Re: Apropos of Nothing -3-

It's all good, though. Thanksgivings were always the bloodiest holiday in our household.

Sounds familiar.

I came, I saw, I fought to a draw. Now it's time for my traditional Thanksgiving pizza and finishing that script breakdown I've been putting off.

You people have got to stop talking about all that delicious food like that!  yikes
I'm a kilo over and trying to cut back a little - gimme a break willya. ???

Anyways, I hope all my American cousins had a great Thanksgiving. (I wonder what date the martian version will fall on?)

If everyone that goes takes a holiday/tradition from their own country, and to help the new martian community become established everyone follows all the holidays/traditions, they'll probably have a holiday a week and get nothing done - but it'll be great for parties.

Re: Apropos of Nothing -3-

*Am decorating our house today for the Solstice/Yuletide/Christmas season (my husband is a Christian).

Green and blue lights will adorn the tree, with silver and silver-blue ornamentation.  Love the green-blue-silver combination for this season; the "cool colors."  Really puts me in the holiday mood.

Lots of snowpeople have populated our living room.  I collect snowmen/women/children/--even dogs!   Love those round, carrot-nosed people.

How about favorite holiday songs?  Mine are White Christmas by Bing Crosby and Holly Jolly Christmas by Burl Ives.

Also love Ella Fitzgerald's rendition of Jingle Bells.

And geez am I tempted to make a gallon of homemade eggnog right now.  :-\  Lots of cinnamon and powdered cloves goes into mine, and I mostly use cream (though mix in some half-and-half as well).  Generally I can get 3 inches of foam on the top of the nog, after it's rested a while.  My mouth is watering...!

(That eggnog they sell in stores, prepared by commercial dairies...bah humbug!  Or:  YUCK).

I'm not a Christian but, what the hell ... any excuse for a celebration!  big_smile
We're flying my parents-in-law up from Victoria for a week. Having the usual traditional Christmas meal, Christmas tree, etc. ... in the middle of the usual sticky tropical summer!!   tongue

As for "favorite holiday songs", "Meet Me In St.Louis" is one of my all-time favourite movies and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" is, perhaps not surprisingly, my favourite Christmas song.

Home made tamale's and chili con carne. Nothing better. Sorely missed.

I hear I am going to have a nephew or niece come July. Summer babies are always the best. I'm proof.  big_smile

Re: Apropos of Nothing -3-

March 14th is my favorite holiday. I'm not too big on Christmas. Not that I'm a grinch or anything (and in fact, this year I'm spending more on gifts than I have for several Christmas' combined).

3/14 smile Pi Day. Duh.

I'll probably get married on 3/14/15, or something equally special. Probably married. I'll just get hitched with someone.

Anyway... funnily, I was looking at old posts just now, and apparently Bill White actually predicted, accurately, the outcome of the US elections! So Bill, good on ya. Got yourself a one eyed hobo?

Re: Apropos of Nothing -3-

*Whipped up a big pitcher of homemade eggnog last night.  YumYum!.  NON-alcoholic (I wouldn't want to ruin the superbly sweet and creamy taste with liquor :-\  And no, I'm not kidding.  Can't stand most liquors).

An unasked-for word of advice:  Don't drink eggnog in the morning.  I made the mistake of drinking a glass of eggnog this morning around 9:00 a.m.  Big mistake (sugar rush and resultant headache/sluggish feeling).  Yeah, I should probably know better, but damn...have been craving eggnog like mad.

Oh...and somehow forgot I'd purchased blue and green ornaments for the tree earlier in the year.  So the only silver ornaments are small snowflakes.  Looks fabulous.  Every year I think "this is THE prettiest tree I've yet put up."

And speaking of silver, forgot to mention in my other post that "Silver Bells" is also a favorite holiday song.

Am thinking of making puddin' clusters, peppermint meltaways, orange drop cookies and scotcheroos to give out as treats.  Maybe whoopie pies too (they aren't pies; they're actually two small chocolate cake-like cookies sandwiched together with a marshmallow creme filling).  smile

Oh and Josh:  Your mention of The Grinch reminded me of Cindy Lou Who.  Which is what my family called me during childhood holidays (well, my mom still does I think).

"Posts" cannot be Proudhon-esque property, anyhow. PROPERTY IS IMPOSSIBLE.

So I don't know what you're worrying about.  big_smile

Driving home I passed a little red car with a bumper sticker that said "communists make better neighbors."

Re: Apropos of Nothing -3-

Well, I suppose if all posts were in a universial persistant store where everyone had a unique identifier (say, PGP keys), posts could be property. But as it stands now you don't really own your posts. Ownership requires a wee bit of control over something, wouldn't you say? That was Proudhon's whole point. Not to take Apropos of Nothing and turn it into such a discussion. smile

It's strange though, I agree that we don't really own our posts once we've posted them, but what if we say something that could be classed as slander? If we don't own the post can we be prosecuted for it?
