who went on and on about his vision of Mars (NovaMarsella iirc). And he only got banned after going on about harrassing the Zubrin's (yes, spammers have been banned before, but they don't count, as they're not actual 'users').
Lol harrass Zubrin? Is that even possible? I saw him on "Mars on Earth" on the Science channle about Mars Society. He looks like the kinda guy who could kick anyone who messed with him. But this guy you talk of sounds funny. I wish i was there to see it.
How about a russian army of mercenaries hired out to the republic of Kurdistan by the nation of Russia? They have air support, and Nuclear weapon support as a last defence option.
I doubt the Kurds can afford to pay mercs. They don't controll any oil wealth to my knowledge. They never had any power. Saddam made sure of that. Besides using nukes is the last thing any kurds want. If Turkey gets nuked worldwide support will go to Turkey. Just like the support jews received creating Israeli after WW2.
This can be stopped if America digs it's pocket and pays Turkey to stop attacking the kurds or it will be cheaper to stop those f*cking idiots who are writing the constitution that will split the country. They are signing there own death.
You never know, it might be interesting to sit on a tank outside Turkey and scream "No Prisoners! No Prisoners!" like Laurence of Arabia as your troops roll toward Istanbul using Russian Armor traded for Kudish oil.
The Oil will be controlled by the shiite. Not the Kurds and the turkish already have an fully trained army. I doubt that kurds with rusting russian tanks be able to get past the turks. If the kurds attack it will give some turks what they always wanted. The opertunity to wipe out all kurds in turkish border.
