Prototype Mathematics Index Level Forum

The Mathematics Index level would contain knowledge, insights, guidance and examples for those seeking to gain mastery of some element of mathematics in future.

I am told we have at least one credentialed mathematician in the membership.

I am imagining that a credentialed mathematician would serve as a volunteer curator for this Index level.

Any member could contribute a post to the forum, and it would be reviewed for suitability, as as is the case with papers submitted to a refereed journal.

Re: Prototype Mathematics Index Level Forum

This post is about the term "radius vector".

I asked Gemini for the name of the line between the center of the Sun and the center of the Earth (or any planet or object).

The history of the study of ellipses goes back to the Greeks, continues through Kepler when he used another term, to modern mathematicians who created the term using Latin as a source.

I needed to know the correct name for the line because in the evolution of the Business Calendar for Mars, astronomy is a major factor in design.

Planets rotate about their axis, and they move in ellipses around their parent stars.

It appears that several hundred years ago, the mathematical and scientific community agreed upon "radius vector" as a suitable term for the line of interest.

I am thinking of using the Radius Vector between our Sun and Mars as a factor in calculations.
