Airfoil research testing Artificial air flow

The report at the link below is about what appears to be some clever engineering to allow winged aircraft to lift off and land on shorter runways than normal.

As I read the report, it occurred to me that the principle described in the article might work on Mars, where air is so much less dense.

A winged aircraft on Mars would have to travel at a high rate of speed (compared to Earth) to generate lift.
