We have invited a prospective member to consider our forum for publication of a presentation recently given at the National Space Society chapter meeting in Houston, Texas. We have heard back from the presenter, and will report if anything happens.
For existing registered members who have lost your password ... If you remember the email address you used to register, you can request a recovery email at that address. If you no longer have the email available (as could happen over 20+ years) just write to NewMarsMember@gmail.com email address. Your request will be forwarded to SpaceNut, who has the tools available to assist as needed.

NewMars.com is back online after an unscheduled outage for extended maintenance.
The new, updated system is installed and running.
An Email Outreach campaign to former NewMars members is on hold. One member will be reviewed per day, for 3+ years.
Recordings of the 25th Anniversary Mars Society Conference are now available on YouTube.
We are happy to welcome former members back into the active community. It has been brought to my attention that a number of former members are marked as "banned". In many cases, this marking is a limitation of FluxBB, which is the forum software.
Because of the onslaught of thousands upon thousands of spammers over 20+ years, the decision was made to close off access to inactive accounts. Unfortunately, the only mechanism available is the "banning" tool. If you are an older member and you find your account has been banned, it may have been locked to prevent hacker access. You can ask SpaceNut to reactivate the account. See the procedure below. Those who were banned for inappropriate behavior may also apply. SpaceNut will then have the opportunity to evaluate your application.
SpaceNut is in the process of upgrading members from "banned" to inActive. Since there are over 1000 folks caught up in this situation due to the spammers, it is going to take SpaceNut a while to complete the upgrade.

For all ... we really ** are ** looking for members who want to make a difference by helping others with projects, or providing leadership on new projects. We have a ready supply of folks who can and will make comments and offer suggestions. We don't need more folks in that specialty. We ** do ** need folks who can and ** will ** help project leaders already trying to achieve something in the real world.

NewMarsMember@gmail.com portal is open for business.
There was/were NO incoming traffic item(s) at the Portal this morning. NO email(s) was/were sent.
The Azure VM is NOT running. It is stopped pending trouble analysis. Something is causing excessive CPU usage.
Trouble shooting is on the agenda for today. We have had no issues with this site for many months, since a swap file was installed.
The immediate action plan is to implement an IP address filter to admit only requests from NewMars.com/forums.
The main NewMars forum has been updated from 2012 to 2024 standards. It was activated live on Sunday 2024/12/01.
The first post in this forum is dated 2001-09-04. Author was John Creighton from Nova Scotia.

A test phpBB3 site is available for NewMars Admins and members to evaluate. Use http://40.75.112.55/phpBB3/index.php
Read Post #2 of this topic for procedures to apply for membership. Mention specific assistance you wish to provide.

We have 18,370 freshly refurbished User Id's ready for new members.
A quality assurance run is scheduled every 1000 posts, to find any posts not accessible upon lookup.
Current stopping point is 235000 The next scan will be run at 236000.
Current active post is 235129 - 235113 --> 16 new posts since previous report
The Daily Recap post will contain links to the posts in the list above.

For all ... we really ** are ** looking for members who want to make a difference by helping others with projects, or providing leadership on new projects. We have a ready supply of folks who can and will make comments and offer suggestions. We don't need more folks in that specialty. We ** do ** need folks who can and ** will ** help project leaders already trying to achieve something in the real world.

In order to provide image service to members, we invite members to send their IP addresses to newmarsmember@gmail.com.
A convenient way to discover your IP address is to run speed test.net. That program will report your IP address while it calculates your upload and download speeds. Your IP address will be added to the list of IP's for access to the images site.
Our longer term plan is to move the images site to the Mars Society servers. A study of that possibility is in progress.

We received an inquiry this morning. Here is my reply.
It is good to hear from you! We are definitely interested in bringing new members into the group.
We have only a few active members, and we would certainly like to have more.We have over a thousand registered members but most are inactive.

You can read all of the thousands of posts we have built up over 20 plus years. You can read all the posts by individual members using the User tab on the main menu. Membership basically just allows you to contribute to the life of the forum.***
We have one lady in the mix. She is studying ecology (I think?) in the UK. You can find her many posts under the ID "terraformer"***
For many years we enjoyed contributions by Palomar. I've read most of her posts and found them agreeable.***
I'd be interested in knowing how this forum might help you with your career goals? We offer a publishing platform, as you can see by looking at some of the posts by the gents here. The forum is visible to the world. We've recently been working on a facility to store images, so (for example) if you would like to publish a presentation you have given we can provide a place for the text and images, and then a venue for correspondence with your readers.***
I am not in a hurry to admit folks right now. I've admitted a number of gents but they are not active , and some have not contributed at all.***
You can learn a little bit about the history by reading the daily Recruiting post.***
Over recent years we have attempted to improve the usefulness of the forum by adding features such as the Index post as #2 in a topic. We recently added the Daily Recap to show what folks have been talking about.

We received the monthly report from Airloom. The company is setting concrete base fixtures for posts for the first set of posts for the track. The track itself is in fabrication. The update has been ported to NewMars in a wind energy topic.
