Dutch Rebellion in Netherlands, what if the Farmers of Mars Protest?

Looks like the Farmers of Holland are angry, maybe Unfair Wages, More Taxes, more Regulations or Unfair Prices by the Large Retail Corporation?

All red dots are farmers protesting in the Netherlands.

In future Space Colony perhaps the farmers will also protest.

Mars_B4_Moon,

Have the Dutch Police ever thought about what the end result will be if they kill their farmers and truckers and fishermen?

Something is very wrong with the world right now.  We're going backwards, not forwards, and it won't end well for any of us.

If the leadership of their colonies do what the Dutch politicians are doing, sabotaging vital life support (they're shutting farms and banning fertiliser I believe) I would hope they'd do more than protest. That would be cause for the Admiralty Board to step in and remove the leadership, taking over until such a time as non-morons can be found to replace them. Pols on Terra have the advantage that the air is breathable, so their screwups can go unnoticed for years.

Re: Dutch Rebellion in Netherlands, what if the Farmers of Mars Protest?

We appear to be facing some sort of cascade failure.  A large number of related problems are hitting humanity simultaneously.

A decline in energy production, especially fossil fuels.
Soaring fuel prices due to a growing scarcity.
A decline in food production.
A reduction in availability of all inputs to the food production process.
Collapsing industrial production in China.
Declining availability of many commodities.
Soaring inflation in the price of everything.
Declining working age populations worldwide, as boomers retire on mass.
Tighter investment capital markets, also due to mass retirement.
Huge debt bubbles that begin to look unmanageable as interest rates rise.

Individually, these problems might be manageable.  But staring down all of them simultaneously, I cannot see a way past this that doesn't ehd up with a human population that is both smaller and poorer.  Advanced world populations are shrinking at an alarming rate.  We are witnessing an outright collapse of the Russ and Han ethnicities.  Many other nations may have disappeared before the end of this century due to demographic collapse.  In the short term, countries in South Asia, Africa and the Middle East face mass death through lack of food.

I used to be confident that we could find technological solutions to the world's problems.  I no longer believe that we can.  These problems are simply too overwhelming in scale and they are all arriving simultaneously.  What we are witnessing is more than just the end of globalisation.  It is the unwinding of the industrial revolution.  The western world may survive with something like first world living standards.  Everywhere else looks well and truly screwed.  East Asia is in line for population crash and a return to agrarian living.  South Asia, outright starvation.  Middle East - war and starvation.  China - demographic decline leading to population collapse and a return Maoist oppression.  European states will probably go back to carving out empires in order to keep supply lines open.  The world we are heading into looks grubby to say the least.

Re: Dutch Rebellion in Netherlands, what if the Farmers of Mars Protest?

Calliban,

Yes, it's starting to look like a cascade of systemic failures, a bunch of bad policies that are all coming to a head at roughly the same time.  COVID was the straw that broke the camel's back.  The last time this happened we had The Great Depression, followed by WWII.  While history doesn't precisely repeat itself, it certainly rhymes.  I've seen this movie before.  I already know how it ends.  To save everyone else the time that would otherwise be wasted by watching it...  Basically, it sucked.
