*I just don't like the mixing of military stuff with space exploration. Oh, I know...I know. Has been discussed before. Military tie-ins and etc.
But when purely astronomy articles are posted at web sites alongside of the latest "missiles in Pakistan" news... :-\ Makes me worried that newbies will think astronomy buffs are also warmongers or something. Guilt by association, etc.

Hmmm. . . Helicopter mounted machine guns and a retiring Shuttle fleet. . . Against my better nature I'm getting ideas.

People dislike the militaristic side of many websites that are dedicated to the advancement of space science. But it is unfortunate that all access to space has come from military research. What are our rockets but advanced munitions designed to deliver the ultimate weapon to distant shores?.
I honestly believe that we must call the people from the Mars society, Futureists. We look towards the future some with Emotion, some with disillusion, some with calculation. But to get there we have to look at what the conditions are like now and what it takes to get what we want in the future. We also are quite patriotic in our own ways and we want our own people to be all that they can be and to protect them too.
And todays military science is tomorrows domestic advance. And only a society that is in reasonably good financial health and capable is able to go further in the advancement of space. Another reason to keep up on the military side is that a healthy military is promoting technology to keep its edge and a lot of these advances are either directly transferable or lead to reseach that benefits us the futureists and our dreams and hopes for space.
It is often been said that Scientists dislike the thought of politics and of the military and hate the idea that they are needed. Not being aware of the political trends and advances in military science troubles me. How can someone make an informed judgement if they do not have all the facts. I have arqued with someone who believed that since the Mars society webpages had political views it was not worthy of note, my reply is that scientific aloofness has yet to launch one Mars mission. Its the world we have to convince and the the people with power if we remain aloof and "scientific" unconcerned with the events that shape what happens then we will never get to Mars.

Oh you Cobra Commander you.

I understand the points you make. Of course it can't be expected "across the board." For instance, I expect that spaceflightnow.com will overlap reports/articles: Space exploration, military, astronomy.
Spaceweather.com, interestingly, does not do this -- to the best of my recollection. Strictly the science stuff.
Some web sites, sure; understandable, unavoidable.
But it is odd (and often undesirable, IMO) to see articles pertaining to Eta Carinae or the Andromeda Galaxy or the latest pulsar news (mostly astronomy) and next to it are featured the latest on WMDs. :-\
Can't have your cake and eat it too, I suppose.

P.S.: Space-exploration sites will usually have an overlap. But this isn't required/necessary, IMO, for the more purely astronomy sites. Also, another issue is catering to the UFO-nut crowd. Cartoon aliens, advertisements for Roswell...give me a break. Why make room for them? They have plenty of web sites devoted to that already.
