We're on Facebook!

At the request of Dr. Zubrin, there is now a Facebook group for the forums.  If you are so inclined, you can join here:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/234914216687185/

But of course the forums will still be as they always have been.

Re: We're on Facebook!

Well, Dr. Zubrin asked and he's the bossman around these parts.  It's certainly not hurting anyone to have it there if it takes off.

Re: We're on Facebook!

I did join, but actually I prefer this forum. An internet forum can organize discussions by topic, and keep everything permanently. With facebook, there's only one stream and everything gets deleted after a few days. Facebook is great for promoting things, but not good for serious discussions. But Dr. Zubrin is the bossman. I did click the request to join.

Re: We're on Facebook!

As I said, I'd expect conversation to continue as usual.  I see the Facebook page as a good way to attract people to the fora because of its increased visibility.  Add your friends!

Facebook was originally a dating website.

Re: We're on Facebook!

I wouldn't take the movie The Social Network too seriously.  But what's interesting is that those in their early teens have stopped caring.  My younger cousin has Twitter,  instagram, pinterest, YouTube, and tumblr accounts but no Facebook.

Re: We're on Facebook!

Well, I use Twitter more for discussions, and keeping up with what the latest probes have found, or how close we were to Armageddon a few days ago when an asteroid a few hundred metres in diameter passed by us at 10% the Terra-Luna distance... it's not really a social networking site so much as a means to talk to interesting people, such as Vinay Gupta, Cory Doctorow, Karl Schroeder, Phil Plait, Cathal Garvey...

I have a YouTube/Google+ account, but don't really use it. The others, I do not have. I might get an account on a pseudonymous social network site though. Or just make my own.

Re: We're on Facebook!

Twitter is good too, of course, but would require more regular updating to keep going.  We do have a Newmars twitter, but it's never really used; I believe Spacenut started it?

Re: We're on Facebook!

Us older types have a hard time with the ever-shifting social media stuff.  Shoot,  I have a hard enough time using a laptop and keeping up with email.  Y'all should be quite proud of me:  I have a website and a blog site,  too.  (Can't figure out how to update the website,  though.)  My wife uses Facebook,  but I have not got a clue how to do that.  No smart phone,  no Twitter,  none of that stuff.   I'm not yet dead,  and don't plan on dying for several years yet.  And I'm more typical of my age bracket than most younger folks want to admit.  So,  there's several of us old codgers still trying to contribute.  I'll be on the forums,  I think.  Most of us older types will,  I'd bet.

Re: We're on Facebook!

Yeah, the forum will always be around and will always be the primary place where we talk about this stuff.  The facebook page is additional and more for lighter conversation.
