Subj: [marssocietynewsletter] Correction to Earlier Memo
Date: 6/23/03 4:27:24 PM Central Daylight Time
From: marssoc@yahoo.com (marssoc)
To: marssocietynewsletter@yahoogroups.comMuch to my shame, it has been pointed out that I misidentified the Extremophiles, who will appear at the conference, as the Exterminators. I have no excuse except to say that I have presented an extreme example of bad typing of late. The Extremophiles are fantastic folks, great musicians, and dedicated Mars advocates and do not have anything to do with extermination as far as I know. Please accept my apologies.
[. . . Housekeeping matters deleted. . . ]
Thanks for your support,
Maggie Zubrin
Executive Director
I saw this very soon after I saw a note that Chris McKay would be speaking about plans to "back out" our human presence on Mars if Marsian life forms were discovered.
Since some argue that the presence of Marsian life may well be a roadblock to human settlement, Maggie's error (Exterminators rather than Extremophiles) is laden with potential meaning, all surely unintended of course.
