We have 11,199 freshly refurbished User Id's ready for new members, and Id's through 18,344 are waiting for finishing touches. We have run out of Usernames that may be eligible for upgrade for use by "real" members. We are halfway through a campaign to repair posts that contain artifacts that prevent proper display. Scan of 77,000 posts out of 77,000 were completed and the end point was found. Procedures to revise posts containing unneeded text are in place. Code to perform updates is finished and tested. It is waiting for final approval.
Approval to proceed IS granted, the project will resume in December, 2021.
Equipment to be used for the update series was tested and found ready to begin work on December 1st. The process will last through July of 2022 and well into August. Posts 1-33000 have been updated. Current date in repair is 2004/03
A quality assurance run is underway, to scan to find any posts missed during the first pass. Current verified/certified post is: 33000
We have multiple initiatives underway that can use assistance, or you can create your own initiative.
The author of a concept for a 17 person expedition to Mars has specifically requested participation by peers to help.

RobertDyck could use assistance of all kinds in development of the Large Ship proposal. There are three animation/drawing systems in play.
Fusion 360 is a version of commercial software by AutoDesk that is available for student non-commercial use. It requires a beefy computer.
Blender is a free animation package that includes drawing capability.
The Large Ship project may stimulate spinoff activities, such as a 3D Virtual Experience. Volunteers are needed. See Recruiting for details.
Large Ship has split into two versions. The original is a single rotating passenger vessel. The competitor is a counter rotating design.
Large Ship has also spawned a new topic dedicated to design and construction of an on-Earth Analog facility for living human beings.
Large Ship has also spawned a new topic dedicated to engineering design and construction on Earth of a flight ready prototype.
Large Ship has also spawned a topic dedicated to design and deployment of a Gravity Remediation facility for space travelers.
The My Hacienda topic is in need of 7,800 individuals to populate a virtual community to simulate self-sustainability on Mars
The subject of abundant energy supply for the population of Earth (and Mars in due time) is under discussion in the Nuclear Power is Safe topic. It seems reasonable (to me at least) to suppose all fossil fuel power stations can be replaced with modular nuclear fission packages quite rapidly if the people of Earth decide that is a good idea. It appears the leadership of China thinks that is a good idea for their nation.
A book was recommended for discussion: Beyond Oil and Gas: The Methanol Economy by Olah, Goeppert and Prakash
Abundant energy from modular fission reactors is continuing to receive attention.
A book was recommended for discussion: "Plentiful Energy" (about fission reactors).

Approval to proceed IS granted, the project will resume in December, 2021.
Equipment to be used for the update series was tested and found ready to begin work on December 1st. The process will last through July of 2022 and well into August. Current date in repair is 2004/04. Posts have been updated : 1-34500.

Blender is a free animation package that includes drawing capability.

Large Ship has split into two versions. The original is a single rotating passenger vessel. The competitor is a counter rotating design.

We are also happy to welcome former members back into the active community. It has been brought to my attention that a number of former members are marked as "banned". In many cases, this marking is a limitation of FluxBB, which is the forum software.
Because of the onslaught of thousands upon thousands of spammers over 20+ years, the decision was made to close off access to inactive accounts. Unfortunately, the only mechanism available is the "banning" tool. If you are an older member and you find your account has been banned, it may have been locked to prevent hacker access. You can ask SpaceNut to reactivate the account. See the procedure below. Those who were banned for inappropriate behavior may also apply. SpaceNut will then have the opportunity to evaluate your application.
GW Johnson has extended an invitation to readers of his ExRocketman blog, to visit NewMars. If anyone is interested in opening an account, just drop a note to the portal.
GW Johnson is scheduled to deliver a presentation to the North Houston NSS on April 9th. This is a follow up to the Large Ship presentation given by RobertDyck on March 12th. Dr. Johnson will cover propulsion and navigation of Large Ship. Dr. Johnson is intending to drive to Houston to give the presentation in person. This is an opportunity for Mars Society members who live in or near Houston to meet GW Johnson.

There are nearly 8 billion people on Earth these days, and several billion have access to the Internet. This forum is accessible to ** every ** Earth citizen with Internet access.
Approval to proceed IS granted, the project will resume in December, 2021.
Equipment to be used for the update series was tested and found ready to begin work on December 1st. The process will last through July of 2022 and well into August. Current date in repair is 2004/04. Posts have been updated : 1-36000
A quality assurance run is underway, to scan to find any posts missed during the first pass. Current verified/certified post is: 36000
We have multiple initiatives underway that can use assistance, or you can create your own initiative.
The author of a concept for a 17 person expedition to Mars has specifically requested participation by peers to help.
A proposal for an 8 member expedition is in review.

For all ... we really ** are ** looking for members who want to make a difference by helping others with projects, or providing leadership on new projects. We have a ready supply of folks who can and will make comments and offer suggestions. We don't need more folks in that specialty. We ** do ** need folks who can and ** will ** help project leaders already trying to achieve something in the real world.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

I am looking for new members who are blessed with enough time and energy to participate for some time into the future.
We are also happy to welcome former members back into the active community. It has been brought to my attention that a number of former members are marked as "banned". In many cases, this marking is a limitation of FluxBB, which is the forum software.

Something is wrong today (Sunday, about noon central). It fails to log me out. I'll have to go and let it time out, although I do not trust it to do that.

For GW Johnson ... your log out was completed as of 13:13 local time, which (I think) is 12:13 your time.
Thanks for reporting this unusual situation.
I expect that SpaceNut will find your report and make a mental note, in case the problem reoccurs.
One possibility is that your request was honored, but the system might have lost track of your Internet connection.
One way that you (or anyone) can test to see what's going on with the login is to go to the top level (Index) and look at the list of logged in members at the bottom.
If the system thinks you are still logged in, then your login ID should show up in the list.
If the ID is NOT present in the list, then your logout succeeded, but FluxBB failed to get the word back to you.
***
Thinking about the matter further ... Actually, since you were able to post this report in Recruiting, obviously your logout request was NOT honored.

Approval to proceed IS granted, the project will resume in December, 2021.
Equipment to be used for the update series was tested and found ready to begin work on December 1st. The process will last through July of 2022 and well into August. Current date in repair is 2004/04. Posts have been updated : 1-37200
A quality assurance run is underway, to scan to find any posts missed during the first pass. Current verified/certified post is: 37200
We have multiple initiatives underway that can use assistance, or you can create your own initiative.
The author of a concept for a 17 person expedition to Mars has specifically requested participation by peers to help.
A proposal for an 8 member expedition is in review.

For all ... we really ** are ** looking for members who want to make a difference by helping others with projects, or providing leadership on new projects. We have a ready supply of folks who can and will make comments and offer suggestions. We don't need more folks in that specialty. Looking forward to hearing from you!

NewMarsMember * gmail.com portal is open for business.
There was/were no incoming traffic item(s) at the Portal this morning. No outgoing message(s) was/were sent.
I am looking for new members who are blessed with enough time and energy to participate for some time into the future.
We are also happy to welcome former members back into the active community. It has been brought to my attention that a number of former members are marked as "banned". In many cases, this marking is a limitation of FluxBB, which is the forum software.

For all ... we really ** are ** looking for members who want to make a difference by helping others with projects, or providing leadership on new projects. We have a ready supply of folks who can and will make comments and offer suggestions. We don't need more folks in that specialty. We ** do ** need folks who can and ** will ** help project leaders already trying to achieve something in the real world.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

Approval to proceed IS granted, the project will resume in December, 2021.
Equipment to be used for the update series was tested and found ready to begin work on December 1st. The process will last through July of 2022 and well into August. Current date in repair is 2004/05. Posts have been updated : 1-38700
A quality assurance run is underway, to scan to find any posts missed during the first pass. Current verified/certified post is: 38700
We have multiple initiatives underway that can use assistance, or you can create your own initiative.
The author of a concept for a 17 person expedition to Mars has specifically requested participation by peers to help.
A proposal for an 8 member expedition is in review.
