The article at the link above includes a mention that the UAE is building (or planning to build) a city in the desert that would be a model for a city on Mars.

Tanegashima, a Japanese island in the north Pacific ocean, a Mitsubishi H-IIA booster will send the probe on its path to mars.

The satellite will study the connections between Mars' lower and upper atmosphere and examine what causes the loss of hydrogen and oxygen into space. It'll collect data for two years after achieving its orbit around Mars in February 2021. There's an option to extend the mission to 2025.

Rather than start a new topic for UAE, I'll post this report on their more ambitious deep space probe here ...

These folks appear to be ** serious ** about space exploration ...

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — The United Arab Emirates on Tuesday announced plans to send a probe to land on an asteroid between Mars and Jupiter to collect data on the origins of the universe, the latest project in the oil-rich federation's ambitious space program.5 days ago

It occurs to me that there might be some small potential the Nation would be interested in the Lander Engineering Probes idea, if they knew about it.  They can certainly afford the $300 MM(US) that would be involved.
