Question, Why leave the weapons there at all? Ship them back out of Iraq, off the war arenas playing field. Then all you are guarding is what you will use and the others only long enough to get them out of the country.

The weapons have to stay there as the new Iraqi goverment will likely need them. Look at who they have for neighbours and wonder what they will need to defend themselves. We are training there army and eventually they will completely take over. And the weapons are not ours to dispose of they belong to the Iraqis not us.

My point was for only safe keeping, while those steps are taken. Not all is needed and can be returned as needed be in some for see able future.

Re: Another metaphor - for the "War on Terror"

These supplies and weapons where in secure dumps, as long as there was a manned security. What happened was that with the collapse of Saddam there was no longer the security and these dumps where wide open. This is not the case anymore so they are safer and will get tougher to crack as resources are put to make them more secure.

The problem is how do we get the stuff that was stolen and looted back. This is a lot harder question to answer.
