Re: New Mars Gone

Heh, yes.

Probably just the subscription to the service that ran out, in the middle of the holiday-season, so it took a little while before people responsible for the payments were aware about it? Some of these providers have the irritating habit not to send any notice that payment is due, and just shut down your stuff. Seen that happening before on other sites....

I'm wondering how much panicky or puzzled emails Maggie got...

Thanky you Mars Society for providing this service. Especially because it is such a free forum (I mean: no Society appointed admins dictating you to toe the line. Free speech is a wonderful thing...)

Re: New Mars Gone

Hehe, Adrian takes care of that... I load the site daily and when I saw it had expired I let him know immediately. It took a few days for things to get straightened out because he had to contact the person who actually owned the domain. It's all sorted now, though, should be good for oh... another few years. big_smile

Re: New Mars Gone

On second thought I do have them still, just backed up, after I do some more modifications I'll see about bringing them back, but no promises.

(The functionality is still there, just I had to go with a fresh database and I didn't know which SQL entry was the topic descriptions. Turns out the database was a lot dirter (in 2+ years of use plus 5 years of previous Ikonboard database) than I imagined.

Re: New Mars Gone

Yes please if possible. Many of the descriptions contain useful search keywords .. for example "stardust" - now search won't find the topic sad

Re: New Mars Gone

There you go. tongue

PITA. Some guy on #mysql was such a prick. Couldn't get my question "phrased properly" and he was being very pedantic about it, saying I cannot even forumlate a question properly. Hello? If you don't know how to do SQL then how can you be expected to explain your problem? I then went and read the whole mysql manual until I found the appropriate querys to do.

Yes I know the text is bold (and I don't think it was before; and in fact I think I modified the template to make it not bold). I'll fix it, promise! smile

Re: New Mars Gone

Well, it appears that I am either banned, or have some form of karmic justice visited upon me by the SQL gods that be.

As you can see, the resourceful freak that I am, I have managed to break through the consistent error message listed below via some alternative methods.

So perhaps I am not banned and this is merely a case of our part time SQL super hero needing to hit the books again!

Symptoms: From IE via my standard ip connection addy, i receive the error listed below. Occasionally I am able to connect to the forum page, but the images will not load, and then a click on any link within the forum leads to the error.

I am able to reproduce the error using IE from several different PC's, several different IP addy's (but the usual ip addys).

I am not able to reproduce the error by connecting via a proxy web server using IE.

I am not able to reproduce the error when connecting via FireFox using my standard IP addy connection, no proxy.

So, resident genius, what did you do that would break IE? Or am I special?

If another moderator other than Josh reads this, you may want to review with him.

Cheers.

Re: New Mars Gone

I do not get this error at all. Did you guys clear your cookies? This may be an IE only related bug.

(And yes I tried IE, Firefox, all the browsers, and didn't get the error.)

What versions of the web browsers are you gentlemen running?

Re: New Mars Gone

I am connecting via an old laptop and am unable to replicate the error in ie.

guess this might be an ie version error. What version *should* we be running?

Re: New Mars Gone

It shouldn't matter, do you have any weird plugins installed? Are you connecting to https:// ? We don't have SSL on the server, and when I looked up phpBB and this error that could be a contributing factor. I'll try it on IE 7 later on and see if I can replicate the issue. What version *are* you running? I'm sure it can be fixed, maybe do a flush of the cookies. There is a script that can take care of this, potentially, but I don't want to install it if it's on your end.

Re: New Mars Gone

I have the latest version of Firefox, but IE is version 6 I think for me. The weird thing is I have been having problems loading up any pages I look for on the internet this past few days. Also Josh can you let me know what program you are using to get rid of the spam members? I'm an admin at Red Colony and MarsDrive and its getting highly frustrating with the level of spam that comes in daily.

Re: New Mars Gone

Hey Marsman, I haven't been to RedColony in forever! Good site. smile

I use the Advanced Anti-Spam Control Panel: http://www.lithiumstudios.org/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=25

It's super cool when all of the features re enabled (just try registering and looking at the anti-spam captcha, really hard to get through even for actual people). smile

Best thing to do is use EasyMod to install it ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/easymod/ ), if you're up to date with the latest phpBB everything works out of the box, flawlessly.

Anyway, I'll try the Auto-Cookies mod later on tonight, right now I gotta get something to eat. If things start working for you guys, that fixed the problem.
