*This nice little museum and gift shop is "just down the road" from where I live, perhaps 8 miles east.

They really do have an impressive collection of photos (including autographed), memorabilia (Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, Shuttle), models, some uniforms and firesuits, interactive area for kids, outdoor models, aviation history, missile programs, mockup of a Mercury capsule, etc.

Admission is free; donations are welcomed.  I've been to the museum a handful of times -- you can take a "virtual tour" (indoor and outdoor) via the link.

I purchased a few Apollo-era images and also _Apollo 13:  The NASA Mission Reports_ which is "some of the rare official documentation of the voyage of Apollo 13...collected and made commercially available for the first time."  Includes color photos; cirriculum vitae of astronauts Lovell, Swigert, and Haise; daily menu (including items such as cream of chicken, shrimp cocktail [!], butterscotch pudding, salmon salad, peaches, orange drink [want to bet that was Tang?], bacon squares, meatballs with sauce)...I suppose they lost their appetite after the accident; extensive transcribed narrative of the events of Apollo 13 in the astronauts' own words; etc.  The book is accompanied by a bonus Windows CDROM which features NASA video documentary "Houston We've Got a Problem"; pre-explosion inflight TV broadcast ; exclusive video interview with James Lovell; video launch of Apollo 13; post-flight press conference; 198 page technical document "Separation Procedures/Alternate & Abort Missions for Apollo 13"...etc.

I purchased a few Apollo-era images and also _Apollo 13:  The NASA Mission Reports_ which is "some of the rare official documentation of the voyage of Apollo 13...collected and made commercially available for the first time."  Includes ... extensive transcribed narrative of the events of Apollo 13 in the astronauts' own words...

*Last evening I read a portion of the transcripts which, to me, was interesting.  I don't recall ever having read/heard something similar to this (immediate effect of zero g); I wonder if all astronauts experience it [still; I would presume so, but of course don't know -- maybe differences in type of mission?], or if a medication is now given prior to launches -- to ISS or via shuttle -- to ameliorate the symptoms:

Lovell:  "My feelings were as I've had previously.  When we first get subjected to zero g, I feel I'm upside down, my head is full, and blood is rushing to my head; this lasts several hours.  I think this sensation lasted approximately 6 hours.  But basically, that's the only sensation I felt in zero g.  After that, it went away."

Swigert:  "I think Fred and I felt the same fullness of the head...It was around 8 hours; we both mentioned that the fullness of the head was gone."

Haise:  "I had one other different reaction.  On the morning of the 2nd day, I woke up with a pretty severe headache...(he also states he vomited some of his breakfast)."

Yipes.
