Negative Income Tax (Continued)

I just like to conclude with this, were not a bunch of Nazis, NBC distorts and lies about the Tea Party, for one thing its not an actual Political Party, there are no card carrying members of the Tea Party because there are no cards to carry. The basic point is I have my own definition of what the Tea Party is, and I'm not going to let NBC define it for me. National Socialists aren't welcome, they have their own party, ours is defined by the principles of our Founding fathers, not Hitler!

Well you read my statement, I was defending the Tea Party from mischaracterization. I know what I believe, and I'm not going to let MS-NBC mischaracterize the Tea Party. I know what it stands for, been to many Tea Party events, none of the people there that I met would I characterize as "extreme right wing", which I associate with the likes of Hitler.

Terraformer, seeing as we are not the forum we once were I'm willing to give it a trial run and see if the politics rule is no longer necessary.

The fact that this thread began with the implication that most Americans are Nazis is not promising.

Seriously Tom, I might disagree with you but people would be a lot more likely to listen to your point of view of you were less bombastic and more engaging.  Logical argument beats emotional mudslinging any day.

Re: Negative Income Tax (Continued)

But, the principles of the founding fathers include a belief in the taxation of alcohol, yes most certainly not tea. I can see their point, being an avid tea drinker myself who doesn't drink alcohol, but is state taxation of drink really what the tea party stand for?

Re: Negative Income Tax (Continued)

Some people call the Nazi Party "Right Wing" and other people call the Tea Party "Right Wing", there is an association there.  Some people move to the left of the Tea Party and just because they don't agree with them on somethings like Abortion and Same Sex Marriage, they call tea party people "right wing" because they don't modify their view points in the same direction they have. I've been around for a while, long enough to watch a whole bunch of people jump on the same sex bandwagon and label everyone who doesn't follow them "right wing". The same argument could be applied to people who don't follow the crowd and jump off the cliff. I don't follow the political trends du jour, I stick with my own opinions and have a reason for keeping them. I don't change my mind just because everyone else is doing it, I need a stronger reason than that. Now in another country 60 years ago it was fashionable to join the Nazi Party and to hate Jews, if you weren't one yourself, so everyone back then jumped on that bandwagon and called people who didn't "left wing subversives". I think the bandwagon could go either way, I guess that is the point I'm trying to make. I remember recently a lot of people jumping on the Affordable Care Act saying it was the best thing since sliced bread, turned out it caused a lot of people to lose their health insurance, now people say we're causing global warming, I'm not so sure whether to believe them. You can poll scientists all you want, but scientists have political agendas too. In my opinion the mainstream media has proven unreliable, so I take everything they say with a grain of salt. If I see an article about a space mission, I have to ask myself, do they have an agenda or are they just reporting the news. if they are just trying to sell newspapers rather than try to change the world, and report on what's happening, then I'm more likely to believe them. I am interested in the truth, not just what is popular.

I think the Mars Society might have an agenda too, I tend to think Mars might be harder to terraform than they are saying, that doesn't mean I'm against terraforming the planet, I just think it might be harder than just warming it up, adding CFCs or spreading black dust on the polar ice caps. The planets are the way they are for a good reason, they are massive things and do not change easily, I expect a lot of hard work in changing them, just a gut feeling I have you can say.
