This article claims the [http://dsc.discovery.com/news/briefs/20 … comet.html]comet theory for the great Chicago fire has been around for a while yet I never heard it before, despite living in "greater Chicagoland" - - yup, Virginia, we natives do call the metro area and suburbs "Chicagoland" - - hell, if comet did start the Chicago Fire I guess maybe we do need to spend more money on space, right?

Actually, I have started reading about the Peshtigo fire, north of Green Bay, on that very same night. Quite a coincidence.
Now, I need to persuade Mayor Daley to change the exhibits at Navy Pier to say that a comet caused the Chicgao Fire and that we we can increase funding for space.

Well then, in the interest of self preservation, let's invest more in space exploration to save Chicgao.
Nice little rallying cry there.
The problem with this though, at least in terms of what most people want here, is that this rationale dosen't support putting more people in space.

Wow. Missed this topic.
If this turns out to be really convincing, it should be made bigger news, That's thousands of deaths because of asteroid/meteoroid impact.
Something similar happened recently in India, on a smaller scale.
People clamouring for an asteroid monitoring network must love this story...
