I'm for one, not laughing...that was a very brave thing you just did...informing us of your humiliating experience...
I can imagine few things more frustrating at being in the company of a known writer and not being able to recall his books...and come to think of it, I can't recall that much about the "Martian Race" myself, although it's only been a few years since I've read it.
My heart nearly froze when I read about the second "oops!"...I would have just died, or at the very least, fainted on the spot had I done something like that! 
Ah, but the story you will be able to tell for decades to come..lol...

Hahahaha! What an excellent story.
Well, the 'B's' do get confused a lot by readers; there are the three 'Killer Bs' - David Brin, Greg Bear and Greg Benford, plus Ben Bova (who for some reason isn't considered a Killer B, but I'd make him an honorary member).

Hah, that's pretty funny. I have no idea who all these guys are you guys are talking about, but I know the feeling of talking to someone you consider important and saying something completely off the wall.
