Just wait until they target Musks and see what he does next.. Space will always be a place to wage war antics in.
Then again we could start launch stuff that is heavily armored plated to take a blast and still keep on ticking.

Re: Trump Proposes U.S. ‘Space Force’ to Guard the Galaxy

Wasn't sure where best to post this.  It concerns the outcome of a major nuclear war.
https://www.nextbigfuture.com/2021/12/173941.html

It turns out that an all out nuclear exchange using existing arsenals would not come close to ending mankind.  Background radiation levels for most of the planet will increase, though not enough to noticeably increase individual risk of cancer.  Of course that would be the case for many people in the vicinity of a detonation, assuming that they aren't killed by the heat and x-rays from the fireball, or crushed to death by the blast wave.

Such a war would however inflict massive damage on the countries involved.  Whilst a country like the US would not be destroyed entirely, I think we can confidently predict that a major nuclear exchange would at least halve its population.  And the biggest killer would be starvation and disease in the aftermath.  With so much of the country's infrastructure destroyed, it will be difficult to produce and distribute sufficient food and keep supply chains running.

I bring this up, because antagonism between the US, Russia and China is growing daily.  A nuclear war is something that is no longer unthinkable and it is certainly a plausible outcome.  If it happens, it will take the US, Europe, Russia and China, at least a century to recover.  Mars colonisation would be set back at least that long.

continued funding on a CR means no new projects or purchases and that puts the breaks on getting there own eyes in the sky which will be very much needed.

Seems funny that we seem to not be able to find the topics for posting to...

The Space Force wants to launch a ‘Highway Patrol’ between Earth and the Moon

https://taskandpurpose.com/news/space-f … ay-patrol/

To keep a closer eye on the burgeoning lane of space traffic, America’s newest military branch wants to start a Cislunar Highway Patrol System, or CHPS, for short, just like the California Highway Patrol.

There’s a great deal of money to be made on the moon and the space between. Lunar ice can be used to make water, oxygen and rocket fuel, which can fuel missions deeper into space, the Center for Strategic & International Studies noted in a 2020 report. The moon also hosts large deposits of Helium 3, which can transform energy production on Earth by enabling nuclear fusion and making fossil fuels obsolete. NASA has also detected rare-Earth elements that can be used to make electronics and other products.

“Right now the space-based economy encompasses about $350 billion per year worth of work,” said David Spencer, associate professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Purdue University, in a recent video. “But over the next 30 years, forecasts say that the space-based economy is going to grow to about $3 trillion per year.”

The Moon market beckons, but the challenge is getting there. Part of what makes going to the Moon so difficult is that the Moon has its own gravitational pull, which can easily screw with the flight of spacecraft between the Moon and Earth.

Haha called it. The first uniformed service that operates manned spacecraft is going to be the space equivalent of the coast guard, not air force or navy, because that's what is actually needed in the plausible near and mid futures. Primarily to keep traffic in line, secondarily for rescue missions (an atmospheric capable NTR vessel could execute quite large orbital changes to reach stranded spaceships).

Yes control of the high ground is a must as everyone under it is at the mercy of being bombed out of existence....if you have no idea that its coming....

Re: Trump Proposes U.S. ‘Space Force’ to Guard the Galaxy

Report to Congress on Hypersonic Weapons

https://www.spacewar.com/reports/Report … s_999.html

The United States has actively pursued the development of hypersonic weapons-maneuvering weapons that fly at speeds of at least Mach 5-as a part of its conventional prompt global strike program since the early 2000s. In recent years, the United States has focused such efforts on developing hypersonic glide vehicles, which are launched from a rocket before gliding to a target, and hypersonic cruise missiles, which are powered by high-speed, air-breathing engines during flight.

As former Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and former Commander of U.S. Strategic Command General John Hyten has stated, these weapons could enable "responsive, long-range, strike options against distant, defended, and/or time-critical threats [such as road-mobile missiles] when other forces are unavailable, denied access, or not preferred." Critics, on the other hand, contend that hypersonic weapons lack defined mission requirements, contribute little to U.S. military capability, and are unnecessary for deterrence.

Funding for hypersonic weapons has been relatively restrained in the past; however, both the Pentagon and Congress have shown a growing interest in pursuing the development and near-term deployment of hypersonic systems. This is due, in part, to the advances in these technologies in Russia and China, both of which have a number of hypersonic weapons programs and have likely fielded operational hypersonic glide vehicles-potentially armed with nuclear warheads.

Well maybe more partner nations should also do the same to support the high ground  control so that all nations might use space for peaceful intent.
