Russia to station tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus

the Russians say this is not spreading Nuclear weapons, a guy from Russia will still have the weapons under his control?
maybe Joe Biden Kamala Harris admin get an F - minus on Nuclear Proliferation
let's not only single out Democrat because on the watch of George Bush and Richard Bruce Cheney or 'Dick' Cheney the country of North Korea got its hands on Nuclear Weapons.
maybe Pandora's box was opened once they were used as weapons, maybe it also at times helps nations not get invaded and be more secure. I feel even back in the Cold War 1949–1950 it was still more simple, only two powers had weapons, the USA the West and the Soviet Eurasia Russia USSR region. After the fall of the USSR Ukraine gave up nuclear weapons, the World had one less Nuclear State.
after the Soviets the British were next, Great Britain testing in Australia
then came the French
next China
India
Pakistan
There is conspiracy talk Israel has such weapons and a 'Vela incident'
the double flash of light which people use to also accuse South Africa, later we read Six Nuclear Weapons were assembled in South Africa.
North Korea a dictatorship got nervous after 911 with the 'War on Terror' it has conducted six nuclear tests the first under watch of George Bush junior Admin, a who served as the 43rd president of the United States.
However when the masses get nervous they can turn on the tv and listen to talkshows Bill Maher, Neil deGrasse Tyson and panel discussion which included Michael Smerconish, they can tell you how 'Radiation' from Nukes are Fake! You only need worry about the bang, it makes a big shockwave boom boom boom noise you know?

Tyson explains how nuclear weapons no longer have a “radiation problem.”

Nuclear Proliferation, by definition is the spread of nuclear weapons, nuclear weapons technology, or fissile material to countries that do not already possess them. Four countries besides the five recognized Nuclear Weapons States have acquired, or are presumed to have acquired, nuclear weapons: India, Pakistan, North Korea, and Israel. Germany probably could have a bomb built by the end of the week but it will not and Japan is a peaceful country no longer invoved in its pas imperialism, however with its civil nuclear infrastructure and experience, has a stockpile of separated plutonium that could be fabricated into weapons relatively quickly. https://web.archive.org/web/20120303130 … challenges. North Korea, Israel, Pakistan, India, None of these four is a party to the NPT, although North Korea acceded to the NPT in 1985, then withdrew in 2003 and conducted its first nuclear test in 2006. In 2003, the IAEA reported that Iran had been in breach of its obligations to comply with provisions of its safeguard agreement. Iran has recently removed nuclear watchdog's cameras after political criticism.

Belarusian constitutional referendum held in Belarus on the month of February 2022

Exiled opposition leader Tsikhanouskaya and other opposition figures called on Belarusians to use the vote to protest the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. United States, Canada and several countries in the European Union, refused to recognize the results, condemned violations at the Referendum and noted there was no space for democracy and free voting in Belarus under Lukashenko's regime and his massive crackdown on opposition.

"Tyson explains how nuclear weapons no longer have a “radiation problem.”
Tyson said, "modern nukes don't have the radiation problem.... They're a different kind of weapon than Hiroshima and Nagasaki."
Not sure what he means by 'different kind of weapon'. There are many different bombs. And their effects will depend on how that are used. Whilst there are some multi-megatonne hydrogen bombs in nuclear arsenals, most bombs are boosted fission devices, with yields between several tens to a few hundred KT. In boosted fission, a small fusion charge produces extra neutrons which increases the proportion of uranium or plutonium atoms that fission. They are anywhere from 2-20x the total energy yield of the Hiroshima bomb and are generally more compact.
As bomb yield scales up, the lethal radius for heat and blast effects increases more rapidly than the primary radiation lethal radius. For these weapons, if you are close enough to be effected by gamma rays, the heat and ultraviolet from the fire ball will burn you to a crisp, or the blast wave will crush whatever building you are in on top of you. So from that point of view, Tyson is correct. But it isn't particularly reassuring. Modern bombs have 2-5x the blast radius of the Hiroshima bomb.
The second radiation effect is fallout. Fallout tends to be a problem if the weapon explodes on the ground. If that happens, huge amounts of material are vaporised and blown into the atmosphere as dust and debris. This contains material that is irradiated and activated by neutrons and the dust grains are nucleation points on which fission products condense. The material is blown in the wind and falls out tens to hundreds of miles downrange from the detonation point. The fallout dust and debris contains isotopes with short half lives, typical between minutes and days. This makes fallout extremely dangerous, because the half lives are so short, small amounts of this material can deliver lethal background gamma doses if you are exposed to it within 24 hours or so of an attack. This is why preppers make fallout shelters. If you are inside the fallout lethal zone, you need to retreat underground or be within a thick walled structure to escape the lethal background gamma doses as those nasty short lived isotopes decay. The problem is you need to be in a shelter before the attack happens. If fallout dust gets on your skin, the beta radiation will result in burns that resist healing and have high risk of killing you with an infection. All round nasty stuff.
Most modern bombs over urban targets tends to explode as air bursts. This reduces radioactive contamination, but it increases the lethal zone for heat and blast. The Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs were air bursts. Although fallout is largely eliminated, the bomb will kill more people because the lethal heat and blast radii will be greater. So not very reassuring.
A nuclear exchange with hundreds or even thousands of detonations, will release enough fission products to substantially increase global background radiation levels. Outside of any immediate fallout zones, this is unlikely to be sufficient to cause a substantial drop in human life expectancy. What would result in massive secondary casualties is the destruction of infrastructure needed to keep people alive. Food production is a complex web of infrastructure, delivering inputs to farms, harvesting, transporting and processing food into stuff we can eat, in places we can access it. A nuclear war would destroy infrastructure on a scale that would up end food production globally. Most of those that survived the attack would end up dying, not from radiation, but from the lack of things like food and fresh water, that kept them alive as long as the system kept working.

Calliban,
He means he doesn't understand or know very much about nuclear weapons, but he doesn't have the education to "know what he doesn't know", to paraphrase something he said about "knowing enough to think you're right, but not enough to discount the possibility of being wrong". Everyone's knowledge has its limits. I know very little about biology, for example, because it doesn't interest me. Maybe he means that the blast shockwave and burns will kill most people long before radiation ever could. That's mostly true, but to claim there will be no radiation from nuclear fallout is false. All nuclear weapons I'm aware of use fission. Fissioning Plutonium or Uranium generates nuclear radiation / fallout (Alpha and Beta particles, gamma rays, and neutrons).

Belarus's Lukashenko says there can be 'nuclear weapons for everyone'
https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/be … 023-05-29/
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said that if any other country wanted to join a Russia-Belarus union there could be "Nuclear weapons for everyone".
Russia moved ahead last week with a plan to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, in the Kremlin's first deployment of such warheads outside Russia since the 1991 fall of the Soviet Union, spurring concerns in the West.
"If someone is worried ... it is very simple: join in the Union State of Belarus and Russia. That's all: there will be nuclear weapons for everyone."
