One of the worst data breaches in history just got even worse

On August 6, Fenice posted the data affecting 2.9 billion personal records and claimed that a distinct hacker named SXUL, not USDoD, caused the breach.

NASA Report Reveals Boeing’s Use of Underqualified Workers Contribute To Flurry Of Problems

A new NASA report has uncovered that Boeing's reliance on underqualified workers for its Space Launch System (SLS) project has led to significant quality control issues, contributing to delays and increased costs. The SLS, designed to return astronauts to the moon, is now projected to cost $5.7 billion, exceeding its allocated budget by $700 million, and its upper stage is six years behind schedule.

NASA's Office of Inspector General report highlighted the lack of "trained and experienced aerospace workers" as a major factor in construction delays. It also pointed out "significant quality control deficiencies" at Boeing's Michoud Assembly Facility, despite its attempts to provide in-house training.

Boeing's Starliner spacecraft encountered helium leaks and malfunctions in its reaction control system in June, leaving two NASA astronauts stranded on the International Space Station (ISS).

If NASA determines that the docked Starliner capsule is not safe for reentry, the astronauts may have to remain on the ISS until 2025. This situation could lead NASA to adjust a scheduled SpaceX flight in September, potentially removing two astronauts to accommodate the stranded crew members for their return to Earth.

I printed the picture of the air dragster, in post 3 and a coworker commented on see it on my wall. Now only to find parts for making something like it to see how to build from what I can salvage.

Success tonight at getting wood materials from a shop that sells scooters, moped, trail bikes. The wood is unfinish board of a variety of widths, thickness and lengths.

I hauled my loot in the Volvo wagon about half full once the back seats were dropped to open up the back. Had to tie the back hatch closed as the length just extended past the bumper by a foot. The wood forms a carrier pallet made with a mix of wood but has a qty of 2 full length 2"x 3" x 8' long that once I have enough of them to make walls with.

Good part is I, can have all that I want of these. The makeshift crate is enclosed by cardboard that staples the rough cut 3' tall pieces that are 3" x 1 1/4" thick.

There are still other places to go and see if they will part with what they have as well.

Well, I am not sure what to make of the sticking a fork in a means to achieve his goal. At one time the stake was in the Falcon 9 heavy being made use of for the moon but that has yet to happen and may not if starship heavy gets fully functional.
Of course, we here at newmars have analyzed the many issues of a fully oiled machine but it's got many fatal flaws to overcome for mars.

It appears that Nasa is running a human experiment for real untrained civilians' micro gravity the longer that they stay.

Saw news that the next crewed dragon is so far with just 2 seats being occupied.

Boeing never needed to compete of money until space x came onboard as the delta family is quite stable just pricy.
The end of the contract to perform has come due and they will be heads to roll for the failure.

GoSun's rooftop solar charger adds 30 miles to EV's range dailyBB1r6voF.img?w=800&h=435&q=60&m=2&f=jpg

A 70-lb (32-kg) box, measuring only 5 inches (12.7 cm) in height, sits atop the vehicle much like a rooftop cargo carrier.  What sets it apart is the 200 watts of solar panels integrated into its roof, allowing for a continuous trickle charge while the vehicle is in motion.

This ingenious design amplifies the total solar output to an impressive 1,200 watts, significantly boosting the charging capacity.

A 120-V output cable plugs directly into the car’s charging port, providing Level 1 charging straight from the sun. GoSun has engineered the panels to withstand winds up to 30 mph (50 km/h), ensuring reliable performance even in challenging weather conditions. The closed box is also designed to handle highway speeds of up to 100 mph (160 km/h).

Under optimal sunlight conditions, it can provide up to 30 miles (50 km) of range per day.  In more typical scenarios, EV owners can expect to gain between 10 to 20 miles (16 to 32 km) of range daily.

The GoSun EV Solar Charger is currently available for pre-order on the company’s website, with an estimated retail price of $2,999. GoSun has indicated that pre-assembled units will begin shipping to customers in 2025. The installation process is designed to be user-friendly, taking only about 20 minutes to complete.

Seems interesting but slightly more than I think it should cost.

World’s first 18650 Potassium-ion battery debuts, can replace lithium cells

An 18650 potassium-ion battery represents a category of rechargeable batteries that employs potassium ions as the charge carrier, in contrast to the more prevalent lithium ions.

This type of battery possesses the same form factor as the commonly utilized 18650 lithium-ion battery, with a diameter of 18 mm and a length of 65 mm.

The battery operates at a nominal voltage of 3.7V, thus guaranteeing compatibility with contemporary electronic devices and systems.

Moreover, it has exhibited a clear trajectory toward achieving a gravimetric energy density of 160-180Wh/kg, which is on par with lithium iron phosphate lithium-ion batteries (LFP-LIB).

It can be a compelling substitute for both lithium-ion batteries based on LiFePO4 (LFP) and sodium-ion batteries (NIBs), which have encountered difficulties related to cost and effectiveness.

Have gotten a few but some of the places have indicated that they have other methods or promised them to others already. Will continue to observe places and inquire to see if they can be gotten.

Yes heat pumps make heat or cold mostly with air to air systems at the expense of the electrical energy. The few that do a stable table really are not changing much other than efficiency of temperature for the compression and cooling cycles of the heat pump.

What I was talking about was storing the raw heat from the hot surface for later use.

At this rate of cancellation and underfunding we are not going to be getting any samples back in the next decade.

Ground level working fluids will mean an antifreeze as to not freeze and that means you will need to keep any leaks out of the ground water unless using food grade. I am thinking that Pex tubing will be a possible pipe material to use under the asphalt surfaces.

#320 Re: Unmanned probes » VIPER Lunar Rover to Map Water Ice » 2024-07-28 14:23:13

Opinion: NASA’s VIPER cancellation is more than a disappointment, it’s a scandal

Ars Technica notes some of the causes of VIPER’s cost increases, including supply chain problems, schedule slippages and a need to further test the Griffin lander to ensure that it will reach the lunar surface. NASA has spent $433 million on the project and has built the lander.
To get it on the lunar surface and operating, the space agency will need an additional $176 million, bringing the total cost to $609 million. Rather than try to find the additional money in its current budget, affecting other programs, the space agency has thrown in the towel.

Because ramping down the VIPER mission will cost money, NASA will only save $84 million by canceling it. The space agency is canceling a vital mission to prospect for water ice on the moon to save under $100 million. Ironically, VIPER recently passed initial environmental tests.

How can VIPER be saved? NASA has stated that if no way is found to come up with the $84 million by Aug. 1, the lunar rover will be broken up and its instruments distributed to other missions, as yet undefined.

not going to the moon to stay without water being harvested.

VCCTs are much shorter at only 23 feet tall, instead of nearly 400 feet, so they won’t disturb the natural landscape.

We knew that plants were not the only source and until now we did not have the proof. 'Dark oxygen' discovery: Study finds lumps of metal producing 'dark oxygen' on ocean floor

d41586-024-02393-7_27374152.jpg?as=webp

In science class, kids learn that plants need sunlight to do photosynthesis and create the oxygen we breathe. But, oxygen is being produced on the abyssal seafloor, which is so deep that sunlight cannot reach it, according to a study published on Monday in the journal Nature Geoscience.

oxygen is created by metallic “nodules” that look like lumps of coal. But, instead of heating a grill, they’re splitting H2O (water) molecules into hydrogen and oxygen.

The phenomenon was first observed in 2013, when the lead scientist of the study, Andrew Sweetman, a professor at the Scottish Association for Marine Science, was studying the Clarion-Clipperton Zone, an area in the Pacific Ocean between Mexico and Hawaii. He believed his equipment was faulty when it showed that oxygen was being made on the dark sea floor, reports CNN.

Without the panel information I can only say that the input voltage is below 25Volts and that is why the convertor does not output anything. As for saving the batteries of the Powerwall that means not enough power is going out of the system to the grid as to why its ac voltage is so high.

#325 Re: Home improvements » Operating a home on thermal storage » 2024-07-24 19:40:33

Most electrical items require a startup surge current and that is a problem when looking at just the average run power requirement.

A typical size of a hot water tank is 80 gallons for a small family and while you can do with a 40 gallon single the extra hot water comes in handy.

80 gallons is just over 300 liters.
