#51 Re: Not So Free Chat » CDC director warns of a ‘pandemic of the unvaccinated.’ » 2022-03-03 09:46:13

Cool. I got vaccinated. Boosted too. So did my wife. My kids got vaccinated. No fu*king problems. Our experience is just like the millions of others that took part in the benefits of science.

I fail to understand why people on a board dedicated to Mars colonization are fearful of science. But you are a closeted ignorant racist, so I guess that explains enough. Thanks Calliban.

Great if Cindy wants to skip; i think we can all just assume we understand the collective works of Voltaire

#54 Re: Not So Free Chat » CDC director warns of a ‘pandemic of the unvaccinated.’ » 2022-03-03 01:51:46

So you all accept science and how that works, or you don't. Maybe you are the special group that says science can be ignored when it doesn't jive with your political ideology.

Believe what you want. America today is not grounded in science; opinions or personal beliefs are as just as sacred as f*cking facts. So vaccinations are voodoo. Masks are a sign of oppression. How the f*ck any of you explain how a rocket works is beyond me. You all know better. I'm sure your years of experience with studying virology is paying dividends now. stop being stupid.

#56 Re: Martian Politics and Economy » A Constitution of Mars; Scientocracy » 2022-03-03 01:36:50

Dear 2017, thank you for allowing dumb suggestions. "Scientocracy" deserves a vacuum death.

#57 Re: Not So Free Chat » Putin's Russian expanding to be the old USSR » 2022-03-03 01:25:25

Today I helped get medical supplies to Ukraine. What did any of you do?

Pick a side. Do something.

#58 Re: Martian Chronicles » Let's build a hard sci-fi space opera setting! » 2022-03-03 01:20:26

I'm only slightly insulted that you think you know people like me. If originality hadn't died with Warhol, I would be in tears.

Before you reply, look up irony.

Anyways, science fiction isn't really considered literature because, like fantasy, the environment is entirely made up. Author is God, and you can wave a magic f*cking wand and just say this is how the universe works. Not saying I agree, but I do think there is a valid point.

Hard SF at least tries to apply the rules of our universe to the story, but the problem still is that we are all imagining how we might experience the human condition in the environment never experienced by human beings. It is contrived.

Anyways, my prior statement stands. Characters matter, a sunset or a mountain range never made a story someone wanted to read.

#59 Re: Martian Chronicles » Let's build a hard sci-fi space opera setting! » 2022-01-28 01:37:31

Science fiction bozos think environment is key, but no, it's character. People make the world go round. You think otherwise, f@ck off.

#62 Re: Not So Free Chat » CDC director warns of a ‘pandemic of the unvaccinated.’ » 2022-01-28 01:13:55

So we accept science on colonization of mars, but reject science on a disease that is transmutable.

You are fuc*king idiots.  Morons look at relevant data and say it doesn't apply. You are a moron.

You are gibberish KBD. you are sad. WTF is wrong with you? louis is in your camp. Do you understand what that implies? Politics has been inserted into what should be a scientific argument, but here we are with scientific leaning folks who make the poor mistake of playing politics. You are better than this, KBD (louis is probably not). Be better..

#63 Re: Not So Free Chat » CDC director warns of a ‘pandemic of the unvaccinated.’ » 2022-01-02 02:28:15

I enjoy this because it is insightful on the human condition in relation to a future mars colonization effort. Look at us, daggers out, trying to deal with a pandemic. The future ain't bright if this is what we are working with in an enclosed metal can surrounded by vacuum and dependent on a regular logistical supply chain.

You can solve the science, but you can't solve the people.

#64 Re: Not So Free Chat » CDC director warns of a ‘pandemic of the unvaccinated.’ » 2022-01-01 04:00:21

I reply against my better judgement because, kbd, you seem consigned to reality.

"No, but the umbrella manufacturers would never be permitted to claim that their products prevent anyone from getting wet,"

No vaccine manufacturer claims this. No scientists that reviewed the clinical studies claims this.  Vaccination decreases odds of getting covid. Which you know.

"How many young healthy adults have died from COVID in your hospital versus old and fat people?"

Approximately One-third. One out of three.

"It sounds to me like you're relaying evidence that the vaccines have not done a good job of protecting your staff from COVID.  That's not good news.  Maybe it's time for your doctors to learn that prevention, however important, is merely a single aspect of medicine? "

"my doctors" are trying to save lives. Just like the nurses. We took the vaccine in the hopes we could be protected. For a time we were. But now it's a fu*king fire burning the forest down. Myself and my family will be fine, because I'm in healthcare, but the rest of you are fu*ked. I can get a bed if I need to, you jerks are going to stand in line. Why do none of you see this?

"This is nothing like coercion used to evacuate people from a burning building.  We know with 100% certainty that 100% of the people who remain in a burning building will die there.  We know from historical evidence that 97% of COVID victims survive their ordeal while the other 3% who die generally fall into a category of people who are either so compromised by other illnesses or so old that almost any serious illness would kill them.  We're coercing 97% of people to act in a way that might save the other 3%, or it might not, because anybody who claims they know what will happen 10 years from now to those who are vaccinated versus unvaccinated is a big fat liar."

So 3%, of 300 million, being 9 million, we should just say what the fuc* whatever?

"The real question is whether or not governments have the power to coerce people into participating in a pharmaceutical company's medical experiment with a vaccine after another company created a designer virus in a lab and then released it into the wild due to negligence.  I voluntarily participated in the vaccination experiment because of China's designer virus experiment, which I was involuntarily subjected to.  I can understand if others don't want to participate, but I still think it's foolish not to take the vaccine after a lab engineered super virus has been spread into the wild by a bunch of filthy communists.  Are scientists allowed to set occupied buildings on fire so that their peers are then allowed to test new fire retardant agents to put out Screaming Alphas?  That seems like an egregiously bad idea to me, although I never claim to be an expert."

The real question is what level of lizard people you should be followed under.

#65 Re: Not So Free Chat » CDC director warns of a ‘pandemic of the unvaccinated.’ » 2021-12-31 04:14:50

I shared, and I am sorry. I have a front line view, so reject me or embrace as you deem fit. People are dying. More than usual. It's not a conspiracy as far as I can tell, sitting here with a front row seat. It's not a fat disease. It's also not an old person disease. Yeah, you are fat and old the numbers are not good, but this fu*king thing is killing 30'yr olds. Pause on that for a moment. Otherwise healthy 30'yr old's are dead. Even if you want to distract with statistics, the reality is that our collective health care system will be inundated with fat or old people, meaning that you will not have a health system to save you when you need it.

We are not told to "triage", we triage based on the god damned reality. No one ordered me to do this. What you all fail to realize is that your blindness comes at a cost. Good luck all of you.

#66 Re: Meta New Mars » Captain's Mast » 2021-12-30 15:26:52

I get your point, but my mind always wanders with binary statements like "destructive behavior does nothing useful for self or society". Is this true? Boxing as a sport is destructive, but is enjoyed by society. Demolition experts routinely destroy buildings so new ones can be created, or dangerous ones removed from causing future harm. We euthanize animals and people, with the death penalty ostensibly to make society safer. We have tortured people to gain information to prevent future or greater harm. We have waged war for a greater good.

So, what I am saying, is that destructive behavior does have uses, or at least given enough context, it can.

The higher one goes in leadership, what you personally want is always relevant, however it is tempered by the need to meet the needs of those above and below you, unless of course you are an autocratic jerk. At least that's been my personal experience.

#67 Re: Not So Free Chat » Clark postings » 2021-12-30 15:18:03

An Englishman lecturing an American on American history, and taking hereditary credit for American democracy. Brilliant. "Thanks gunvn'a". I'll just review a couple hundred years of post-colonialist history and attribute slavery, genocide, and every other form of atrocity to the English if this is how you want to take credit. I wonder how the Irish and Scots view your "concern for ethnic homeland"? And which ethnic ice age stock do you hale from by the way? Saxon, Norman, French, German, Roman, Viking? Should we just settle on being transparent and state out loud what you really mean? You are a white anglo-saxon man who speaks english and is concerned that people that don't look like you or talk like you are increasing in numbers and you feel personally threatened because they don't look like you and they don't talk like you.

I understand the word bigotry in word and deed, and am merely pointing out your own. If this offends you, take an opportunity to self reflect and either accept what you are or work on changing your way of thinking.

Thanks for evaluating my contribution to this board. Your opinion matters here as much as it does in the north of England. Cheerio and pip-pip!

#68 Re: Not So Free Chat » CDC director warns of a ‘pandemic of the unvaccinated.’ » 2021-12-30 13:31:54

kbd, if you use an umbrella in the rain, would you be surprised if you still got a little wet? Vaccinations reduce the opportunity for the virus to replicate. You want to eradicate it, like polio, then we need near universal immunization.

And contrary to the narrative that only fat or old people are at risk, this disease is killing healthy young adults. People in their 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's. Saying "i got it, and I'm fine, no big deal" is a bit like saying you got cancer and are fine so wtf is all the fuss. My hospital, we are all vaxed and boosted, but are suffering a staffing shortage due to covid- we are now taking triage measures and altering our operations. We are a level 1 trauma center. This is a place that handles mass casualty events.

The issue that largely gets ignored here is that you may survive covid, but a large percentage require hospitalization. Where are you going to go when you have chest pains and all the hospitals are full with covid patients? Do you know what it is like to talk about adjusting triage protocols for deciding on how we ration care for adults and children?

The risks with any of the vaccine are significantly smaller than what covid represents. Orders of magnitude smaller.  And yes, people are being coerced to take the vaccine- this isn't done often and it isn't done lightly. If a neighborhood is in flames and we order people to evacuate, we cooerce those who want to sit in their burning house. This is the same damn thing.

#69 Re: Not So Free Chat » CDC director warns of a ‘pandemic of the unvaccinated.’ » 2021-12-30 02:52:33

Thanks SpaceNut.

If you have the opportunity, get vaccinated. If you have the option, get the booster. If you have neither, limit your contact and soap like an OCD nut job. If you are vaccinated, even with booster, you are at risk. You won't die (likely), but it will suck. This will be your worst flu. This variant is worse than any prior in terms of infection. If you are not vaccinated, good luck on you dice roll.

#70 Re: Not So Free Chat » Fixing Americas car industry » 2021-12-30 02:43:53

So if the government banned all sales of lead based paint, that would be a bad thing? How about they ban the sale of asbestos as a part of construction in schools? How would we feel if the government passed a law that stated we couldn't install lead pipes in the city water system?

You can take different positions on the matter of combustion engine vehicles, but the premise that rights are abridged is disingenuous. But hey, smoke that cigarette on an airplane. I'm sure everyone around you doesn't mind. OR. We achieve these changes in behavior after years of experience and science tell us, collectively, that this is a better way forward.

Don't worry, lot's of people still love the Amish. You will be in good company.

#71 Re: Not So Free Chat » Clark postings » 2021-12-30 02:30:31

Hi Robert, thanks for the reply.

Skin color doesn't matter here, but how we look and are categorized does matter, your own life outline only reinforces this point. You dealt with bigotry growing up. So did I. What should the appropriate response be when we see someone push or advocate for bigotry?

I've never claimed to live in the UK. I'm US. I'm West Coast. I've travelled to the UK, Europe, Mexico, China, Japan, India, and several other spots in-between. I've lived east coast. I've travelled the US. Put me in whatever bucket you need to,.

Robert, you are one of the few here that deserves the dream that is Mars. You are insightful. You are considerate. Time and time again I have seen you take an idea and improve upon it, not out of ego, but simply to add a level of insight that was missing. You have always impressed me.

I'm sorry you don't have more partners worth your time.

#72 Re: Meta New Mars » Captain's Mast » 2021-12-30 02:10:58

I too follow orders. A sentence rich in steeped history.

The owners are at best dis-interested dead beat dads. Good for a payment now and then, maybe an occasional life lesson of general value, but the eyes always belie the truth, resentment of mistakes made and a societal expectation they burden under.

Thanks, once again, for doing the interminable. I recognize your role and function. I lay no blame at your feet.

I feel for you in trying to maintain basic human respect here given the penchant for outright racist comments made from afar, made in polite, civil, terms. I am unconstrained as you are, so will navigate accordingly.

#73 Re: Not So Free Chat » Clark postings » 2021-12-29 04:05:45

Not sure there was ever an agreement hoss. Hey Caliban, I'm your minority freak that is the reason your world is crumbling, until I hear you say that my skin color doesn't matter, you are a wanker. Not sure where life got you unsorted. I'm here for Mars. You want to dream it, dream it, You want to remake your sad life in a better way, so be it, but if you call out life here on earth, well, do so in a less obvious racist way. Otherwise I'm just going to making a god damn stink and all the other people around us will feel awkward.

kbd12, hope the wife is doing better. happy new year.

#74 Re: Meta New Mars » Captain's Mast » 2021-12-29 03:54:09

so be it. your mars will b e splendid in the imagination of  trolls. i will tack into the wind.

#75 Re: Not So Free Chat » Clark postings » 2021-12-27 03:00:36

I'll get personal. I grew up in white America suburbia. I don't know how you lived. I'm a mixed race half breed who, lucky for skin color, can blend in, I get a tan, I get pulled over, and i get the extra TSA check. But otherwise, I'm a white guy American who was out in the sun a little longer than is healthy.

I'm third generation, which means my immigrant grandfather is either a problem or a story of success. My father endured bigotry not because of race (he was white) but because of religion. My family, fathers side, rejects me because I'm not fully white. The fuc*king irony is sweet and deep.

Calliban, i feel for you. But you fuk*ing toss, the problems you face are not racial. The brown people around you are not the problem. I am not the problem. You want to pretend otherwise, well, you are dumber than I thought. poor people without options are the problem. Fix that you fuc*ing wanker.
