#76 Re: Meta New Mars » Captain's Mast » 2021-12-27 02:43:16

WTF is happening here? At least two times I've made the attempt to state or communicate that I'm fine with you guys running things as you see fit. You want me to mouth cock your version of interaction?

Should I and you respect someone who holds that a subset of people be gassed? Should I and you respect someone that holds that a subset of people, based on anything, should be treated indifferently?

You live in Texas. Not everyone that crosses that border is someone we want here. Not everyone that crosses that border isn't someone we should welcome. A fuc*king guy from England doesn't understand the difference. You want to pretend otherwise over the words i choose? Who or what are you defending?

You want me to engage, but you decide what the parameters of engagement are. Fu*k that. You made an offer, thank you, but this bullsh*t reply to goad me is just fuc*king sad.

#77 Re: Not So Free Chat » CDC director warns of a ‘pandemic of the unvaccinated.’ » 2021-12-26 13:56:02

I work at a hospital. The people dying are the unvaccinated. Those stating otherwise are categorically wrong.

If you can accept the science of orbital mechanics and the speed of light you should be able to accept the peer reviewed science behind vaccinations, both in general, and specifically for Covid-19.

#78 Re: Meta New Mars » Captain's Mast » 2021-12-26 13:37:43

I will address your only question since the rest of your lecture leaves little evidence that an alternate view would be heard.

"What parts of maintaining a modicum of civility in public discourse are insufferably wrong?"

Maintaining civility in the face of those who spout hate or express ideas that are anathema to a base level of civilized society is patently absurd.

I am continually amazed at the level of insight and knowledge expressed here when it comes to science and Mars. I am equally horrified when these same wunderkinds then start spouting off on matters not related to science or mars, such as the state of racism, immigration, human rights, vaccination, etc.

If we were in a theater, and I started shouting about politics, I would be roundly, and rightly, yelled at. Yet if the same is done here, in written form, somehow that is sacrosanct? I reject the premise that I must be polite when someone says something impolite, even if said politely.

Anyways, I appreciate the reply. My original point was that the process as outlined isn't needed. I am saying that I trust the admins and moderators to exercise good judgement. If you think I'm worth a ban, so be it.

Thanks for the invite but my mom doesn't let me use electronics after 5pm.

#79 Re: Mars Society International » How's the Society doing right now? » 2021-12-23 02:59:24

"hey, i want to live in a tin can, worry about sucking vacuum, all while i appreciate 14 different shades of red rock."

You ever visit a LARP event? Passionate folks with larger than life nerf arrows.

Mars Society and the kool-aid drinking set don't get it. Colonizing Mars is dumb. It is not an end, but that is how it is billed. Mars is a stepping stone. Mars is a possibility, not a finality.

#80 Re: Meta New Mars » Captain's Mast » 2021-12-23 02:40:11

Yes. Entire threads devoted to me is unfair treatment. Talk of "what do we do with clark" is unfair treatment. Yes I recognize my own role in getting to this place.

I appreciate you kbd512, even if most of your world view is anathema to me. I appreciate you taking on the inglorious responsibility of moderating this site. I appreciate the sentiments, even if they are insufferably wrong, in trying to instill some type of judicial process here.

You are a good person, i think. If you think I cross a line, call me on it. I don't need a vote, which was my point. We don't need to make this bigger than it is.

My previous post was to only outline the absurdity of trying to systematize this situation.

You are a karate chopping gun toting texan, WTF are you doing even asking this kind of question? Thank you for being fair when you didn't have to be.

#81 Re: Not So Free Chat » Clark postings » 2021-12-22 16:08:12

I'm posting in a thread dedicated to my posts for the meta. I feel like i need to start talking about myself in the third person.

#82 Re: Meta New Mars » Captain's Mast » 2021-12-22 16:01:25

Lovely.

To stay on topic and glean what we might from this pitiful farce, you have taken the time tahanson43206 to outline a process to judge and execute the powerless while neglecting to consider a process or structure for those empowered to deliver your so called justice. Shall we all live in thrall to the council of 4? Whom do we prostrate ourselves to in the event of a split decision? Does a Senior Administrator have more discretion than a Junior Administrator? What of the power dynamic of Moderator vs Administrator? Who gets more of a say? Who gets to be more "right"? Who do we turn to if the council of 4 is an offender?

My point: Do us all a collective favor and just burn this thread for the bad idea it really is. If I'm out of line, you don't need to hold a vote or spin some theater to make yourself feel better. Just scold me or put me in time out- just like every other troll.

In my defense, I almost never detract from the topics in the MARS THEMED areas. This place allows a forum for politics and general free chat that runs counter to anything related to the overall purpose of the board. If people are going to take the time to express their views, then we all, collectively, have to expect that replies and reactions will be messy.

Anyways, thanks all for the stay of execution. I appreciate your patience and your forgiveness. We can share the dream of Mars, even if some of us would likely lock the other out on the outside of an airlock if given the chance.

#83 Re: Meta New Mars » Captain's Mast » 2021-12-22 10:12:38

I've been here before. The bagels are great, but man, the line is always out the door.

"Captain's Mast". Lovely imagery. Look at my would be executioners. Look at your process. How very formal. Trappings of fairness. There can't be bias here.

If you gotta ban me, ban me. Your sandbox. You want me to hug it out with closet racists? I ask what is wrong with you.

This is text. Yet somehow with these digital words I've elicited a response. Am I really worth that? I think I am, but then again, I'm an emotional hot mess who clearly needs professional help, as diagnosed by a man-child suffering oppression in the UK because his country couldn't be bothered to have its own revolution (apologies to Guy Fox). But hey, I'm the only one throwing out personal insults, am I right?

In sum, Calliban is sorry for making a stink, doesn't think I should be banned, and I don't give a sh*t either way. Your honors, we await your wise decision. Space me or whatever,

#84 Re: Not So Free Chat » Clark postings » 2021-12-22 09:54:24

Done nothing with the intent of provoking clark he types into a message thread titled "clark postings".

Somehow I am a living embodiment of current state politics in the UK? I'm the one with mental and emotional issues? Since when did American's take advice on the state and fate of democracy from monarch loving boot licking Englishmen? Are we going to learn how to build a better wall from a nation that lived through integrating Ireland?

kbd12, I will post as I always do. I find posts from some disagreeable. Calliban doesn't need your help, unless I am mistaken that the ravings of an emotional nutcase who clearly needs help somehow are a threat to poor, helpless, Calliban.

#85 Re: Not So Free Chat » Clark postings » 2021-12-22 02:20:01

Yes, resist. I appreciate the level of performative theater at play here. Oh yes, let's worry about clark. Clearly he can't be well if he disagrees with my racist bullsh*t. Yes. Let's discuss what to do with clark. Let's test our beliefs in free speech and the testing of ideas when confronted with one that abjectly rejects any semblance that your world view holds any merit.

I'm not ill. I'm not miserable. I'm sad. Sad at the realization that you are the inheritors of Mars. It was a fu*king blank canvas yet somehow the racists and lizard people believers found a home here.

To the rest of you. You dream of Mars for no good reason. Rocks and vacuum. For some it is just a problem to solve, for others it is a place to start over. I don't begrudge you that. For some though, it is a place to paint the worst parts of our shared human history. You suffer it at your own peril.

I know i am not a joy. I don't seek that. You want to ban me because the racist had his feelings hurt, so be it. I'll know better next time I type something in a forum called "free chat". Cheers.

#86 Re: Not So Free Chat » South of the Border Politics » 2021-12-21 02:58:16

child. when you are not busy burning a cross or swastika, what do you do? you took the time to study my posts. you took the time to game me. and you settle on a meaningless political barb to lull me out? You are small. Your views are limited. You are not an American. Your views on immigration are not applicable.

#87 Re: Space Policy » The Outer Space Treaty » 2021-12-21 02:38:21

There is LEO, there is GEO, and there is the Moon. Control of GEO ensures control of LEO, control of the moon ensures control of GEO. Owning the moon owns the gravity well. Why don't you see this?

#88 Re: Not So Free Chat » Current Gasoline/Petrol Price$ » 2021-12-21 02:29:28

Collapse says the 20yr old. Nope. Things will just get expensive. So the 20 yr old has a "collapse", while those in the 40's just take one less vacation. It sucks, but it ain't a collapse. It is a redistribution of wealth.

A collapse hits us all equally. Those higher on the food chain just look at you and smile.

#89 Re: Not So Free Chat » South of the Border Politics » 2021-12-21 02:09:29

I'm an American. Apologies for my countrymen, they are boorish and the result of a failed public education system coupled with poor parenting. As you can see, we have a degree of racism, xenophobia, and just a smattering of general ignorance. I come from a people where less than 5% have a passport. Yes, that's right, you are talking to hillbilly's  with enough sense to type a word but not enough to seek beyond the horizon. To them, the stars, inherit.

Any American with any education knows the failure of our history; any American with any intelligence knows the mistakes of our country, of Rome, of our society, and the lies we would pretend in their place.

I'll leave you to the racist natzi spouting's of Callbian. WTF is wrong with you for even entertaining it you bullsh*t cowards?

Mars is a dream. Some of you allow it it be sick.  F*cking sad.

#90 Re: Not So Free Chat » California Wildfires » 2021-09-04 02:01:11

HAHAHA as a Californian I find the comments here humorous. We are the most populous state. We have an economy that dwarfs the rest of the individual states. We are forward thinking, open, and progressive. We export culture, technology, agriculture, and a promise of a better future. We don’t have everything right, but we have more going for us than not. Stick with TX and wear a burka. Live in FL and die from poor education in science.

Wildfires are largely due to federal failures. We can’t manage what we don’t own. If anyone wants to outline where state land is burning down I’m happy to concede.

Given the current climate issues and the persistent nature and cadence, technology is going to quickly catch up with some solutions simply because there is a dollar to be made.

#91 Re: Civilization and Culture » Drugs... - Yes or No? » 2021-07-31 23:34:56

Pretty sure people will find a way to cut loose. I think the focus should be on how to mitigate potential large scale system or process breakdowns when someone is of unsound mind in a glorified pressurized bomb.

None of you know better than the scientists that study this. none of you know better than the physicians that live this. none of you know better than the infectious disease experts who have spent a lifetime in population health policy. You cretins with your poor education, your limited intellect, and your haphazard approach to basic logic, you represent everything that shows the Mars Society is a mistake.

A colony on Mars with just one of you is enough reason to point out why the idea is untenable.  You are jokes. Sad, sad jokes.

Those with Covid vaccination die at a lower, statistically significant , rate than those that are unvaccinated. Those with covid vaccination, are hospitalized less than those without. Those with covid vaccination are less infectious, based on statistically significant results, than those that are not vaccinated. You have to be a god dam moron to not see any of this with clarity.

Oh, hey mars, where we can all live in an enclosed space, but everyone can kind of just feel themselves out on if they want to get the vaccine for a highly contagious disease. Pathetic are the replies that decide to argue with me.

#93 Re: Not So Free Chat » Election Meddling » 2021-04-03 00:35:35

this is what happens when you educate a bare level of literacy and a low level of critical thinking. I enjoy this mostly because it proves a primal thesis of mine that fucking idiots are the reason why we have apply a layer of laws and regulations to remove independent choice.

Don't believe me? Imagine this fucking conversation on Mars where both parties can space the other. You are all a bunch of twits for even engaging in this.

#94 Re: Not So Free Chat » Politics » 2021-01-13 21:52:00

kbd512,

Thank you for taking the bait- anything that brings the discussion back towards the boundless cosmos seems better suited than such pedestrian conversations around which political party said what, did what, and can't tweet.

You mistake me if you lump me in with the dimwits who rail against space exploration. You misunderstand me if you assume I then must be your brand of crazy thinking that living in a tin can, wrapped in plastic, on a barren planet with no air is a good idea. I've mentioned I've been frequenting this board for 20+ years. Accessing this sh*t before there was a google or a bing. I've been waiting for mid 2030 precisely because 20 years ago the writing was clear as day that this was the likeliest window for humans to mars.  And here we are, having the same conversations that never really ever addressed the primary purpose of the Mars Society, which I found odd, and still do. And here I wait, for someone smarter than I to figure out how exactly people are going to live on Mars.

Like live. Really live. Live in a way that is sustainable. That isn't fragile. That isn't prone to the vagaries of one mad man intent on self destruction, and able to take everyone else with him. If our own shared human history is to judge, the martian colony of tomorrow is highly regulated, little to no privacy, limited personal freedoms, and a high degree (or total) of  social state ownership and oversight. The irony of a pro-independence group pushing for something with this inevitable outcome has been delicious for years.

And before some reply, there is a reason there are no democratic or independent states aboard submarines. One person can kill 200 others on a whim or a desire. And you all want to put children into this scenerio, which, as history shows, human people have a tendency to do a lot of sh*t to keep kids safe, up to and including giving up rights or bestowing more authority and oversight to a larger entity, like a government. Everyone, in effect, is a nuclear armed state. MAD theory works up to a point, but falls apart if every lunatic has a button.

So hooray, we figured out how to get people to Mars so they can visit, but no one has openly talked about the real problem of living there. But the fantasy everyone clings to is cute, if it weren't so misguided and sad.

Calliban, thank you for noticing. You have a propensity to minimize a real problem with unsupported optimism and a faith in as yet unknown technology solving the constraints of known physics. But who am i to argue with bright eyed wonder when I can Amazon Prime the next season. If you liked the show, try the books. Cheers.

#95 Re: Not So Free Chat » Politics » 2021-01-13 16:36:13

oh look, revolution fantasy continues unabated. This time we don't even need a Martian canvas to paint our latest masturbatory masterpiece.

Election wasn't stolen. Some politicians lied. Sh*t got out of hand because American education is terrible at teaching people how to reason.

And now, we privileged few, get to see what brand of crazy associates with this dream that is Mars. Look around. This is the basket case of rejects that all agree that living in a tin can at the bottom of a gravity well in near vacuum is a step in the right direction for the human race. We are the "inspired" that see freedom and liberty on a glorified submarine a million miles from the nearest bucket of free standing water. These are the fools we conspire to draw equations with on orbital dynamics and self sustaining bio-domes.

So give 'em a rocket. Cause only madmen can make sense of it all.

Now off to our bunkers to prepare for a day that will not come.

#96 Re: Not So Free Chat » Memorial to past contributors » 2020-12-16 18:13:18

I've been on Newmars forum since around 1995/1996. The original site was on an older forum platform and we all had to re-register when we moved onto whatever forum version they replaced it with.

Robert,

I was hoping that after former Vice President Biden is elected President, the "mostly peaceful" protesting would stop, but the "mostly peaceful" protesters have stated that they will become "even more peaceful" after he's elected President.  Pay no attention to the leftists attacking the Democrats they voted for or burning down their own cities.

The process simply takes a little bit longer when the vote tallying Democrats have to fill in the ballots for former Vice President Biden.

Here, watch a video of them doing that:

CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Poll Worker Stamping and Filling in Ballots - Delaware County, Pennsylvania

Nothing to see here.  Move along now...

Just wanted to clarify on this. It isn't fraud, and I am guessing that just about every other instance brought forward will be shown in retrospect to not be fraud. There are a lot of hard working, honest citizens, involved in our election process. But I'm sure the replies that will follow will consciously miss the point. Stay safe, be well.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/fac … 185589002/

Video is manipulated, misleading
The viral video is genuine footage from a livestream of ballot counting. However, in some cases the video has been manipulated by zooming in to eliminate surrounding areas.

Adrienne Marofsky, public relations director for Delaware County, Pennsylvania, told USA TODAY that the video crops out bipartisan observers who were not more than 6 feet away.

"The cropped video portrays an election worker, seemingly alone at a table, marking a ballot. The actual video shows the election worker at a table with other coworkers in a room full of people with bipartisan observers a few feet away at each end of the table, closely observing the worker from approximately 6 feet away," Marofsky said in an email.

She said the arrangement was agreed upon between the Election Bureau and the former Republican chairman of Delaware County Council.

Election workers are not committing fraud
What counters in the video are actually doing is fixing damaged ballots.

Marofsky said that during ballot processing, a machine extractor opens the ballots. Some ballots were damaged by the extractor and unable to be scanned successfully, she said.

"According to the scanner manufacturer, Hart, the best practice to deal with damaged ballots that cannot be scanned is to transcribe the votes on each ballot to a clean ballot and scan the clean ballot," she said.

The chief clerk of the Delaware County Bureau of Elections then instructed elections staff to manually transcribe the damaged ballots.

The damaged ballots were directly next to the new ballots, and damaged ballots were preserved while bipartisan observers watched closely, according to Marofsky.

#98 Re: Not So Free Chat » Trump Proposes U.S. ‘Space Force’ to Guard the Galaxy » 2020-11-07 06:54:39

I have an old college buddy who is now in the Space Force. Not that it matters.

Years ago, decades really, I did some research on the Rods from God project the military has explored. It was a 60's concept for a non-nuclear space based kinetic kill vehicles. Project was scrapped as ambition exceeded budget and like all things, price to orbit was prohibitive.

But time has a way of solving some of those value proposition equations. You don't need hypersonic if you have on orbit, on demand, non nuclear nuclear equivalent ordnance with global strike capability in under 20 minutes.

A moon base is just a monitoring and reload logistics center for your on orbit assets in LEO and GEO, mostly as a secondary option in the event your earth based launch and monitoring capability is limited from low atmosphere EMP hits. But once it has gotten to that point, our modern day to day gets reset by 20-40 years depending on the scope of the fire/response. High ground is great military dogma until gravity and high energy particles start to play a role in how collateral damage is calculated. Just sayin, a bunch of egg heads said militarizing space was a bad idea for some very good resons.

Hey @$$holes.

People are out in the fires. Human suffering. Maybe it gets reported as a lot. You are a f*cking dick. read it. say it out loud. then do what you have to do. be a dick. you can figure out how you are  human later.
