RepLab and industrial seeds

By the time we get to setting up a permanent base on another planetary body, we might already have a complete open source industrial seed to send along with them - http://blog.opensourceecology.org/2009/ … e-fab-lab/

This is very exciting stuff. Now, the current stuff may not look like much (though the Compressed Earth Block press might be useful in at least building sheltered, unpressurised areas for keeping things like rovers, if not for building habitats), but if they can make it work - and I strongly suspect they will - then this will allow the nascent colonies to be a lot more independent from Terra than they otherwise could be. They might only have to import a few low mass high value components, such as electronic chips to solder on to their circuit boards. A tonne of such chips should do them for the foreseeable future...
