Lakota Indians Announce Formal Separation from the United States
http://www.clevelandleader.com/node/4214

The Native American tribe has territory spanning five midwestern states, and have said that the treaties have been repeatedly violated by the U.S. Government. In all, the Lakota tribe feels that a total of 33 treaties have been broken.

In recent years, the Lakota Indians have suffered through some rough times. Teen suicides are 150% above the U.S. average, unemployment is extremely high, and the infant mortality rate is five times higher than the U.S. average.

Oh good. So I guess that means they won't be needing those welfare checks and casinos any more, right?

Where would they like to go? There is Canada up north, they can all move there if they like.

Re: Native Lakota Indians will Withdraw from UnitedStates

The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe scored a legal victory Friday when the U.S. Interior Department withdrew a Trump administration appeal that aimed to revoke federal reservation designation for the tribe's land in Massachusetts.

The tribe, which traces its ancestry to the Native Americans that shared a fall harvest meal with the Pilgrims in 1621, gained federal recognition in 2007.
The Cape Cod-based tribe was granted more than 300 acres (1.2 square kilometers) of land in trust in 2015 by then-President Barack Obama, a move that carved out the federally protected land needed for the tribe to develop its planned $1 billion First Light casino, hotel and entertainment resort.

Many tribes have lost land and rights since 1623 to even today. Some have lost there heritage when birth certifecates said white on them as did NH....

Follow the money - not the sentiment... Sound like the Lakota are fully plugged into the Mighty Dollar system.

States with the biggest Native American populations
52 states of slides

#51. New Hampshire

- Native American population: 1,727
- Proportion of state's population: 0.1% (#51 highest among all states)

The American Indians in modern-day New Hampshire have links to two groups who lived in the region when European settlers arrived: the Abenaki and Western Pennacook. Both groups were nearly gone by the mid-1700s, having died or been enslaved, displaced, or married into non-native families. They left well-known New Hampshire names like Merrimack, Nashua, and Winnipesaukee.

Cherokee Nation wants federal law fix on Black tribal citizens

One of the nation's largest Indigenous tribes is seeking to change a 140-year-old federal law that governs criminal jurisdiction of tribal citizens on reservations based on "blood quantum."

Why it matters: The move by the Cherokee Nation comes as the Oklahoma tribe is welcoming the descendants of formerly enslaved Black people once owned by tribal members as citizens.

Re: Native Lakota Indians will Withdraw from UnitedStates

Russell Means a Lakota activist died 5 years after this thread was posted, he was controversial but respected by some. Means was in movies and conspiracy radio shows, he appeared as a character in the adventure video game, Means criticized NeoCon Republicans, a critic of Obama receiving the Peace Prize, and also when Al Gore and Henry Kissinger received their Nobel Peace Prize.  News media said Means was as well-known a Native American as Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse. I remember him saying warnings that current US Culture would go extinct, people would be forced into smaller communities with gates, they would move onto their own politically made Indian Reservation as new waves of immigration arrived but alien to current US customs, history and culture.

His movie credits

he was also involved with the US Libertarian Party
