Re: Mars B4 Moon postings

For Mars_B4_Moon .... re possible new topic ...

You've become someone whose knowledge of the forum archive is greater than that of any of the other currently active members.

We appear to have need for a place in the forum structure where members can report what they think are discrepancies between information provided by one source as compared to another.

An example is the recent post by kbd512, in a topic about hydrogen fuel celled vehicles.

kbd512 appears to have found a difference between a report from 2019 and one from 2023, and it is probably worth noting.  However, the hydrogen fuel cell topic is not the best place for such a report.   By any chance, do we have a topic were reports of differences in media reporting might be presented?

If we do not, do you have a recommendation for such a topic?

Reminder ... we have a possible new home for the forum in test / evaluation .. please Register at the phpBB3 site and let us know what you think.

For Mars_B4_Moon re post in Physics topic ...

Thank you for finding and posting the report at: http://newmars.com/forums/viewtopic.php … 85#p222085

Your skepticism sure does seem justified.

On the ** other ** hand, if there ever ** is ** a discovery of aspects of the operation of the Universe we don't already know, it is likely to come from somene willing to try out new ideas.

The claim of production of thrust against Earth's gravity seems testable.

Please follow up on this report (if you have time and if the subject is of interest to you).

If no one can replicate the thrust reported, the claim will fall by the wayside, but the line of thought might have potential.

For Mars_B4_Moon in AI topic ...

Thanks for finding and posting the MIT study report at: https://newmars.com/forums/viewtopic.ph … 78#p222178

That was a **very** interesting read!

I thought the first comment by a reader was insightful ... that reader encouraged use of the tool to predict the behavior of political leaders facing challenging problems.

While the comment was probably offered in jest, it ** does ** point to the direction AI researchers may well be asked to look, by leaders of Nation States trying to ferret out the best possible path forward in complex and dangerous situations. At present, the universal "solution" is to try to enlist the smartest people on the planet (or in the Nation at least) to help with analysis. The AI tool would be just one more "advisor", but in the end, the political leader has to make a decision.

Re post on Germany dropping fission ...

Why Germany ditched nuclear before coal – and why it won’t go back
https://uk.news.yahoo.com/why-germany-d … 19542.html

Thanks for finding and posting the link to this article!

Germany is (collectively as near as I can tell) making a significant bet.

However, that bet includes fusion, although fusion was not mentioned in the article ... The decision to avoid fission places additional pressure on inventors of renewable systems (on one hand) and on fusion (other hand behind the back).

If you run across articles about how this ** really big bet** turns out, please post the links here.

Re: Mars B4 Moon postings

For Mars_B4_Moon re post on Pitcairn Island....

http://newmars.com/forums/viewtopic.php … 53#p222653

I was inspired to ask Google about the present status of the island, and found there is a web site: https:..government.pn

I'm both amazed and not surprised that there might be an Internet domain for this location.

The website is updated as of 2023.

The population is reported to be 50 people.

I would like to call this web site to the attention of NewMars members who might be curious to look at a long lived very small population in a very restricted habitat.  That is likely to be the situation on Mars, for a subset of communities.  The Million Person vision of Elon Musk is a much more realistic number for achieving self-sufficiency.

Go to the bottom of the web site, to see the links to various government related activities and reports.

National IQs: A review of their educational, cognitive, economic, political, demographic, sociological, epidemiological, geographic and climatic correlates

' negative correlations between national IQ and temperature, showing that national IQs are higher in countries with lower temperatures. These results confirm the theory that population differences in IQ evolved over tens of thousands of years in response to the cognitive demands of survival in cold winters'

The link you provided looks well worth following ... my first reaction is to note that plenty of humans have lived in northern climates without generating genius, so there may be other factors at work.  Never-the-less, your overall point that the constant threat of a nasty death on Mars will encourage intelligent decision making seems well founded.

I just noticed that the link did not copy correctly ...

Re: Mars B4 Moon postings

Is dot Pluto or dot ISS a site or dot Mond or dot Lune or not Luna or dot Moon a thing yet?

Dot Phobos or Dot Olympus dot Titan or dot Europa or dot Mars?

Some islands make a lot of money on that whole internet name thing. What could happen with Solar system wide communication beamed and emails going from the Moon to Asteroids and Mars, there will be a delay so sites might be backed up and copied. If we do have a system of communication beamed, could a small island make money from communication? A far off colony makes cash when someone builds and mirrors the first of the 'space websites' or when we enhance animal and cyborg and ET tries to phone home will someone make money? On Earth there are country codes, domains use the English Latin Alphabet to identify themselves, some like Thailand are now starting to use Internationalized country-code with their own alien and unique Old Thai Khmer script while gTLDs have to obey international regulations. The small island country is it worth having your own domain .pn for example? Belize and Bahamas look as it it is a dot business site  a French island Mayotte 'YT' can act as a mirror for you tube social media videos,  i2p provides a hidden pseudo-domain, .i2p. the crypto currency Namecoin uses the .bit pseudo-domain. A site which might historically describe what Turks did in an Armenia domain can use confused for the United States of America while Ascension confused for an accountant Island the Tuvalu confused with online tv show streaming and Laos can be confused for a city 'Los Angeles' and Anguilla an island protected by British is now in demand as Artificial Intelligence groups want their own website for new tech companies.

Pitcairn a website which can be confused for sites which have collections of telephone book 'phone numbers'?

For Mars_B4_Moon re one of Louis' topics...

http://newmars.com/forums/viewtopic.php … 62#p222762

Thanks for bringing Louis back into view, and for your links and comments!

The closing line in today's post reminds me of science fiction writers who've explored the theme of robotic replication on a remote location.

While the concept has been worked out by Nature, humans have yet to achieve anything similar to a seed.

On the ** other ** hand, cities have been created out of nothing by human effort over extended periods of time.

It seems reasonable to me to suppose the human pattern will be replicated on Mars, with or without the robotic seed.

For Mars_B4_Moon re boost to Muon topic....

Thanks for this significant contribution to help to launch the new Muon topic...

While the comparison to Cold Fusion is unfortunate, Calliban has noted that the comparison is understandable at a layman's level.

I'm hoping that as you search the Internet, you make keep the Muon topic in mind.  It seems likely to me that it's potential to accelerate development of advanced power production facilities will inspire researchers around the world to study the particle and it's interactions.

Calliban's mention of advanced compact particle accelerators is helpful.  Such devices would have many applications, just as their larger cousins do today, for medical procedures and (I'm sure) many others.

In the past week or so, you asked for an image to reflect your 9000+ posts to the forum.

I thought I had written a post to acknowledge the request, but today when I went looking I couldn't find it.

Please refresh my memory of the request.

We Admins are on the busy side trying to prepare for update of the forum software, but I wanted to keep your request on the back burner. It appears to have fallen off the back burner.  If you find the request, I will create a search term to find I more easily when time becomes available.

For Mars_B4_Moon ... re #63

Thank you for the refresh on your interesting suggestion.  I'll add a search term:

SearchTerm:Artwork requested by Mars_B4_Moon

I'd like to call your attention to the remarkable achievements of PhotonBytes, in illustration of his ideas for balloons on Mars.

My experiences with the artistic companion to ChatGPT is that it is a challenge to create a request of the drawing program that comes anywhere close to what the human requestor has in mind.  The AI drawing assistant appears to (literally) have a mind of it's own, and if the result is close to what you want it is pure luck.

That said, your request is certainly interesting, and since the future form of a deep space vessel is wide open for interpretation, it might be fun to see what the AI comes up with.

DALL-E is the name of the artistic assistant to ChatGPT ... It was available to be run as a separate program and it may still be.

As I recall, OpenAI offered a certain number of free trials per email address.

I'd like to encourage ** all ** forum members to experiment while the service is available for a free trial.

You can host any images you want to share on imgur.com (or other sites I don't know about).

For Mars_B4_Moon re link to story on alternate explanation for "dark matter" hypothesis...

I was following one of your links this evening, and now I can't find it, but it led me to an article about an alternate hypothesis to the "dark matter" theory of why there appears to be more gravitational force at work than can be explained by visible matter.

The work explores the possibility there may be regions of space that can have gravity without mass.

As the researcher explains, there is no more evidence for his theory than there is for dark matter, but at least now astronomers will have a second theory to try to find observational data to support.

I think this 'Lander' was a scam, these US Dollar numbers don't add up and it seems Art Money was Laundered? cost per spacecraft $118 million US ?? class this one alongside the British artist Damien Hirst  artwork that will travel into space on the failed British Beagle 2 lander

how much did Moon 'Art' weigh it all down???

and they sent the work of a pervert, a money launderer and a thief to the Moon

Jeff Koons, maybe if you see this guy have a gun ready and hide your kids? he seems to link to a lot of art money laundering from Chicago and Baltimore

Art downstream from 'Culture' can be a display of how good or bad a people are doing, Art as Propaganda, Art as Religion, Art as Commentary and History or as a Reflection of Society

Also it links to Terror and Deaths in France

Beagle 2's fate remained a multi-million Dollar mystery until January 2015, when it was located on the surface of Mars in a series of images from NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter HiRISE camera.

not to be out done by Visual Modern Art the 'Music' types got in on it and a 'call-sign' was composed by the band Blur, a highly over-rated and over-sold English British rock band formed in London...if you never heard of them I don't know what you would call it maybe Britpop, maybe indie type rock or pop rock, people drunk and stoned out of their minds in the 60s and 1970s played and composed better but don't worry you are not missing much, the British have made good music and good rock bands but 'Blur' is not one of those bands

Money Laundering? scientist and designer Chantelle Baier a few years ago, per Artnet’s Jo Lawson-Tancred.

National Space Society
https://nss.org/nss-chantelle-baiers-od … -the-moon/

The National Space Society extends its heartfelt congratulations to NSS Board member Chantelle Baier for the historic achievement of having a payload on the Intuitive Machines Nova-C lunar lander

Chantelle, the founder and CEO of 4SPACE, a female-owned space company, is dedicated to integrating non-traditional space entities into the industry.

4SPACE collaborated closely with Koons, SpaceX, and Intuitive Machines to design a polycarbonate container that safeguards the sculptures from the Moon’s environment.

not to be outdone by US corruption Canada had to get its name involved Macklin, Saskatchewan

'Woman Makes History by Sending Jeff Koons's Art to the Moon'
https://mymodernmet.com/4space-chantell … jeff-koons

Bolted to the side of the Intuitive Machines NOVA-C IM-1 lander set for its lunar voyage is sculpture called “Moon Phases” conceptualized and designed by artist Jeff Koons. Consisting of 125 small and unique lunar phase sculptures, each one dedicated to someone who contributed to humanity for good in some way. It’s bolted to the side of the spacecraft set to be the first sculpture on the lunar south pole. But it was a long road from concept to the launch pad.
Enter Chantelle Baier who founded 4Space in 2018 to take free thinkers, artisans, and non-traditional space companies, and help them take their talents and abilities to a higher level: above the Karman Line.
In this installment, we talk to Ms. Baier about the journey Koon’s sculpture took, how 4Space was able to help a non-traditional entity take that step into the final frontier, and what the company can do for others who want to embark on that journey. We also discuss what may be on the horizon for 4Space in the future.
https://spacetweeps.podbean.com/e/episo … of-4space/
Chantelle Baier has served on the boards of the Moon Village Association, the AIAA Technical Committee, Hewellet Packard’s Mars Home Planet Advisory Panel, Yuri’s Night Special Relations, and is a senior executive on the National Space Society’s Board of Directors where she serves at the organization’s Director and Creative Director.

I'm not sure how this got weird Art person got linked up, maybe through 'out reach' or 'enterpriseinspace'
https://archive.fo/otyNf
the NSS has reach to a number of States across the USA and far away places, NSS chapters in Australia for example. They seem to be getting more political also giving the Robert A. Heinlein Memorial Award to 'Lori Garver' for example she attempted to secure her own sponsored space flight, as "the first Soccer Mom" aboard the Russian Soyuz vehicle but was the 12th Deputy Administrator of NASA as it stayed stuck in LEO, maybe they could just give the award to someone in South Korea or India or China next time?
I wonder if Isaac Arthur is aware of these past activity? the Society was been weird in the past, it grew from the merger of the National Space Institute, founded by Wernher von Braun and the L5 Society founded in 1975 based on the concepts of Gerard K. O'Neill.
Any random Astronaut seems to be a better artist than Jeff Koons, art today is dead most of them work on Playstation Xbox video games, the real artists of today don't make it in the modern art-world which seems to be a scam, the real artist they might make a video game design or prop for a museum or tv show, Isaac Arthur is probably more of a legit artist than Jeff Koons.

and yet somehow with almost zero talent Jeff Koons has managed to steal other people's work and laundered money.

just as the traditional skills associated with music has been dying so has 'art' died

For some strange reason the lander carries the sculpture or scupltures Moon Phases by artist and pervert Jeff Koons within its payload, I wonder how much this weighed everything down or changed design and make it all crash? He is not respected as an artist and often will pay other painters or sculptors to do his work, many artists and writers dismiss his work as kitsch, crass, and based on cynical self-merchandising he married Hungarian-born naturalized-Italian pornography star Ilona Staller and in court he has been accused of money laundering and child abuse.

If you look at the money spent vs science returned results, this is  Beagle-II all over again but this time NASA got scammed instead of the British the European getting scammed.

Art has been in space I have no problem with it, an Astronaut doing a painting is great, people have done music in space they have played instruments on space stations.

but there is something strange going on here also and not adding up
I could make an art money laundering thread about art-money scammed into space featuring Damien Hirst, the Rock band 'Blur', Jeff Koons

This mission should have cost half its price and been far more successful, people can put Robots on Mars for a fraction of the cost of the Intuitive Machines, Jeff Koons, Odysseus mission

Re: Mars B4 Moon postings

Tahanson you are changing my posts and have quoted me incorrectly so if you do not quote my post correctly as you move and delete my original post you are in fact engaging in censorship now as SpaceNut did to my past posts which one time he once created a highly controversial post

You seem to have deleted my post linking to a quote of the ESA/British recommendations of the Commission when they lost Beagle-II a very similar event to the Intuitive Machines Odysseus lander failure

This was done as part of public inquiry, free speech and accountability, they published Recommendations how not to waste future tax money

To see money taken by corrupt artist Jeff Koons and then vanish to beyond the Moon or into a Blackhole I could see how this would embarrass people, Kamal Ghaffarian the Iranian-born American businessman, anger US tax payers, embarrassing for NASA etc
Kamal is out there in the public eye guy talking with economist mags, business weekly papers, Forbes telling everyone how he will make the USA 'interstellar' a space super-highway a Space-Station and traverse into our Galaxies and space cities?

'fool me once shame' on...

They at a company which will not be named are now saying they can do an 'MSR'

This post was originally created by Mars_B4_Moon in a topic about a lunar lander:

Ok let's focus on the Failed Lander

Tens upon Tens upon 10s of Millions wasted possibly laundered by an 'Artist' known to have links to crime which could have been better used on the Lander?

It appears to be primarily about personalities associated with the space movement in the United States.

it relates directly to where the Lander money has gone

Do you wish to censor and cover up the corruption here Tahanson?

The management of Beagle-II was blasted by news media for its lack of wisdom

where did they spend the Millions upon Millions upon Millions, NASA is taking US Taxes and paying out a lot to the 'Commercial Lunar Payload Services'

What is happening the Western World

In the past rocket launches were expensive, SLS is expensive for example but the cheapest part of this mission was Musk's rocket, so where is the rest of the 110+ million US gone, $ 118, 500, 000  for a lander which does not work?

Millions have been lost, do we just burn millions these days and its ok?
where is the 'inquiry report'?

Lack of an adequate management organisation with the relevant experience

These are the recommendations of the Commission for future missions which can be found in the
report; referenced to the section in which they occur.
Recommendation 1 (sec. 4.2.2.)
Future lander missions should be under the responsibility of an Agency with appropriate capability and resources to manage it. The lander/orbiter mission should be managed as an integrated whole. Nationally-funded science instruments should be included in the lander
on the same basis as on the orbiter.
Recommendation 2 (sec. 4.2.2.)
For future science payloads which are critical to overall mission success or have a very high public profile, the ESA Executive should make a formal, comprehensive assessment of all aspects of proposals including technical, management and finance, and advise SPC accordingly before acceptance. If the assessme nt is not positive, ESA should advise the SPC not to accept the proposal.
Recommendation 3 (sec. 4.3.2.)
Sponsoring Agencies of nationally-funded contributions to ESA projects should ensure that the required financing is committed at the outset to meet the estimated Cost at Completion and require that a structured development programme is established.

Re: Mars B4 Moon postings

Money for the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intuitive_Machines_Nova-C was designed by Intuitive Machines (IM) to deliver small payloads to the surface of the Moon. Withe the seed money coming from Nasa to deliver to the moon but under contract it did do that. With no money coming from outside of the US from what I can tell.

Using the opinion words from some twitter content might not be the best choice and then change or conflating to another failed craft not related also makes for off topic content. Comparing cost to another off topic would also be outside of the scope of the topic.

As an Admin part of my role is to direct Net Etiquette or NewMars forum Rules such as they are from its beginning. Now I am being off topic to give the reminder. I am sure there are more such moderation of content rules and that is why we have as many Admin's and mod's as we do.
