I've had an idea: put a (small) Bigelow module on a (resized) Orion:
http://www.gaetanomarano.it/articles/01 … Orion.html
What do you think about my "BigelowOrion"?

Um...what the...?
Based purely on apperance I must frankly say it looks like a bastard son of Soyuz.
I don't think Orion could be refitted like that, but once Bigelow's modules are proven with human occupants it wouldn't be a bad idea to save space and, somewhat fittingly, make space more comfortable. It is certainly a good idea for space tourists and whatever spacecraft that picks up from CEVs legacy.

...son of Soyuz...
I've said in my article that it looks like a Soyuz, but lighter (less weight per volume)
...once Bigelow's modules are proven with human occupants...
if safe for humans... the best application is a larger LSAM's habitat-module side

An even better idea. No restraints by an aeroshell/heatshield and no need to deflate for storage...save perhaps inspection if long-term but even then inflated may prove better.

Since the BigelowOrion may appears "too complex" to build and operate, I've added an ANIMATION (in the same webpage) that clearly shows how SIMPLE it may be and work and that its habitable space can be THREE TIMES bigger than a capsule!
Also (if safe) it can be used open at reentry (as an "aerobrake") to have less "G" for the astronauts!

I can only agree with the Andrew Space (4.6 m. Command Module + Mission Module) Olympus Commercial Orbital Transportation System since it looks VERY CLOSE to my (4.5 m. Reentry Module + INFLATABLE Orbital Module) "BigelowOrion" suggested in my Jan. 14, 2007 article ...however, the INFLATABLE Orbital Module is a better choice since it can be BIGGER, its weight may be a FRACTION of a solid module (that's very important to have more payload) and its price will be very competitive, so, it can be added in EVERY mission!
Also, I agree with the choice to build it as "FedEx carrier" as suggested in the point #7 of my "Empirical Law of Private Space Industry" article

With respect: I find if I copy and past your stuff in black & white, and get rid of the bold-face and uppercase type, it permits me to read it straight and interpret your content better. A hint only, from one who learned long ago not to over emphasize points just thought-of but which may already be obvious to the reader.

you're right (and I will try to limit them) but I (simply) use in my posts (part of) the "pop-art" style of my website's articles... maybe, some don't like it, but I've used this style many months ago (before post here)

No big problem. Your stuff is original, informative, and useful, in my opinion, but if you write BIG too often ... when something BIGGER comes along, who's to notice?

to-day I've updated my newLAS article with a further good idea: use the Orion's attitude control jets reversed as underside-LAS attitude control system
that choice further reduce the newLAS total mass to only 2 mT (for a standard-Orion) or only 1.7 mT for my TBS-Orion

look at these SIX amazing 3-D images (to see with RED-BLUE glasses) of the Moon soil/rocks published on the Popular Science website:
http://www.popsci.com/popsci/aviationsp … drcrd.html
the pictures are the only TRUE stereoscopic images ever made of the Moon!
they were taken by the Apollo 11, 12 and 14 astronauts using a close-range (six-inch) stereo camera designed by Tommy Gold (a Cornell University space scientist)
to best view all 3-D images, see them at two/three feet of distance from computer's screen, with low room's lights and the browser in Full Screen mode (press F11 key)
.
.
if you want to see FOUR other amazing (and UNIQUE in the world) 3-D images about SPACE click here:
http://www.gaetanomarano.it/articles/002shuttle3D.html
the images are about the Space Shuttle Discovery, a Lunar Space Station, a Spacewalk and an Apollo astronaut's jump on the Moon
.
.
last but not least, don't miss these NINE (professional-made) 3-D images from the Sports Illustrated swimsuit's website:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/featur … _3d_1.html
in my opinion the MOST AMAZING of the nine images is the picture #9 here:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/featur … _3d_9.html
if you look the image in the RIGHT position and WAIT a moment, the girl seems you completely OUTSIDE the screen!

Can someone please delete this thread? Its devolved into an echo chamber advertising pictures of half-naked women.

"THE ENTIRE THREAD"??? ...not (only) the post, or, maybe, the Sports Illustrated links???
do you actually hate women or (just) my BigelowOrion? ...or my FULL ideas/opinions/posts about space...
...advertising pictures...
S.I. is (probably) 10 orders of magnitude bigger than me and (like Boeing, LM and other BIG companies often cited here) clearly doesn't need any "advertising" ...the S.I. images was posted to show the quality to-day's professional 3-D images have reached (so, we can imagine the applications with all future manned and robotic space/moon/mars missions)
however, these are other amazing 3-D images (NO women GCNR):
3-D Moon images: http://starryskies.com/The_sky/event...03/3dmoon.html
and this is the best of them: http://starryskies.com/The_sky/event...o11.rocks.html

non-3D Moon images: http://www.lpod.org/LPOD-2004-10-02.htm
(unfortunately, I've not found on that site the quoted "October, 2nd 2004 Lunar [3-D] picture of the day")
Spirit and Opportunity Mars 3-D images NASA website entry page: http://marsrovers.nasa.gov/gallery/3d/
more 3-D Mars images (too much violet...) http://www.science.widener.edu/mars3d/
the best 3-D Mars images I've found (so far) http://www.rainbowsymphony.com/mars3dgallery/index.htm
here the links of the Mars pictures with the best "3-D effect":

and the winner is... http://www.rainbowsymphony.com/mars3...ages/rocks.htm
to best view the 3-D images' effect you must wait a few seconds to help your eyes to find the right focus
non-space 3-D images made with a 3-D technique that doesn't need red-blue glasses to see the "effect" (from Cosmiclog) http://www.isnichwahr.de/redirect16975.html

I think that ALL versions of Orion (standard or TBS, small or big SM) must have its TPS firmly joined to the capsule an that a jettisoned TPS is a bad design and a (possible) big risk as explained in my new article: http://www.gaetanomarano.it/articles/022orionTPS.html
In my opinion the BEST solution is to firmly join the TPS to the Orion's main body and locate the parachutes/airbags outlets on the Orion's sidewalls.

happy to see that (now) other peoples/companies start to agree with my proposals and suggestions ...like this TeamVision plan:
http://www.teamvisioninc.com/downloads/ … 17-146.pdf
the TeamVision's plan looks very familiar to me since it has things like:
- the launch (pag.8 ) of the cargo/crew ISS/orbital-Orion ("Era-1") with ready available Atlas/Delta (that's possible since an orbital mission needs only 2-3 mT of propellent, so, the full Orion+SM+LAS may weigh less than 20 mT) ...like my (June 30, 2006) "Launch the CEV with Ariane5" article:
http://www.gaetanomarano.it/articles/010arianecev.html
- the use (pag.14) of ready available TRUE Shuttle-derived hardware to build the (Jupiter-1) Single Launch Vehicle (SLV) for "Era-2" ...like my (May 12, 2006) "Single Launch Vehicle NOW! And "On The Moon" in 2012" article:
http://www.gaetanomarano.it/articles/005_SLVnow.html
and my (May 21, 2006) "The "3+3 engines" Super SLV" article:
http://www.gaetanomarano.it/articles/006_superSLV.html
rockets that peoples/forums/blogs STILL insist to call "Direct Launcher" (august 2006)
- the "lengthened version of the Block I SM" for "lunar orbit insertion and trans-earth injection" (pag.14) ...like my (September 12, 2006) "The GIANT mistake of the Orion's SM" article:
http://www.gaetanomarano.it/articles/013orionSM.html
and my (September 18, 2006) "CorkScrew Orion or SwissKnife Orion?" article:
http://www.gaetanomarano.it/articles/014swissCEV.html
- the "Space Station/Fuel Depot (SSFD)" (pag.37) to perform many moon missions with reusable-LSAMs ...like my (June 5, 2006) "SAVE the Astronauts' LIFE with the LSS" article:
http://www.gaetanomarano.it/articles/009_LSS.html
and my (May 27, 2006) "Europe on the Moon with the ArianeX" Multiple Launches Architecture (MLA) article:
http://www.gaetanomarano.it/articles/007arianeX.html
etc.
lots of ideas that (surely... ) they have developed "internally"... (since not even NASA, Boeing, LookMart, etc. suggested them)
just a question... "do you think that also I can propose my next idea/article to the AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics) like TeamVision have done?"
