Re: Statistics

People may be interested to know the website statistics for New Mars in April.

Briefly, April has been New Mars' busiest month ever! We transferred 6.3GB of data, had 11422 unique visitors, 199994 individual pageviews, 548597 files were served, and we had 907852 hits.

New Mars continues to go from strength to strength, and I think that I'm correct in saying that these forums are the best and most popular site on the web for serious Mars discussion, thanks to all our contributors  :band:

Re: Statistics

Yeah, someone PM'd me a few weeks ago about this particular subject, well, the latter part of your comments; about this being the premier Mars site on the net. I think I noted that we might break the million hit barrier for all of April. We were close! smile

What's really striking to me is how we've went from mere megabytes to gigabytes in only a months time; ever since the rovers landed New Mars has been getting more traffic, and a lot of really good posters.

Re: Statistics

Is it just me, or do we have a lot of registered users lately? smile

I think some people spreading the word (well, Bill, as far as I know) has actually had an effect. It's really great. smile

Re: Statistics

And a lot of people online, *and* posting to boot! It's become hard to keep up to date when you're some days off-line...

Recently, i went to Wikipedia to look up Mars Society, and saw there was no link to the forums, so I added it. Little drops making an ocean... smile

That's the whole point! So that the entire community can develop the encyclopedia. In my own searches, I have seen articles so obviously professional that I would not dare to edit a comma. But there are others containing ungrammatical sentences, fractured logic, unreadable prose, etc. It was obvious that the original authors did not even do a basic edit.

I'm sure glad New Mars now has a Wikki option. It will be interesting to see how it gets used.

Wikki on!

Re: Statistics

Errr. I only added a link to the forums, not making a dedicated entry about it.

John: the Wikis are made by people like you and me... it started from scratch, and people contribute to it, with some kind of peer-review system, so if you start messing up things, other people correct it. If you keep behaving badly, you get banned as contributer etc.
Works real good, esp. because they have rules and admins, but a lot of the 'self-correcting' is done by the army of contributers, that search out typos, errors etc...
Been doing some contributions, mainly  on historical photographic processes, feels good to add to the knowledgebase!

Nor did I indicate, suggest, or imply that you did. My comment was about something that appeared regarding a New Mars Wikki that appeared when I logged onto New Mars a couple of weeks ago. There was a practice page as part of it. I don't find it now so either I forgot how to get to it or they took it off the board.

Re: Statistics

New Mars also has a wiki, for those who are new here. smile

http://www.newmars.com/cgi-bin/wiki.cgi … n/wiki.cgi

It has a little content. I was on a one man mission to fill it up with stuff, but I simply ran out of things to say! So feel free to throw things at it, it could make good use of all that energy you guys seem to have. smile

Josh,

Thanks much for posting this. The Wikki site is now safely in my bookmarks. However, it may be a little while before I get through all the preparatory material.
