So long as it keeps proving its worth without any updates or repairs, I think the Astronomy community and Nasa will continue to limp on with the way it is until its splash down in pieces.

For Mars_B4_Moon ...
Thanks for the link you found about current Hubble research.
This topic was set up to attempt to find and promote a long term servicing solution.
At present, there is no (known by us for sure) capability to service the Hubble, and it ** will ** need service.
The proposal of this topic was (and is) to launch a maintenance vehicle to stand off from Hubble until needed. it would contain crew quarters as well as specialized tools needed for maintenance.
Crews would visit as needed, but the service facility would remain in place.

Mars_B4_Moon re #84...
First, thanks for you many posts about Hubble, and for choosing this topic as a site for many of them.
Second, this topic ** is ** about setting up a permanent space servicing facility to fly near Hubble so that visiting service people can arrive in a capsule and find everything they need in the permanent facility.
That facility is still a gleam in the eye of NewMars members. Please report any signs you may run across that the facility is going to happen.
