in the second half of this year China will launch its first lunar orbiter, the Chang'e-I:
http://www.moondaily.com/reports/First_ … d_999.html
it would be interesting to have further data about the MAX OPTICAL RESOLUTION of the digital cameras aboard the probe to know if the China's lunar orbiter could put (soon) the END-word on the Apollo missions' Cospiracy Theories showing us hi-res images of the Apollo landing sites

*Snorts* You can't "convince" a Moon Landing "Truther" no matter what evidence you produce, they will just claim the Chinese pictures are doctored and continue to "question" and disbelieve.
"Trutherism" about the Moon landings, JFK's assassination, 9/11 WTC attack etc etc are signs of mental illness and an uncontrollable urge to escape reality through fantasy.
Furthermore when someone utters "but I am just asking questions, there is nothing wrong with questions" is a dead giveaway of "Trutherism," questioning what is obvious is looking for an excuse to abandon reality. These people deserve ridicule, social punishment, and even treatment.
Its totally irrational, and no proof nor evidence will ever convince a "Truther," because they aren't honestly looking for an answer at all, but rather for an "out" to escape reality.

Chinese pictures
it should be easier to believe since China is an US' challenger in space, commerce, science, etc.

If people don't want to believe NASA went to the Moon then nothing can stop these tinfoil hat crackpots.
Take for the face on Mars conspiracy, crackpots said it was proof of an alien city living on Mars.
Later spacecraft from NASA and ESA looked at the face up close, Mars Express took multiple images from different angles, allowing a 3D perspective image to be built and it turns out the face is nothing more than an odd shapped rock.
http://www.universetoday.com/2006/09/21 … e-on-mars/
This time the conspiracy crackpots came up with an even better new excuse saying how NASA must have NUKED the face to cover up the evidence of aliens

I don't agree ...there are three "kind" of peoples when talking of the Apollo missions:
1. a "big minority" (maybe, around 40%) that BELIEVE in the Apollo landings
2. a "small minority" of fanatics and cospiracy theorist (a few %) that don't believe (and will NEVER believe!) that happened
3. a "big majority" of skeptics that have doubts and are not sure to believe or not but (simply) want futher evidences taken with modern technologies and (best) from a "third source" (maybe... from China...)

to-day I've started this thread on Google forums:
http://groups.google.com/group/sci.spac … 77619dc522
"VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR THE Google HEADQUARTER: ask China to BUY their lunar orbiter HI-RES Moon images to build/offer a GoogleEarth-like service, so, EVERYBODY in the world would be able (SOON) to explore IN DETAIL the Moon surface on the web with his own computer!"
just imagine if "NEXT YEAR" (not in 2020) "WE" (yes, "WE") will be able to EXPLORE the Moon surface on internet from our home/office/school/lab/notebook/palmtop/etc. !!!
what do you think about?

These so called "google forums" are actually just a portal to Usenet. Much as I love google, they are not actually responsible for usenet, which predates them by several decades. Google dose provide a very nice archive and portal however.

As to the question at hand, I agree with GCRN. People who disbelieve in the moon landings, despite, quite literally, mountains of evidence to the contrary are not going to be convinced no matter what new evidence you present. In fact, for people like this, being caught absurdly wrong on such an issue, generally only pushes them further into there delusions (for a humorous example, reference a certain ISA guy that show up here every now and then).
As for your assumptions on the majority of people being skeptical about the moon landings, you are in fact quite wrong. A gallup poll showed quite the opposite. An overwhelming majority (~90%) believe the moon landings did occur. Of course, for a true conspiracy theorist, this is no problem as gallup is just in on the conspiracy.

Though I agree that some new photos of the landing sights would be nice, I doubt the Chinese probe will have high enough resolution. The landers themselves are rather small and would be difficult to see with the much bigger satellites we have in orbit here around Earth.

No! There are not three kinds, there are but two, the people who accept reality and those that object to it. Being "skeptical" and "asking questions" is merely a frail excuse to justify being a "Truther."
Doubts about the obvious IS "Trutherism," you either accept what is real or you do not, you cannot "sit on the fence" with this, you either do or you do not.

I think that have some new (higher-res/better-colors) pictures is not bad

Most of this group wouldn't believe it if they were there and could touch it. Press them on it. Ask them why the Apollo 1 astronauts died if the whole thing was a conspiracy. Most will tell you these guys were just hid away somewhere and lived out fine happy lives. Ask them why it was necessary to fake three deaths in a test, and how come no one there when it happened ever admitted the deaths were faked. They won't have any real answer, but they'll continue to believe it was faked. I wish it weren't so, but there is a sizable portion of people out there who want it to have been faked.
There are still folks out there who genuinely believe the earth is flat, and this is due to a desire for it to be that way not because they've never been told better. Simply watching a ship disappear over the horizon should prove this isn't so, but they'll choose to disbelieve their own eyes than admit the earht is a sphere.

It would be cool to have a Google Moon type thing though, but it'd be hard to get funding though. Of course if everyone really does go through with their planned moon missions in the near future you might might be able to charge a subscription to watch the folks up there move around on the surface if you could do it real time. A launch or a descent would probably be really cool to watch from orbit too.

Well something like that does infact exists. Check out Google moon.
Again, I totally agree that higher res imagery of the moon would be great. I just doubt the Chinese probe is going to carry cameras strong enough to get it.[/url]
