Re: WIKI: We now have a useable wiki...

Took me long enough, eh?

I'm lazy. I admit. One line of text.

But I really wanted to put a nice logo type thing for it, rather than a text link. Ahh well, I list it as one of my things to eventually do. tongue

Re: WIKI: We now have a useable wiki...

FOr some reason I am having trouble saving pages now. I tried modifying the acronym page:
I added VSE, CEV, CLV and Da Stick

; [[AU]] : Astronomical Unit.
; [[CEV]] : Crew Exploration Vehicle
; [[CLV]] : Crew Launch Vehicle
; [[Da Stick]] : Slang for the CLV proposed by Dr. Griffen for the VSE.
; [[DRM]] : Design Refrence Mission - NASA's basline plan for getting to Mars.
; [[EVA]] : Extra-Vehicular Activites - Spacewalks
; [[GEO]] : Geosyncrouns Orbit
; [[ISP]] : see Specific Impulse
; [[ISS]] : International Space Station
; [[LEO]] : Low Earth Orbit
; [[LSS]] : Life Support Systems
; [[MAV]] : Martian Assent Vehicle
; [[MCP]] : Mechanical Counter Pressure - A kind of spacesuit
; [[NEP]] : Nuclear Electric Propulsion
; [[NTR]] : Nuclear Thermal Rocket
; [[RTG]] : Radioscopic Thermal Generator
; [[SSTO]] : A Single Stage to Orbit rocket
; [[SSME]] : Space Shuttle Main Engine
; Specific anything : Means it refers to the amount of one quantity in refrence to its mass
; [[Specific Energy]] : The amount of energy stored in a quantity of matter, sometimes refered to as its Energy density, typicaly measured in MJ/kg
; [[Specific Impulse]] : The change in momentum a quantity of fuel can provide, generaly meassured in the number of secounds 1 kg of fuel can provide 1 G worth of thrust
; [[Specific Power]] : The amount of energy an continualy produce per unit of mass, measured in W/Kg or kW/kg as appropriet.  The mass of the fuel may or may not be included in the equation.  Sometimes used to refer to specific thrust.
; [[Specific Thrust]] : The amount of thrust a engine can provide per unit of mass, chemical engines do fairly well while most electric are very poor.
; [[TSTO]] : A Two Stage to Orbit rocket
; [[TMI]] : Trans-Mars Injection - the engine fire which provides the delta-V to transit from Earth to Mars.
; [[VSE]]: Vision for Space Exploration

Here is the list:

A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was:

from within function "SearchMySQL4::update". MySQL returned error "1016: Can't open file: 'searchindex.MYI' (errno: 145) (db66a.pair.com)".

Re: WIKI: We now have a useable wiki...

MySQL returned error "1016: Can't open file: 'searchindex.MYI' (errno: 145) (db66a.pair.com)".

Error Code 145 (Table has been marked as crashed and should be repaired):
The table has crashed, this can be sorted in various ways. Chose the method which suits you below:

  • 1. using the folowing query

    • REPAIR TABLE tablename;

       2. or using mysqlcheck repair for 3.23.38 and above, i.e., in shell/telnet/ssh type while mysql is running:

    • mysqlcheck -r -u mysqlusername -p databasename

       3. via myisamchk repair functions while mysql is shutdown/stopped in shell/telnet/ssh type :

    • myisamchk -r -u root -p databasename

option #3 most likely requires server and mysql root access to first stop mysql and then run myisamchk repair options.

Re: WIKI: We now have a useable wiki...

Sounds like shades of sql version issue where it is possible to read with a couple both a write of a lower version level is corupted by the higher version of the sql program. This type of problem occured with Microsofts Access database program so this is most like something simular.

Re: WIKI: We now have a useable wiki...

Guys. I'm really sorry for not getting to this sooner. I should've got to it that night I said I would, but I've been really busy and just, well, bleh. I'm so sorry, though. If it happens again (and given our host it probably will) I have a script set up to fix it in no time.

Re: WIKI: We now have a useable wiki...

For example, I noticed the educational outreach section of the New Mars Forum was a little rusty.  Perhaps we could start using that resource for our own members?  I've also been neglecting the New Mars Wiki.

Well Have been poking around and noticed that the; RFSA - Pockocmoc - Russian Federal Space Agency - Russian Federation

http://www.federalspace.ru/

http://babelfish.altavista.com/

A translator page looks like it gets about 80% to English not sure of the other languages.

While the  Russian version of the Encyclopedia Astronautica can be found here.

http://www.russianspaceweb.com/

There is also the permanent landing on the ESA site for Russian effort of cooperation.

http://www.esa.int/SPECIALS/ESA_Permane … in_Russia/

Then there is this site as well on Russian Aviation and Space Agency but it appears to be Under Construction at this time.

I want to see if I can do an IP ban of those wiki spammers.

Re: WIKI: We now have a useable wiki...

I think the news mars wiki should contain a link to every single interview or press briefing giving by Dr. Griffin. He has such wisdom an knowledge when he speaks that every time I listen I sit back in awe and think of the wanes world quote, “we're not worthy”,.

Re: WIKI: We now have a useable wiki...

I love our wiki logo (made it myself, pretty proud of that), but I think it could use some text on the left side, something to offset all of that black. Something touching, or something that could really show off what we're up to here, and in the Mars Society and Mars enthuasists in general.

Comments? Ideas?

Since I modified the software, the wiki may not work for those who have never logged in to it before (I actually think it should be okay, but we'll see).

Another note, I realize the "New Mars Wiki" link is not there anymore. I'm working on that. smile

Re: WIKI: We now have a useable wiki...

The wiki has been uploaded to the new host (on the Mars Society website). You can get to it by opening C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts in notepad, and adding the line:

206.246.118.100 www.newmars.com

Then just go to www.newmars.com/wiki and it'll be viewable (this *will* prevent you from being able to come back to the Pair.com host, so you will have to put a # symbol in front to return things the way they were.)

Firstwords is also uploaded there, and we're working on getting the rest of the stuff working, but there are some problems with DNS ownership and until we get it sorted the site will be on Pair.com.

The reason I am alerting you guys to this is so you don't use the wiki here on Pair.com anymore, at least for a few weeks until the host changes. smile
