There was/were no incoming traffic item(s) at the Portal this morning. No outgoing message(s) was/were sent.
With this post and going forward, we (Admins) will offer a new policy for use of our Zoom account. Instead of offering a fixed weekly Zoom opportunity, we invite members to request Zoom meetings. The time and participants can be worked out to suit everyone. This is another opportunity for us to thank Executive Director James Burk for providing this professional account, and for helping us through the learning curve.
Our newest member is "BeerMan". Admins will be trying to improve the flow of Registration. If there are others thinking of applying for membership, please send an email. At the moment, we have decided to create a temporary password and send it to the new member candidate, so we eliminate the uncertainty of the automated email process. We have confirmed the new member can choose a password using the non-email password change feature.
The forum is open to application by persons who may be interested in the Interstate 80 Pacific Ocean pipeline.
This forum is open to application by persons who may be interested in manufacture of synthetic fuel using solar power in Texas.
This forum is open to application by persons who may be interested in manufacture of synthetic fuel using nuclear power not in Texas.
Please note that membership in the Mars Society is proposed for admission. The Mars Society bears the cost of the computer services and related services that support the NewMars forum.
I am looking for new members who are blessed with enough time and energy to participate for some time into the future.
Such folk must be ** out there ** !! We'd be glad to have you!
We are also happy to welcome former members back into the active community. It has been brought to my attention that a number of former members are marked as "banned". In many cases, this marking is a limitation of FluxBB, which is the forum software.
Because of the onslaught of thousands upon thousands of spammers over 20+ years, the decision was made to close off access to inactive accounts. Unfortunately, the only mechanism available is the "banning" tool. If you are an older member and you find your account has been banned, it may have been locked to prevent hacker access. You can ask SpaceNut to reactivate the account. See the procedure below. Those who were banned for inappropriate behavior may also apply. SpaceNut will then have the opportunity to evaluate your application.
GW Johnson has extended an invitation to readers of his ExRocketman blog, to visit NewMars. If anyone is interested in opening an account, just drop a note to the portal.
GW Johnson gave a presentation to the North Houston NSS on April 9th. This was a follow up to the Large Ship presentation given by RobertDyck on March 12th. Both presentations are available for viewing from northhoustonspace.org.

There are nearly 8 billion people on Earth these days, and several billion have access to the Internet. This forum is accessible to ** every ** Earth citizen with Internet access. We have 11,199 freshly refurbished User Id's ready for new members, and Id's through 18,344 are waiting for finishing touches. We have run out of Usernames that may be eligible for upgrade for use by "real" members. We are halfway through a campaign to repair posts that contain artifacts that prevent proper display. Scan of 77,000 posts out of 77,000 were completed and the end point was found. Procedures to revise posts containing unneeded text are in place. Code to perform updates is finished and tested.
Approval to proceed IS granted, the project will resume in December, 2021.
Equipment to be used for the update series was tested and found ready to begin work on December 1st. The process will last through July of 2022 and well into August. Current date in repair is 2005/03. These posts have been updated : 1-71700 <= resume on 30
A quality assurance run is underway, to find any posts missed during the first pass. Current verified post is: 71700 <= resume on 30
We have multiple initiatives underway that can use assistance, or you can create your own initiative.
The author of a concept for a 17 person expedition to Mars has specifically requested participation by peers to help.
A proposal for an 8 member expedition is in review.
RobertDyck could use assistance of all kinds in development of the Large Ship proposal. There are three animation/drawing systems in play.
Fusion 360 is a version of commercial software by AutoDesk that is available for student non-commercial use. It requires a beefy computer.
Blender is a free animation package that includes drawing capability.
The Large Ship project may stimulate spinoff activities, such as a 3D Virtual Experience. Volunteers are needed. See Recruiting for details.
Large Ship has split into two versions. The original is a single rotating passenger vessel. The competitor is a counter rotating design.
Large Ship has also spawned a new topic dedicated to design and construction of an on-Earth Analog facility for living human beings.
Large Ship has also spawned a new topic dedicated to engineering design and construction on Earth of a flight ready prototype.
Large Ship has also spawned a topic dedicated to design and deployment of a Gravity Remediation facility for space travelers.
The My Hacienda topic is in need of 7,800 individuals to populate a virtual community to simulate self-sustainability on Mars
The subject of abundant energy supply for the population of Earth (and Mars in due time) is under discussion in the Nuclear Power is Safe topic. It seems reasonable (to me at least) to suppose all fossil fuel power stations can be replaced with modular nuclear fission packages quite rapidly if the people of Earth decide that is a good idea. It appears the leadership of China thinks that is a good idea for their nation.
A book was recommended for discussion: Beyond Oil and Gas: The Methanol Economy by Olah, Goeppert and Prakash
Abundant energy from modular fission reactors is continuing to receive attention.
A book was recommended for discussion: "Plentiful Energy" (about fission reactors).

For all ... we really ** are ** looking for members who want to make a difference by helping others with projects, or providing leadership on new projects. We have a ready supply of folks who can and will make comments and offer suggestions. We don't need more folks in that specialty. We ** do ** need folks who can and ** will ** help project leaders already trying to achieve something in the real world.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

Below is proposed text to be emailed to former members. Current members are invited to comment. A few days remain before the campaign begins.
I am trying to reach out again for you; a past Member of NewMars a Mars Society Forum.
Like many others we make aspirational statements and claims for what we would like to see and how we can be part of that. Yet our resources are not up to the task at this point. All space groups suffer from the same problem. I guess what I'm trying to say is that we are trying to build here an organization you can believe in. An organization that will (eventually) reache all of its goals.

These posts have been updated : 1-72900
A quality assurance run is underway, to find any posts missed during the first pass. Current verified post is: 72900
We have multiple initiatives underway that can use assistance, or you can create your own initiative.

For existing registered members who have lost your password ... If you remember the email address you used to register, you can request a recovery email at that address. If you no longer have the email available (as could happen over 20+ years) just write to this email address. Your request will be forwarded to SpaceNut, who has the tools available to assist as needed.
For all ... we really ** are ** looking for members who want to make a difference by helping others with projects, or providing leadership on new projects. We have a ready supply of folks who can and will make comments and offer suggestions. We don't need more folks in that specialty. We ** do ** need folks who can and ** will ** help project leaders already trying to achieve something in the real world.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

Side note to SpaceNut ....
I check in with Dr. Dartnell's Knowledge Forum at least once a week, and often take note of the incessant spammer traffic.
Dr. Dartnell never admits anyone these days, but he allows the spammers to apply, which is entertaining. In today's most recent applicant report, I found a rare legitimate (sounding) business ...
The advertiser claims to be offering moving services in Huntsville, Alabama. I have a soft spot for Huntsville, having visited there as a tourist. My memories of the trip have faded, as they are overlaid by videos of Huntsville attractions and events.
However, I decided to write to the advertiser, to encourage (?them?) to consider helping folks to move to Mars. At the very least my message should give the recipient a moment of surprise, before (?they?) go back to recycling pallets and other down-to-earth activities to earn an honest living.

These posts have been updated : 1-73800 - redoing runs
A quality assurance run is underway, to find any posts missed during the first pass. Current verified post is: 73800 - redoing runs

For Admins ...
Work is progressing on the Email Outreach initiative
Today, SpaceNut delivered a file of names to be contacted.
Yesterday, SpaceNut delivered a revised version of the outreach email text.
We still have time for comments, suggestions or other advice from all Admins.
I expect the first email will go out later this week at the rate of (about) 10 usernames per day.

NewMarsMember * gmail.com portal is open for business.
There was/were one incoming traffic item(s) at the Portal this morning. One outgoing message(s) was/were sent.
The incoming item was a set of names for the Email Outreach campaign planned for NewMars forum.

The next Zoom meeting(s) is to be determined by members. We will be using a Professional Mars Society account.
Suggested time for early (European) meeting: 19:00 UTC <<== No host is booked. If you would like to see this meeting in action, say so.
Time for project meeting: To be determined as needed Any member may request a Zoom by posting in the Zoom topic.
The first Zoom meeting for NewMars members was held Monday November 8th, 2021 at 1 AM UTC. It lasted for well over 4 hours.

Recruiting High Value members for NewMars.com/forums, in association with the Mars Society

NewMarsMember * gmail.com portal is open for business.
There was/were no incoming traffic item(s) at the Portal this morning. No outgoing message(s) was/were sent.
The incoming item was a set of names for the Email Outreach campaign planned for NewMars forum.

Current date in repair is 2005/06. These posts have been updated : 1-75600
A quality assurance run is underway, to find any posts missed during the first pass. Current verified post is: 75600
We have multiple initiatives underway that can use assistance, or you can create your own initiative.

SpaceNut will then have the opportunity to evaluate your application.

Current date in repair is 2005/07. These posts have been updated : 1-76800 (goal 78000)
A quality assurance run is underway, to find any posts missed during the first pass. Current verified post is: 76800
We have multiple initiatives underway that can use assistance, or you can create your own initiative.

NewMarsMember * gmail.com portal is open for business.
There was/were no incoming traffic item(s) at the Portal this morning. No outgoing message(s) was/were sent.
Planning for an Email Outreach to former NewMars members is underway. The automation is ready, and the text is ready.
Until we receive a request, we offer Zoom opportunities Sunday evenings.
Large Ship has split into three versions. The original is a single rotating passenger vessel.

For all ... we really ** are ** looking for members who want to make a difference by helping others with projects, or providing leadership on new projects. We have a ready supply of folks who can and will make comments and offer suggestions. We don't need more folks in that specialty. We ** do ** need folks who can and ** will ** help project leaders already trying to achieve something in the real world.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
