Re: JibJab ("My Land")

http://www.jibjab.com]What?

*Saw bits of this and its creators on ABC Nightly News last evening.  It's a hoot.  3.7 megabytes.

They've received a request from an institute (forgot the name) to include this in a time capsule to be opened in 2104.  smile  So many hits on their web site and e-mails to them from around the globe that their servers crashed at least 3 times.

::EDIT::  I downloaded and viewed it entirely a few hours after posting this (I was working on the computer and couldn't spare the extra energy of downloading it until I'd completed my tasks).  There are a couple of profanities in it, including a rather nasty one.  Thought I'd better give a warning.

'Hey-what'd I do?' (Clinton)

What is the thing about the botox?

(Edit:)
In fact, this is how a lot of people outside the USA see the elections: 99% of mudslinging, 1% errrrr.... sad

Aah. Thanks.

The typical 'important issues,' eh? Reminds me of elections in my country. It's the same everywhere...

Re: JibJab ("My Land")

http://money.cnn.com/2004/07/26/comment … ]Copyright nonsense

this is moronic

Guthrie published the text, explicitly saying it was 'free' (as in speech) Now when he died etc. some jerk send his lawyers to aquire the copyright.
Fastforward to 2004:
"TRO believes that the Jibjab creation threatens to corrupt Guthrie's classic -- an icon of Americana -- by tying it to a political joke; upon hearing the music people would think about the yucks, not Guthrie's unifying message. The publisher wants Jibjab to stop distribution of the flash movie."

So...Lawyers whining: oooohhhh we gotta get money, they damaged the original, iconic song. Sue sue sueeeeeeeeee!

MORONS. If they actually read even the first few lines of the lyrics of the original, they'd see it was a *stab* at those land-grabbing jerks...

'Sign says 'no trespassing, but other side (of signs) says nothing... this land is for you and me'

SO LAY OFF! I hope this explodes in their faces.

America, the land of the free... or of the frivolous law-suits?
The world used to admire America, but it's going down the drain, this way...

*You got it right the 2nd time.  America is rapidly becoming "Land of the Petty, Home of the Sue-Happy."

Can't do anything without someone screaming about it and trying to stop it.  So much for "freedom" with all petty tyrants running around.

::edit::  Who the heck even thinks of Woody Guthrie's songs half the time anyway?  I hadn't thought about "My Land" for years.  JibJab revived it from obscurity -- they did the song a favor by drawing attention back to it, IMO.  And anyone with half a brain can see the humor of the JibJab skit AND still enjoy the original song.

Obviously his plastic surgeon didn't do a very good job. :hm:

My response to this was simply as follows

This land was my land... BUT NOW IT'S OUR LAND! From Kah-li-fornia to the New York- What? Wha'd I do? big_smile

Funny, funny stuff, but unfortunately none of it involved any real issues like Bush's science and foreign polices, Kerry's obscurity, etc. It was just commentary on all the issues the media brings up. Then again, in that sense it's pretty good, it just shows how ridiculous all the debates about weither Kerry deserves his purple hearts (Which he threw away anyway) that take place on CNN are. Really, who teh $&#* cares what their war records were like?

Sometimes a brain can come in quite handy...

Btw, who is Woodie Guthrie?

Re: JibJab ("My Land")

Woodie Guthrie wrote "This Land Is Your Land" whose music turns out to have come from some other folk singers entirely (and in fact, the song itself wasn't even inititally pro-patriotism, but that's another discussion).

Re: JibJab ("My Land")

I am thinking we should do a "this Mars is your mars" version. Maybe we should start a whole thread about song parodies.

Hey, I just might take you up on that.

That is, after I finally get around to creating/posting that poem I think I said I'd write about a month ago. big_smile

Perhaps some sort of Round Robin is in order? ???
