The the thread "Political Potpourri VIII" there was a discussion concerning me, my campaign and my party. To be quite frank, it was one of the better discussions that I have seen and because of that I wanted to commend those who participated and say hi to my relative, Cindy.
I also wanted to share some of my ideals, who I am and where I stand on issues. Below is the beginning. Please feel free to ask any questions and I'll be happy to answer them.

For those of you, who may not share my faith, do not be alarmed. I am not now, nor will I ever push for a “Theocracy” in the Constitution Party of Illinois, the State of Illinois or the United States of America. DO NOT forget, that almost without exception, every one of our Founding Fathers were “deeply religious” men. It was these “deeply religious” men who brilliantly framed the Constitution of the United States. They created a constitution which also included a “Bill of Rights.” The First Amendment (The first “Bill” in our “Bill of Rights”) states that, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...” This includes your right to NOT be religious if that’s your choice. So, whether you, yourself, are religious or not, don’t be afraid to support another “deeply religious” man (just as our founding fathers WERE) who will stand up for all of our freedoms (just as our founding fathers DID). It is because of my convictions that God has created us all as equal and free men (and women), that I stand against the tyranny that threatens all of our freedoms, both within this state and our country. Join with me in this “War for Independence” against a government that wants to control every aspect of our lives.

*Oh my. Hi Randy! And just as I was about to sign off from the computer for the day, teehee; good thing I checked. Yes, I am your 4th or 5th cousin; you met my mother and aunt a few months ago at the Stufflebeam family reunion, and posed for a photo with them.
Not sure how the Mods will respond, but I -must- respond. I'm very surprised and pleased.
Randy, feel absolutely free to drop me a note privately if you like. I won't take up a lot of your time, you must certainly be a busy man (and I'm lousy as politics go anyway...). I would like to say a private "greetings!" and inquire as to how you discovered this forum and my mention of you.
Wow! This made my day.

Welcome Randall, and good luck at the polls.
Funny thing that Constituion, lots of good stuff in there if more people would take the time to read it.

Thank you, Cobra!
Sadly, you are exactly right. The fact is that most of our leaders in government have no idea what it says and even worse, what it means.
By the end of November, the Constitution Party of Illinois will begin providing Constitutional Training through one-day seminars to help our citizens to know and understand the freedoms that are being robbed from them and to know and understand what those in leadership SHOULD be doing and how they should be doing it.

*Am reading (slowly) through the site. I do recall studying the Constitution in a high school course. Basically I do expect the persons elected to (supposedly) uphold the Constitution to do just that; if the people who have the power don't apply it, there's not much Joe/Jane B. Taxpayer can do about it.
I'll be honest, I essentially distrust most (not all) politicians and the entire political process. I've been turned off. Chuck Grassley of Iowa is one of the few whom I do trust and believe he's in it for the betterment of the nation, that it's not just about Chuck.
The portion of the intro statement to your party I do agree with is George Washington's fear of factions and selfishness undermining the political process. If that's not gone to rabid porportions already, I hate to see when it does.
However, I do disagree with religious sentiments and believe in separation of church from state. I see references to "God-given rights." If rights are God-given, why doesn't everyone in the world have them? I agree with Ayn Rand's (and others') assertions that rights are what you fight for to obtain and maintain; they're not God given and they're not guaranteed.
Also, I've done some studying of the 18th century, and though some of this nation's founders were more "traditionally" religious (as we think of it today), quite a few were not. Many were Deists; they believed in "The Clockmaker God," who created everything and then withdrew (for whatever reason) and never interfered in the creation nor human affairs. He wound up the clock of the universe and then departed. So there's a difference in terminology here; Voltaire believed in God but not as Billy Graham does. I'm an agnostic, btw.
But yes, I do agree about the selfishness and factions. And I've seen enough baloney in small offices with people (otherwise "nobodies") who get a promotion, it goes to their heads, office politics abound with cronyism, backstabbing, etc., etc. I can't fathom how it goes in Washington, D.C. with people who are not only celebrities in their own right, but who also wield genuine power. ::shudder::
I'll keep reading at the web site.

Good call. I imagine there will be alot of "but what about . ." going on with people shocked by what is or isn't in there. "You mean Social Security isn't in the Constitution?" <gasp>
I do recall studying the Constitution in a high school course.
Did they leave parts out like when I was in high school? Second Amendment, that prohibition on direct capitation taxes, stuff like that they didn't seem to want to talk about much. Really explaining the concept of federalism? I certainly got the "abridged" version taught to me back then.
But I was already hopelessly beyond normal indoctrination by that point anyway.
However, I do disagree with religious sentiments and believe in separation of church from state. I see references to "God-given rights." If rights are God-given, why doesn't everyone in the world have them?
This is an interesting point that could be contorted in all sorts of ways. Perhaps we're blessed, God likes us more. Maybe all those foreigners are sinners and deserve the oppression visited upon them. Maybe God's just a sadist.
Though I'd have to go with it as a general concept arising from the deism of the Founders. "God given" as a synonym for "natural" in the sense that we naturally have them in the absence of any outside force acting against that. Man has liberty until other men take it away. Liberty is restored by forcefully taking it back, as was done here back in that little insurrection in the late 1700's that most folks have forgotten about.
Of course natural or God given rights are something of a misnomer anyway as the only real right any living thing has is the right to try to survive, but that's another discussion muddled in all sorts of philosophical debris.
It's a sad state of affairs when following the US Constitution actually constitutes a platform for a political party. Should kinda be a given it seems to me.

Well...high school is "aways back." Honestly, I don't recall. Likely it was a lot of a "skim" because I didn't retain much info.

Well put. That is so true.

::EDIT:: Read this in the "History" portion of CP homepage:
In the 2000 elections, the Constitution Party achieved presidential ballot access in 41 states and qualified write-in candidate status in 7 others. This made for a total of 48 states where people were able to cast their votes for Constitution Party candidates.
I didn't see the CP on the ballot in my State, in 2004 (New Mexico).
The Constitution Party is ... anti-free trade
Why?
We assert that any form of taxation on churches and other religious organizations is a direct and dangerous step toward state control of the church. Such intrusion is prohibited by the Constitution and must be halted.
Okay. But what about "churches should stay out of politics...or be taxed" -? I agree with that. It's got to be a 2-way street. In fact, I see more of religious leaders/institutions seeking to get control of politics than the other way around. Pat Robertson, Jesse Jackson, Jerry Falwell, etc., are always intruding into the political arena...*always.* Also, I believe in freedom of religion...and freedom from religion (which, if Mr. Robertson, Jackson and Falwell had their way, I'd be deprived of). But again, if a church entity begins making political statements, is wealthy with many congregants and seeks to throw its weight into politics, then it should be taxed. Can't have it both ways, shouldn't have it both ways.

The Constitution Party is ... anti-free trade
Cindy,
This was a erroneous quote. The Constitution Party is VERY much for free trade. They are against the "Free Trade Agreements" which is any but "FREE TRADE." It is regulated trade by international intities which do not have the United States in their best interests. In fact, if you look at what is happening through the regulation brought about by these trade agreements such as NAFTA & CAFTA, you will see that it is pretty much the rest of the world against the United States.
Further, through these agreements, they guarentee to leave our borders wide open as a portion of the regulation of CAFTA in order to produce an "equitable" free trade situation. You should read through these agreements. Pretty scary stuff actually.
These agreements and their predecessors are the reasons why farmers from the state of Illinois are buying up property in other countries (in particular in Central America) because they can not afford to farm the land here in Illinois.
The U.S. Governement has thrown off its responsiblities of governing Trade to International Enitities. It is all a part of this Globalization that Bush is pushing.
Adhering to these trade agreements instead of "Constitutionally Governoring" trade will effectively make the United States just another 3rd world country.

Dear Sir,
What are your views on the right of the individual to an equal share of the benifits and responsibilities of citizenship including the responsibility of self government?
What is your view on the right to freedom from any act that will cause you to hold government, constitution, or law in hatred and or contempt including acts of government, constitution and law?
Would you be prepared to commit to the social reforms and infrastructure rebuilding that the USA needs to even survive the next ten years?
Does your party have real policies on the colonization of Mars which will cost 20 billion per colonist per year in continuous support?
What are your policies on the prospect of a Single Space government controling what happens off world?

It sound like your taking a good position on these issue. I lean to the Larouche side of the house that is sometimes refereed to as the FDR faction of the Democratic Party. Much of what your saying fall in line with what I believe should be done too. You are right that both NAFTA and CAFTA should be done away with and the United States is in fact being transformed into a Third world Nation. You are absolutely correct about that.
I would be interested in knowing your economic policies like government controlled credit and investing in infrastructure and/or possibly a Kennedy type space program.
