Re: ISS - Beware the Bear

The fact that Russia and China have been escalating war efforts is that it is slowing peaceful exploration of space.

Re: ISS - Beware the Bear

The ISS is not owned by one Space Group and Not owned by one single nation, it is an interntional agreemnet and shared responsibility, the owners of the Space Station - the United States, Russia, the European Partner, Japan and Canada - are legally responsible for the module and science and life support elements they provide.

Quote from article

"We may be looking at the collapse of the Russian Federation as it is over the next four or five years.

"We were not prepared for the collapse of the Soviet Union [in 1991]. We need to be prepared for this possibility."

Explaining why Russia could break up, he said: "The military has been exposed, the massive amounts of corruption I think are going to become increasingly intolerable for Russian citizens.

Sergei Krikalev is best known as the last Soviet citizen Sergei Krikalev he is a Russian cosmonaut. He ranks third for the amount of time in space: a total of 803 days, but he is best known as the last soviet citizen, departing from the USSR and watched the USSR collapse below him, he pieced together what happened while Russian political leadership tried to be quiet about what happened.

Krikalev flew on STS-60, the first joint U.S./Russian Space Shuttle Mission in 1994, he retired from spaceflight in 2007 and was working as vice president of Corporation Energia.

A character based on Krikalev features in the 2017 Cuban film drama Sergio and Sergei, in which a professor and amateur radio enthusiast in Havana contacts a cosmonaut named Sergei aboard the Mir space station. The film draws parallels between economic hardships in Cuba at the time and the fall of the Soviet Union, which occurred as the real-life Krikalev was aboard Mir.

Re: ISS - Beware the Bear

A country led by a man worse and more wicked than Peter the Great and Catherine the Great but some say he's not the worst in history, maybe not as bad as a Tyrant Madman like Ivan the Terrible...but time is early yet.

Ivan IV Vasilyevich, the Russian throne was left to his unfit middle son, Feodor, a weak-minded figure. Feodor died childless in 1598, which ushered in the Time of Troubles.

Re: ISS - Beware the Bear

Russia's war on Ukraine has caused lasting damage to international spaceflight cooperation

https://www.space.com/russia-war-ukrain … ooperation

"The biggest impact is likely to be on the next human spaceflight missions after ISS comes to an end," says Weeden. "The Russians have created a lot of ill-will not only in their actions in Ukraine but also by their actions in many of the multilateral fora (like the UN) over the last 9 years."
