Re: Mixing Oil & Water?

*Hi everyone.

Earlier today I received the weekly e-bulletin from Sky & Telescope magazine.  A portion of it includes a run-down of aerospace and science museums/sites of interest in a particular State (mine).  Included is the Roswell UFO Museum.

Last Monday I visited a local aerospace museum near my city...entirely devoted to science, except for one book case containing titles by Whitley Streiber ("Communion") and other UFO-related material.

If people want to believe in UFOs or entertain speculation, that's certainly their right, their prerogative.  But since science buffs like myself (particularly as relates to astronomy, space exploration, etc.) are often (too darned often!) confused with UFO buffs or are repeatedly asked, "You believe in UFOs, don't you?"...I have to say it doesn't make me too happy.

Why do some science-oriented forums (whether an actual building or an e-bulletin) cater even a bit to UFO matters?

On a similar note, a week or so ago I saw a reader's comments regarding a book dealing exclusively with UFOs and the like.  She accused non-believers of being "narrow-minded skeptics"; fine, I'll call her "gullible."  She can't prove it (although apparently she believes it's been proven, absolutely proven, that UFOs are manned by intelligent beings and buzz us all the time!), I can't disprove it (in the agnostic sense)...want to start the name-calling, sister?  Okay...
tongue

I don't think fringe elements should be catered to or appeased in the scientific arena; they can do their own thing on their own time with their own resources, thank you very much.  And especially not when -they- attempt to slap the label "science" onto every little speculation they are daydreaming about (i.e. pseudoscience) in an effort to gain a bit of credibility.

Re: Mixing Oil & Water?

Good on you, Cindy. I've yet to be shown the picture of a single UFO viewed from low Earth orbit by "spy satellites able to read the license plate on your car." They cover the Earth's surface every 24 hours. So, come on, who's kidding who!

Re: Mixing Oil & Water?

I rember the phoenix lights story, i never saw them even though I was in phoenix at that time. There is always strange lights in the sky, airplanes, statlites, helicoppers, and people imangation. So why fret over some flares?
But there was a second sighting of lights over presoct that night that were not link to flares, thats hard say that it was not a ufo.

probably raped him too.

I just want to mention that here in New York, we have many many more aliens than in Arizona. They are more educated too. They don't adbuct you for sex or organ transplantation or to retrive Al Gore on the Moon, they are nice and cool people, very liberal. They support Kuccinich for the election. You can talk to them and invite them in the best french restaurant of New York. They order wine for diner and they pay the check. Really fantastic aliens, we might have 1 or 2 in this forum by the way (no it's not me ).

So you do abduct for sex and organ transplants? :;):

well, I guess, In Arizona a least, according to what said Earthfirst. For what other reason ?
I'd like to be abducted by some cute alien in Arizona for sex. In New York, as I said, aliens are more...elaborate, they steal phylosophy books, paints of Renoir and Dali, if they abduct you for sex, be careful, some are not what you think they are, if you see what I mean.

The organ transplant, I remember a show on SciFi that prove without doubt that they remove organs from adbucted humans.
